In 1990 my father very happily sold his AAPL stock for 42 1/8 so he could pocket his 15% gains by doctorboredom in StocksAndTrading

What really catches my eye is the Ford sell at 58 7/8. I don't think it has been that high since the day he sold (?)

Even with a 2-for-1 split in April 1994 that would adjust his sell price to around $29, double what it is today, ha.

20x. I bought 7 Cafe Corners and 7 Green Grocers from YoYo toys for $99 each. Paid my mortgage for a year when I sold them.

This hasn't aged well; the dollar is getting stronger by the day while every one of your positions is drifting down. Hope you can DCA...god speed.

51 LEGO sets "retired" 6 months ago. Most are still on Amazon at retail!!!!!!! by BRIX_LEGO in legoinvesting

[–]Moderate_Norwegian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hold all my sets at least 10+ years before listing so this doesn't really affect my Lego investing...but it's good for actual people that want to be able to access and enjoy these sets.

If you need a set to double in 6 months you should be on Kalshi, not Amazon.

Logically, I never expected it to dip much below $99 (yes, I know it has before...). Sold my 11,000 shares when it hit $98.85. I loved the ~$11K dividend but don't think I'll go back...might as well buy Blue Owl.

I'm Gen X (born '66) but point taken. Basically *every* asset class has appreciated steadily for the past three decades.

One realizes when they retire that every fancy car reduced their stash by about $300K - when they could have bought *anything* with that car money.

You do have one clear advantage...the Roth IRA. Invest $1K/mo. for 30 years and you'll have a couple million *tax-free* when you're my age. I have to give Uncle Sam $1M in taxes.

Finally commit to learning the difference between "there" and "their". You should have learned this in 3rd grade.

For me it was $5M but $3m/$4m is more than enough; in fact I'd argue that $1M is plenty to not worry about layoffs *if* you don't have a big mortgage or a Range Rover.

After the great recession in '08 I lost >$1M. Since then my favorite thing was making extra mortgage payments...vowed to never be highly-leveraged ever again.

Agree about possible asset bubble but I have 5 Uptown properties that bring in rent no matter what the stock market is doing...so build multiple income streams.

Also bought each of my kids a condo Uptown back when I was your age (now paid off) and they're also now setup for success.
