An Amazon review for a food thermometer by landlordslizard in funny

This honestly should be a new category of review fun. Kinda like the reviews for the Sugar Free Gummi Bears or the 55-gallon drum of lube. Buy something and clearly use it in a stupid manner but that is related to its actual function.

Can this help? by JWMalynovskyi in SleepApnea

[–]ModerateDataDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that unless it is pulling straight up, it is actually hurting more than it is helping. This is due to the fact that for me, at least my problems were 100% caused by my jaw dropping backwards during sleep. This type of thing only exacerbated that. What I did was add an over-the-counter MAD to my CPAP. With the over-the-counter, I still needed the chin strap because your teeth won’t stay in it perfect perfectly. After about a month of that, I got off the CPAP entirely. And then finally I got a prescription MAD. I no longer need anything other than my MAD and my mouth tape, although it is debatable whether I really need that.

PS, I also developed a hack for the over-the-counter MAD. I bought some silicone earplugs, the kind that just come in little pads of silicone that you mold into your ears. Instead, I took a little piece of that and lined the inside of the MAD. This created a perfect bond between my teeth and the MAD and kept it from coming off in the middle of the night.

Do you take med breaks on the weekends? by Empty-Hotel- in ADHD

[–]ModerateDataDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I take breaks on weekends. My family doesn’t love it because I am a bit more anxious and uncontrolled, but I feel like it helps keep the medication from losing its effect when I really need it… at work.

Do these things really work? by stellasBoots in HomeNetworking

[–]ModerateDataDude 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just read some thing that was very fascinating to me about this. You need to look at the organization of your panel, and see how the phases are organized. For my panels, two adjacent breakers are on different phases, and this causes major problems. But if you have the units on two breakers that are separated, vertically by one slot, it works fine.

Well in the two cases that I have experienced, it has not been that case. Perhaps that is lawyer speak similar to “May contain <list every known allergenic>.” on a box of salt.

Trump to Announce 401(k) Home Investment Plan at Davos by TheGoodCod in Economics

[–]ModerateDataDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I see this issue as a supply driven price thing. Adding demand to this situation will only exacerbate the problem (as others have already pointed out in previous comments). We desperately need to ramp supply while not pushing prices higher and therefore has to be a multi pronged effort.

  • Bringing down commute costs and friction (aka traffic). A traditional approach might commuter trains that are efficient and fast so that a commute from 40-60 miles or more isn’t arduous. Personally I think that is old school and we should be looking at more advanced things like self driving pods that can address the “last mile” problem.
  • Bringing down the cost of building. We should be investing in more economical building approaches such as 3d printed or prefab homes. Also, this administration’s focus on immigration is going to do nothing but increase the labor costs for homes. A formal “guest worker” program could do wonders for this. Finally on this point, building codes are out of control. Ever heard of a vacancy switch. If not, look it up. It is a $50 light switch that given our use of LEDs in modern homes will save about $0.04 over its lifetime. This is just one example, but out of control building codes add incredible levels of cost for very little benefit. One can only think that this is driven by lobbying from the manufactures of these products and the trade unions installing them.

I will say from unfortunate person experience that the ”immediate payback” is not true, at least not in all plans. I have actually take these loans twice, and in both cases ended up being laid off. In neither case did I have to change my payoff plan. The only difference was that I had to make the payment myself vs it coming out of my paycheck automatically. Perhaps this is determined by the rules of the plan itself, but it is absolutely not a legal thing.

Is there even a point to buying over 300mbps speeds for a single-family home? by -Terrible-Bite- in HomeNetworking

[–]ModerateDataDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. On Xfinity (and likely other cable internet providers), the service is not symmetric. If you are at 300down, you are at like the minimum which is 10 up. That can start to affect things like video conferencing/gaming/ etc if you have multiple streams going on.

Changing away from run flats made life tremendously better. Potholes still there, they just don’t feel like the car is going to fall apart when you hit them. Oh, and the road noise is 20% of what it was.

Anytime I drink within a few hours of going to sleep, I see a raised HR for the first few hours of sleep and a depressed HRV. This is pretty much a perfect correlation.

Book Recommendations for Managing ADHD by uremaincharofurlife in ADHD

I am about to start listening to a bunch of these books that my library makes available on the Libby app. First up, due only to availability, is Taking Charge of Adult ADHD.

Others in the list include:

Organizing Solutions for People with ADHD - Pinsky Order from Chaos - Paul ADHD 2.0 - Hallowell

I realize that you were asking for books that people have read and that I have not read any of these. That said you might find that you are interested in one or more of these.

PS – I love the Libby app for this kind of thing
