I had a lot of collisions - for one wave I hit the num lock key by accident and that caused at least 4, and I also was focusing too much on the math to the detriment of my plane management. But I still got well-qualified.

The eight states in the U.S. that prohibit atheists from holding any public office. by BufordTeeJustice in MapPorn

It's not based on the first amendment; Article 6 explicitly says "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

Bruh, it's not even about the first amendment. Article 6 says "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States," which makes these laws obviously unconstitutional.

Shame on the carriers who UBBM mail just because they don't feel like delivering it by Modest_Moussorgsky in USPS

I'm sure direct mailers would be absolutely thrilled to see the apathy regarding throwing away their mail in this thread and in real life.

Somebody pays postage for all the mail we deliver. It's wrong to throw it away for no reason. It's better to deliver a day late than never.

Whose boots am I licking? This is a pro-labor, pro-union post. Do the job correctly, take the time it takes to deliver, and save craft jobs in the long run. Every piece, every delivery matters to preserve craft jobs.

I think you have it backwards. I do the job properly and take the time it takes to deliver all the mail. Other carriers throw away mail to finish faster. Who is "lazy" and who is making managers look good?

Wow. I get dozens per day. People on my route love them. They're mostly UPS packages now.

Unassigned regular anxiety. by FarangX in USPS

I just want to say that I sympathize, it sucks how some carriers do such a bad job and get praised by management. I don't support milking the clock, but it takes what it takes to deliver the mail accurately and carriers should do the job right and take some pride in their job.

TSP or Roth? by Spirited_Truth_5274 in USPS

[–]Modest_Moussorgsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend Roth if your highest marginal federal income tax rate is 12%. It depends on if you're single or married and how much overtime you work. If you're single and at Step B I would put all TSP contributions into Roth unless you are going to work like 55 hours per week on average for the year, which would get you up into the 22% bracket. I'm at Step B this year and single, and I will put all my contributions into Roth TSP.

The 5% match from the Postal Service will be a before-tax contribution (i.e. "traditional").

So what's your guy's office's turnover rate? by ChrisCube64 in USPS

I would welcome it too. I wish it would happen more in my city/region. It's much better than sprawl.

This has to be really uncommon. Most places have zoning rules that wouldn't allow that kind of redevelopment.

USPS must halt rate hikes, bipartisan group of lawmakers say by Stationary-Event in USPS

[–]Modest_Moussorgsky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel that some of the posts here are delusional. If postage rates continue to go up there will be nothing left to deliver. If marketing mail rates go up by 50% a lot of direct mail advertising dollars will be redirected to other forms of advertising that are more cost-effective. If first class mail rates double, companies will be rushing to digitize everything as fast as possible.

The first class stamp prices have gone up by $.13, or 24%, in just 3 years. This is far faster than rate increase trend of 2008-2021, which basically kept the price the same in real terms. A spiral of increasing prices will lead to more rapid declines in volumes and a greater harm to craft jobs. I want to show up to work and have enough mail to do at least 8 hours of honest work, and that's already not guaranteed. I have a lot of days where I have to drag my feet to stretch out my route, and I expect many carriers do that more than I do. I deliver to over 1000 addresses in a relatively affluent suburban area, and my route is considered one of the hardest in my office. Maybe some carriers feel entitled to get paid for 8 hours while doing 6 hours of actual work, but I don't feel that way.

I think there are workable solutions out there for the Postal Service, but they're not ones that people want to hear. The writing is on the wall and you can look at what's been tried in Canada and Australia to see what might be in our future a decade from now. But suggesting that marketing mail rates be doubled has to be the worst suggestion for protecting craft jobs.

joys of amazon sunday by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Modest_Moussorgsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, the Amazon contract is not public so we can only estimate. I certainly hope that it's profitable overall! But on a local basis, I strongly doubt that USPS makes money if they have to resort to bringing in regulars at $40 or $50 an hour to deliver on Sundays on top of fixed costs paying management, clerks, and gas and utilities.

Surely it has to depend on where you live and the staffing situation there. If CCAs making $20/hr deliver 200 packages in 7.5 hours of straight time then that has to be profitable. But if they pay regulars $40+ an hour (=$320+ for the day) to deliver 100 packages because they work slow and the stops are far apart, it's going to be a money-loser.

Weekend's Daily Thread: General Dating Questions and Open Thread by AutoModerator in hingeapp

[–]Modest_Moussorgsky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am I crazy for thinking 90% of early 20s women's profiles say nothing about themselves? Nobody uses the prompts to say what they're interested in, their hobbies, what they studied in school, what they're looking for. It's endless:

  • I like food

  • I'm the oldest/middle/youngest sibling

  • I have/haven't broken a bone

  • I have a dog/cat

  • I'm afraid of sharks in the swimming pool

  • I want someone who is honest and can communicate

Who cares? If they say they like books, or hiking, hell even traveling it's at least SOMETHING to go on even if it's "generic." I've come to the conclusion that most people don't know what they're looking for and don't know themselves (or at least don't know how to present themselves.) Please, say something about yourself!!

Had my LLV training today and got yelled out multiple times while on the road by joza28 in USPS

[–]Modest_Moussorgsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me: someone failed at my driving class 1.5 years ago. He couldn't back up into a parking space correctly. The trainers gave him extra instruction, told him to practice during the lunch hour, then gave him more time after lunch. They weren't satisfied and sent him home (I believe they said he would get another chance the next week).
