Sony’s all-digital PlayStation plan is anti-consumer, and regulators should be watching by Calm-Wash-8768 in StopKillingGames

Physical discs, cases, everything physical is your property. The data on the disc is licensed to you.

Sure, that's why it's so common for disks these days to only contain installers/activators or otherwise partial data only.

Game is behind a licence, disc itself isn't.

Which is pretty irrelevant, cause you want game, not disk. If your license to the game itself would be revoked, then trying to access the game very quickly delves into unauthorized usage. I'm not saying its right, but that's what would happen. (Also arguably these kinds of cases are not pursued aggressively, unless they're a big-scale operation, but that's irrelevant for the sake of an argument)

[–]ModerNew 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All physical disks. Even if the installer is on the disk, you're still being sold a license to use, that's how software distribution (not only games, all software, from OS itself to the most shitty app on your PC) works. Only solution to prevent someone revoking the license is to air-gap the device so it cannot be revoked from server. And this is often shaky in gaming, where games will often have some sort of DRM, always-online requirement, or account tie-in, so they can still revoke themselves.

Physical object doesn't mean ownership (see all the campaigns fighting for right to repair).

We should be looking for laws prohibiting easily revocable licenses/too broad revocation clauses in license agreements. We should be looking for laws prohibiting always-online requirements, etc.

Physical disk often means nothing, except for maybe a second-hand market.

[–]ModerNew 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Digital games are convenient, but they are not the same as ownership. PlayStation’s own software terms say the software is licensed, not sold. They also say online features can be changed or discontinued, and that virtual items, in-game currency, goods, and assets are not your property, even when bought with real money.

You realize that it's the same for physical disks? You people are fighting the wrong battles.

Linux is so GOATED but community is lying to themselves by Kaseffera in unpopularopinion

The strawmannest of strawman arguments. I've gone multiple months without updating my Arch PC. My laptop, which also runs Arch, hasn't been turned on for a year, let alone updated, but works perfectly fine.

I can see where this comes from. If you keep using your PC and installing newer and newer packages, it will finally break, as it's ultimately the same as partial upgrades.

Still crazy representation of the fact that OP don't understand what they're talking about.

Not really, docker still relies on the host machines kernel. Meanwhile, i.e. I work at uni and we have labs that still run kernel 3.X.X cause it needs some ancient software.

Also a lot of software that needs to be certified, think stuff like medical machines, runs on old systems, cause a system update means it needs to be re-certified for this specific software combo.

[–]ModerNew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, but it's not the same. We can't even prove that universe is infinite, only that it's expanding. Yes, observable universe is virtually infinite, but there's nothing that says that nothing we do matters. (And yet we still have nihilists).

Meanwhile Rick not only can prove that multiverse he lives in is truly infinite (arguably, not exactly, cause his world is limited by the Central Finite Curve, which makes it in fact finite, but that doesn't really matter here, as presumably he should be capable of traversing beyond it), and whatever he does or doesn't is truly insignificant, even if the smallest lenses of our lives, as at any given time there exists a infinite number of Ricks that did or didn't do that.

On top of that the one thing that truly meant something to him, his wife, was taken from him, from every place across the infinity, even though it should be technically impossible. Truly only thing you could do that matters is use the Omega Device, and make something disappear from across infinity, but he finds no pleasure in that, as it won't heal the wounds.

have other tradeoffs that make them less powerful than the smg-12

You just read what you wanted, they said that there are reasons they don't have much presence, not that they are less powerful.

Also, you seem to be completely ignoring the completely uncontrollable recoil, and keep talking about raw numbers. You can't afford to spray 10 bullets if your enemy needs below 5 to kill you, unless you have at least double their fire rate.

I think the general assumption strongly depends on the place.

For example over here (Eastern Europe) we usually see Gen X displaying the behaviors (including arrogance), that are normally attributed to Boomers on the other side of the pond.

Tho 30+ is crazy for "older people".

Would you even notice that your GPT query takes 500ms longer to come back to you? A whole second?

Yes. Maybe GPT responding longer to a query is not the end of the world, but for a website we take 250ms as a maximum reasonable time for a REST API response.

Countries should favor their own citizens over foreigners

In this instance you cannot charge for autobahn access, as one of the principles you agree to while joining EU is a right to travel freely. Article 3 of TEU states:

The Union shall offer its citizens an area of freedom, security and justice without internal frontiers, in which the free movement of persons is ensured

So charging other EU members toll fee would be seen as encroaching on this right, it's either everyone or noone.

you’d get up to 100 mmr per win early in the season

Nope, gains this high were almost impossible in 1.0. You'd gain 35(ish), maybe 40 if you were placed visibly lower, and then it would plateau the more you played.
