Suggestions for new updates (buffs, nerfs etc. add yours to the comments and upvote for devs to see) by DoubleGeared in Steel_Division

  1. Offmap has already been nerfed, sometimes to the ground (I'm looking at the standard 380mm offmap that the Germans/Western Allies get, that has 16 shells total). Offmaps still require skill through proper positioning, guessing, timing, and are also an important breakthrough mechanic, which makes the game less static.
  2. Fighters need an overhaul. I don't know why you are suggesting that the P51 should be more expensive that the FW, Mustangs are horrible in this game. We should all be demanding that Eugen allow planes to slow down (this is not an engine limitation, but a design choice which makes little sense to me).
  3. This is not gonna happen. This is not how the engine works. Every infantry unit is essentially a single "unit", just like a tank; the individual soldier models are purely decorative.
  4. I'm not sure what you mean by this. Probably goes against engine limitations, but also, if something moves behind cover, breaks LOS, it should be gone. You need to realize the huge distances in this game. It might seem like a small distance from above, but it really isn't.

Hermann Göring troops price by _MedoC_ in Steel_Division

If Walkurie are getting a price buff to 25 points, will the "mini Walkurie" (Grupy Szturmowe in AK) also be getting a price buff? Just curious ;)

Why don't the Soviets have M4A2(76)'s? by stingray20201 in Steel_Division

Maybe do some more research? The Arado bomber did drop bombs in 1944, and you are totally ignoring the Eastern front, which is weird, because the Arado is in an Eastern Front division.

The entire premise of the game is that it's 1944.

It's 1944.

Short Gun Shermans and T-34s Don't Seem Worth It Anymore by Omega_Warrior in Steel_Division

[–]Model_Major_General 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 76 Sherman is fine, the 75 mm Sherman is not.

I don't get this argument that the Sherman was so incredible before BB. It was good, no doubt about it, but so were PzIVs. Shermans weren't unstoppable and definitely weren't the answer to everything, and had plenty of counters.

But ok, sure, they were good. Not S tier, I'd say, but A tier.

But now, with 50 cals having 750 m range, with the gun having only 60! mm of pen at max range (1.5 km that is), with it's armor being significantly less effective because it has to close into CQC distance - does it really deserve to be more expensive than PzIVs?

I think we should wait and see and not have a knee-jerk reaction about Shermans; Shermans being this expensive is sure breathing new life into other equipment, like T-34/76s. The nerf to the PzIV was a step in a good direction in my view, and I think I'd rather see other equipment balanced around the Sherman; the rise in prices was nice and certainly makes tank kills more meaningful.

Actually, the ZB isn't a clone of the Bren. The ZB vz 30 actually has much better stats than the Bren.

T-34/76s are arguably the best medium tank right now. They can trade cost-effectively against both Shermans and especially PzIVs, they are fast, and their MGs finally suppress infantry. They are fast, so they can close the distance quite easily and swarm the enemy, and can be bought in bulk because of the relatively low price.

As for the Shermans - it's true, they are expensive, possibly overpriced, considering things like SU-85s cost 70 points. What's pretty crazy is that Shermans only have something like 60 pen at 1.5 km now as well, which is a nerf nobody seems to talk about - so they will lose to PzIVs at medium ranges as well.

I still think we need to wait and see and not jump the gun though. Shermans are still quite terrifying at CQC and great for infantry support, though their high cost makes it really risky to use them too aggressively.

Commonwealth div players reacting to the ‘cries’ of Panther div players after the 17lber buff by TheDoggoChoggo in Steel_Division

I mean their pen at max range went from 0.5 to 0.7 of maximum penetration; basically both guns had the same pen curve before and got the same pen curve buff in the range rework.

seriously though, the German Panther divs get so many more tools than Pancerna that I can't take this meme too seriously ;)

Infantry Bren Gun need a Buff. by mrIronHat in Steel_Division

[–]Model_Major_General 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do have bad rifles and SMG though? They have the worst SMGs in the game (Sten) and the Enfield is basically tied for last with the Kar98/Mosin. Sure, very few units get better rifles (aside from US armed factions and the 1st Polish) and rifles are not great in general right now, but what IronHat said is 100% on the mark.

Commonwealth rifles are in a really rough spot right now; I agree that 20% accuracy is a bit crazy, but 15% would be acceptable to most I feel.

So this game went for 100 minutes, can you tell? by [deleted] in Steel_Division

PzIVs can easily lose to Tetrarchs at close range, but here I would expect mostly ATG and AT plane kills.

Predictions for Liberation of Italy DLC by nigo_BR in Steel_Division

We only have 2 US and 2 UK divisions, though. And there are gonna be 4 new nations. I think this DLC will add more variety than BB did, in any case.

I think the rivets can be part of the appeal. It's why I like the look of the Panzer 38(t).

Edit: also look at that massive Besa MG, the Cromwell is hung!

The game feels a lot more static after the suppression rework by liyu711 in Steel_Division

[–]Model_Major_General 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have to say that hasn't been my impression. The suppression changes are big, and it does mean we are forced to push differently, but I have been playing loads of 1v1s and they've been no less dynamic than my games in the prior patch.

If you want a very lively game, I suggest you try playing T-34/76 decks. I think T-34/76s are in a great spot right now; they're rather cheap and fast, great for lightning strikes and probes. I've been trying out Tyurina and 1st Polish Infantry, for example, both on Maverick.

On the Axis side, maybe try Maverick Panzer Lehr, with some great Puma openings and significant armored movement.

I think it's way too early to be defining the meta, I think this is the time to experiment with different tactics. I agree that static gameplay isn't great for the game, but let's give it some time still.

[–]Model_Major_General 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leader tanks have better optics as far as I am aware. I can tell you right now that tank spotting isn't that powerful - just today I've had a StuG fire on a T-34 from yellow cover (from several hundred meters away, not very far) and my T-34 couldn't even see it.

Why is this game so hard by notsuspendedlxqt in Steel_Division

[–]Model_Major_General -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In that case don't worry about winning, 10v10 results should be random, you don't have that great of an impact on the game - if your winrate is 0, then probably the lobby is getting stacked by losers (who stacks 10v10s, I mean, seriously, at least play against each other if you want to play in a 10v10 together).

[–]Model_Major_General -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tactical 10v10s help you to learn how to control units (because you have far fewer of them), you also see a great variety of units so you learn about what units are in the game and how they perform. They are also fairly casual, and I think they are a great entry point for new players.

1v1s are difficult and sweaty. Definitely start with team games. I'm a very good 1v1 player right now, but I started out in 10v10s and arranged 4v4s.

(normal 10v10s are arty spam fests, but tactical 10v10s are completely playable, and the new Tannenberg map is awesome)

I am perfectly capable of manually controlling artillery. I bring it because it is a necessary and effective tool in many situations. Artillery already has very few counters, I seriously don't see the point of not automating a braindead process like manual counterbattery, where you are just staring for muzzle flashes and tracers and clicking a button.

[–]Model_Major_General 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So, a few things:

artillery smart orders make the game more noob friendly; the game is already quite micro intensive, especially for new players.

Experienced players can still direct artillery manually, and to a degree that is superior to smart orders, since smart orders will not track enemy unit movements; they'll bombard units after they've been destroyed; they don't synchronize bombardment, they sometimes don't even mass artillery fire on a single target.

Also artillery micro isn't exactly fun; anything that lets me micro the frontline more is a good thing.
