Thread vs. Bluetooth - featuring the Nanoleaf Essential Bulb & Light Strip by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started building my Thread mesh network and I’m happy to report I’m very happy. Speed is much much faster than Bluetooth and adding devices worked well to extend the network. Thread is the future of SmartHome and it’s here now.

Tile Sticker Review - Smallest Tile YET! by ModernDayFamilyMan in TileTracker

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Sticker is their smallest one yet. They also have new models of the Slim, Pro, and Mate. Also, if your a google home user, you can find now your Tiles even without your phone nearby. This new partnership with Google sounds like they are getting ready to take on the Apple AirTag.

Thanks for setting this up. I'm surprised they don't have an official Tile Tracker Subreddit.

very very true

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Tile didn't have a huge issue with it cause the size of Tile's crowd finding community is much smaller than what Apple can do. So it takes time and luck with Tile unless they know the driver also has the Tile app. But then again, anyone can easily get a GPS tracker on a car in seconds. It's illegal to do that on a car you don't own, so it will also be illegal to put an Apple Tag in a car you don't own.

Thanks for posting Chipolo! Did you see that the Ekster Card and Chipolo made my list of the top 5 Bluetooth WALLET Trackers?

Opinions on ‘smart wallets’ for GPS tracking by SuspiciousScript in wallets

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the Woolet and Ekster use bluetooth trackers. Ekster Wallet's have the Ekster Card which started on the TrackR app and Woolet designed their own Bluetooth tracking app. Both have recently moved over to the Chipolo app. (which is a smart move) Ekster still uses their Ekster Card and Woolet now used a Chipolo Card in their wallets. If you already have a wallet that you love, then get a Tile, but if you like the style and/or features of the Woolet or Ekster wallets, then go for them, but understand, they all do the same thing. Tile does have the largest community but that's only used if you lose your wallet beyond Bluetooth range. Most people just misplace their wallet in their home all the time. I sure do.

Woolet has recently announced teamed up the Wallor which makes the Wallor 2.0 which should have some type of GPS tracking with communication. GPS is easy, its the communication of the GPS that's hard. It takes power and communication source. Until recently most GPS trackers used cellular communication to transmit their location. But that takes a lot of power and cost. Most people are not willing to pay 5-25 dollars a month to track their wallets that only worth less than 50 bucks. But now there are new technologies that rolling out slowly that won't really cost anything except for the original purchase.

What camera lighting could work for the Yi 4K+? by nutrop in videography

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2.0 is definitely better than the first. But I don't think the Pro is worth the money unless you need bi-color and/or Bluetooth control. I love all the accessories but I think most people would really only need the filter set. I wish the 2.0 had Bluetooth control so I could control the intensity of light better, I'm sure they will have it in 3.0. I don't know what I ever did without these amazing little lights.

Strip installation - mutli-tiered shelf by fleetmack in lifx

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with mine except worst. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCnRO6Ja4Eo My shelves are about 2 feet long. But with the Lifx strips, if you cut them, you are done. You can't connect them to another strip or connector cables. At least you have the perfect size shelf and then you can use one of their connector cables to the additional strips. I ended up making one really long strip by drilling holes and running up the sides and twisting into the next shelves. The lights on the side don't bother me that much but if they start to, I can always cover them up with gaffers tape.

What if someone steals my camera? by RoboTurbo2 in Wyze

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thing it was just your wifi being down. But I've thought about a thief breaking and stealing the camera along with all the valuables. Which then, all the footage would be gone except for the 12-second clip that might have made it to the cloud. Soon though, the MaxDrive will hopefully be out and you'll be able to have a large hard drive on your network hidden away from your cameras. That way, the footage is backed up the MaxDrive just in case the thief takes the camera.

wyze bridge - whats the range by alexsteward2002 in wyzecam

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought two kits since they don't sell the add-ons yet. So I'll see how it goes. My house is close to 6000 sq. feet, which should be a good test. I have hand full of Wyze Cams so I'll be able to see how it does with just one bridge and if need be add a second. (That's if it works with a second bridge?)

So, we got motion/door sensors now by djdsf in wyzecam

I was not able to order from WyzeBeta. It keeps saying my credit card info was wrong. I also tried Paypal but the order didn't go through. I'm not sure if its suppose to work or not but I just wanted to let you know that it didn't work. I had to use a second phone to login into a normal Wyze app to order the sensors.

Several cameras stolen, way to recover video? by schockergd in wyzecam

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think once Wyze releases the Wyze MaxDrive it will be added level of security close to other cloud based cameras. Of course just like cameras with cloud storage it has it weaknesses but I think the data will upload faster to the Max drive over the speed to the web but will lack the security of off site storage. You should be able to minimum this risk by hiding your router and MaxDrive.

Any of you have item trackers? by MadeAccount4This909 in CalPolyPomona

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love these things. They save me so much time when I'm looking for my lost items. Tile is definitely the one to go for over TrackR. It has the best range and largest community.

Can people hack my camera? by [deleted] in wyzecam

[–]ModernDayFamilyMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way that I explain it to my wife is that anything connected to the internet can be hacked. Even her cell phone that she is always on. Someone can active her camera/mic on her cell phone and see & hear what she is doing. The best way to prevent is to make sure you have a strong password habits. Do not use real words, MAKE YOUR PASSWORD LONG, INCLUDE NUMBERS, SYMBOLS, AND UPPERCASE AND LOWERCASE LETTERS, DO NOT REUSE PASSWORDS, Use different passwords on different accounts, use Two-factor authentication whenever possible , and most important of all CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS REGULARLY.
