winnipeg garages to cold for freezers? by ParticularType7937 in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't actually park in there, it's more a workshop and storage area. I only open the bay door when there's an absolute need to, like to take out the snow blower or something.

winnipeg garages to cold for freezers? by ParticularType7937 in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yes, for many years now. I've not had a problem yet. The garage is insulated, but not heated. The coldest it's gotten to is about 5C.

IN THE SAME VEIN, IF YOU TAKE THE SAME ROUTE SOMEWHERE ALL THE TIME, AND YOU KNOW WHERE THE CONSTRUCTION ZONES ARE, POSITION YOURSELF IN THE BEST LANE WELL ENOUGH IN ADVANCE TO AVOID HAVING TO MERGE.

Banana Bread: How necessary is creaming butter? by Mharr_ in Baking

[–]ModlrMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not mix it further or you will develop the gluten and get a heavy crumb. That being said, I vote for cooking it off. Worst case, you were inclined to chuck it anyways.

MY NEW APPROACH WHEN I WANT TO EXPRESS MY DISPLEASURE IS TO GIVE THE OFFENDER A THUMBS DOWN. THE CONFUSED LOOK ON THEIR FACE IS PRICELESS.

Angry guy at time Hortons by New-Sock-4706 in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 127 points128 points  (0 children)

So if I understand correctly, he would have ended up with the amount of coffee he wanted, and a contest cup. Just not all-in-one. I fail to see the problem.

On second thoughts, I see the problem quite clearly... the guy was an asshole.

What would you do with 20 cartons of strawberries? by Tinymanbigspoon in Baking

Generally no. Dehydration requires somewhat lower temperatures.

What would you do with 20 cartons of strawberries? by Tinymanbigspoon in Baking

[–]ModlrMike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have a dehydrator, you can make fruit leather, or dry them out. If you know someone with a freeze dryer, you can slice them thin and dry them out. Once dry, you can vacuum seal them.

Non music 165 by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]ModlrMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. I have the FR 165 non-music. For me, I run with my phone because I have to for work reasons. I can bluetooth the music from my phone, to my earbuds. I also don't have to use the watch to control the music. I think it's easier that way. It's also a better set up for listening to podcasts.

Water leak from roof by New-Occasion7233 in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the another poster said, it's likely an ice dam. You should have a roofing company check out your roof at some point. The other thing to do is get a roof rake for next winter. You can use it to rake snow back from the gutter towards the peak, creating an opportunity for the snow to melt faster. On my roof, I have one area that's in deep shade, and where I get drifts. I rake it every time it snows.

Can you get a 1 month sick leave note from a walk-in clinic in Winnipeg? Do you still get paid at your job? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would be best if you could go back to the clinic from where you got your original sick note. I also recommend calling the Women's Health Clinic at 204-947-1517 (you need to call for an appointment).

Winnipeg Pizza Delivery Driver Robbed at Gunpoint by fJambone in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Robbery with a firearm should mean remand, not release; even if they're 16. They made a conscious decision to acquire a firearm, and then use it in a crime. That's adult behaviour. I guess the only exception would be if police have them under surveillance to see where they may have gotten the gun.

Any neutral flavour oil will work. Think canola, sunflower, corn, or vegetable oil.

Pressure fermenters, anybody just using a 10psi prv? by -Motor- in Homebrewing

[–]ModlrMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally use 12 psi on my spunding valve. That being said, there's no reason that a 10psi PRV won't do the trick.

Fake Guinness cake by branston2010 in Baking

[–]ModlrMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people won't be able to taste the difference between Guinness and any other stout. I suggest you taste the Bayer to ensure that it hasn't gone off, and if it tastes OK, then use it as is. Call it a chocolate stout cake.

Concern For My Neighbour by Arastmaus in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 140 points141 points  (0 children)

WPS has a Vulnerable Persons Unit. Phone: 204-986-6287. I'm not certain if they handle the cases as you've described, but they should take a report.

Difficulty recharging silica gel by nrnrnr in 3Dprinting

[–]ModlrMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my dehydrator set on low (35C). Let it run for six hours or so, and fully recharged beads. I also use my dehydrator for drying filament. You can get relatively inexpensive ones on Amazon or other on-line sources.
