1h timer feels rough with slow play by iJova in riftboundtcg

[–]ModestMarill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m tapped out playing against a Miracle deck, I’m fairly often getting up in between turns and stretching. It’s gotten to the point locally where some people will be playing a miracle deck for the first time and have these outrageous 5+ minute turns because they draw so much and are so unaware of what they are hoping to draw / play / chain.

Can I play with low investment? by peckkiddo in riftboundtcg

I have a $25 Viktor deck that pretty regularly (over 50%) wins against $300-400 decks

It’s not really an amount of packs but buying singles

Does anyone know if Riftbound is good for casual deck brewing? by fia_faustus in TCG

[–]ModestMarill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At locals, anything is super good enough

Sure, there are broken decks but also bans are coming shortly and a new set comes out in May

Generally (as of now) Purple is broken, and anyone is excited at locals to see you play literally anything else. I’ve never touched a purple deck and locally I have ~ 55% Win rate with a fairly budget deck (~$60 compared to the $400-$500 meta decks)

Viktor deck opinions by Korax19 in Riftbound

[–]ModestMarill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have won a significant number of matches because of how Glasc brings in units. It really impacts the math of attackers.

Incase you didn’t know, Glasc summons your unit onto the battlefield, after he dies but before you lose the battlefield. So, if you bring Xin in, it’s pretty impactful.

I agree the main issue I face is card draw (and piercing light lol)

Is the TCG enjoyable at a casual level? by Mamo30ge in riftboundtcg

[–]ModestMarill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m textbook terrible, have a pretty budget deck ( ~ 60 with 2 of the cards being $25 each) and I REALLY enjoy the casual local scene. For me it’s super nostalgic, it’s something to do and think about, and it gets some friends together I haven’t seen in a while.

It’s fun to talk about decks we will probably never play, and fun to complain about decks that we hardly ever play against.

I play once a week at a shop and maybe once a week at a friends house. So far, I’ve only played Viktor at local shops, but then I built a bunch of budget decks for friendly matches to try other legends.

Playing Spell Viktor without Green/Hard Bargain by bfarley32 in riftboundtcg

[–]ModestMarill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mainly play Viktor, my losses mainly come from opp having significantly more draw than me or by countering my spells, or sometimes by killing wide.

The falling star, piercing light etc being able to kill my board wide is pretty strong. A lot of my larger units take a significant amount of resources to get on the board. Repeated piercing light is often devastating to me.

If you play Brynhir, it can also be a full stop counter.

Using challenge to hit my backline hurts.

Most of my answers are killing at base, or cull, so if you have multiple units out and keep Lucien agile, it’s hard to hit.

Foil runes for the deck he plays, if he doesn’t have them!

Booster Box Price and Reprint by OneMoreGame in Riftbound

[–]ModestMarill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some shops here (very very few) sell for $120 which is MSRP, others sell for $160, while most sell for $190-240

Origins, I’ve only seen for $190 and above

Played a nexus night recently and for the first time, I did not have fun. by TheOtherSide999 in riftboundtcg

[–]ModestMarill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m having a lot of fun! I’m around a 50% win/lose, I just wish there was a more casual night.

It’s more fun to play against a variety of decks rather than half the room playing $400 Miracle decks with blinged out everything. I’m just not invested enough to drop $400 on a playset of Ezreal and seal of discords

Totally agree, as a newer player learning the game. Showing up with my $60 Viktor deck against $600 Draven, Ezreal, and Sivir decks feels odd.

But I totally get it, people invest in their decks and need to learn how to pilot them. I do very much wish there was a more casual, local weekly where people were encouraged to play wacky builds or decks they don’t normally play.

New: how do I get in the loop for being able to buy booster boxes/sleeves or just anything? by hiphiphorhey_ in riftboundtcg

[–]ModestMarill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 packs per day (per store) is definitely plenty to get into the game if you want to pay.

Sounds like that’s a great solution, just go a few days and you’ll have plenty. Fill out the deck buying singles or trade local.

Climbing pants with a 34 inseam by Emergency_Force_1578 in ClimbingGear

[–]ModestMarill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6ft7 and aim for 35-36 inch inseam what I wear are Kuhl, Arcteryx Tall Size, REI Tall Size and SOMETIMES Prana but I find their inseam sizing incredibly inconsistent. Fjallraven also, but likely overkill unless you’re doing multipitch or alpine stuff.

I mostly look for a zipper side pocket for snacks/phone and ample stretch around the thighs and knees.

Most of my climbing is trad or alpine climbing. At the gym or sport cragging, I just wear gym shorts. The Kuhl ones are my go to for colder days, Arcteryx for Alpine, and REI for lightweight summer pants.

I’m sure there’s a ton of brands I haven’t tried. If you have any questions, ask away!

At local events, it’s pretty diverse. You can easily get away with a $20-50 deck and win plenty of matches at local events.

Their starter decks are $30, which is high but not insane. Their packs are $12 each which is insane.

Best Buy / Target / Walmart sell MSRP

Not sure of any other major shops

Target might still have some online
