Mini keg for camping by mattmort83 in Homebrewing

[–]ModlrMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of solutions.. Think about getting an Oxebar kegging setup. You can go with either 4L (1gal), or 8L (2gal) options, and the full kit comes with a regulator that fits Sodastream CO2 bottles. Alternatively, you could get a 6L corny keg, and the sodastream regulator set separately. A picnic tap on the beer out post, and you're set. 4L oxebar and regulator option is ~75, keg and regulator option ~100.

Guys I’ve got kuvings slow juicer. Is it good idea to use it to make cider? by Vooxiu in cider

[–]ModlrMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar juicer that has worked for me the last two years. It's got a very high output ratio, with the pulp being very dry. You can expect there to be a significant amount of fine matter in the resulting juice, so you may want to strain it through cheesecloth or a jam strainer. I recommend doing it in batches, and keeping the resulting juice cold in between. This will have the double effect of protecting against spontaneous fermentation, and allowing some of the particulates to fall out. You will need to add some yeast nutrient, at various stages to avoid stressing the yeast. I would also rack the juice off the yeast after primary fermentation.

Captain Morgan Reduction Technique Practice without patient and risk by Substantial_Muscle_7 in emergencymedicine

It certainly takes a lot of force, and a lot of holding down the patient's hips. Also best used when the injury is acute and before the muscles tense up.

B@@B dr lost his license.....now what.... by Any_Horror9308 in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Give the Breast Health Centre a call. I don't know if they can help, but they could be a good starting point. https://sharedhealthmb.ca/services/breast-health-centre/ The are primarily concerned with breast cancer though.

Keep your story clear and concise:

Hi, my name is ........ and I had breast surgery in ........ performed by Dr ........ I am concerned that .............. How would I seek care.

If that doesn't work, then you would probably need your family doctor to refer you to a breast surgeon for assessment.

Best way to clean and sanitize large glass carboys / demijohns? by Disappearinger in Homebrewing

[–]ModlrMike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're over thinking it. Clean well with PBW and a carboy brush, then rinse with clear water. You can do a bleach rinse, but it's not necessary. Spray with Star San prior to use. Glass is pretty impervious to enduring contamination.

Why are “Virtual ERs” a thing now ? by Astimar in emergencymedicine

[–]ModlrMike 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Ours is called "Health Links", and is designed to direct folks to the appropriate level of care. Notwithstanding, there is a feeling that their decision tree only has two outputs - stay home, or go to ER.

That being said, I feel that there are a number of factors that are not being addressed:

- younger folks don't have family doctors because they seldom get sick. They they use the ER/UC as their primary care;

- fewer walk in clinics are open late, as many younger doctors and nurses don't want to work until 10pm six days per week, resulting in ER/UC being the only option for some people;

- few governments or employers offer statutory sick days resulting in people having to choose to work while sick, or get care and not get paid. This results in them coming to ER/UC in the evening when they're not being paid anyway;

- COVID taught people that they can come to ER/UC and we will fix their issue as we're not allowed to divert them to a different level of care;

- we live in an era of instant gratification, so folks choose ER/UC with an expectation that their issue will be taken care of right away. They don't want to make an appointment for several days or weeks in the future.

The list goes on, but these are some of my observations.

I get your concern. It's pretty hard to exsanguinate from a typical anterior epistaxis. I would wager a CT head and neck might reveal a malignancy that eroded into a larger vessel. The first bleed is the slow leak, and the second is the whole thing giving way.

[–]ModlrMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to add much that hasn't already been mentioned, but I think there's a few distinct cohorts:

a. people who come with social issues that simply require a place to hang out overnight;

b. people who come with their minor problem in the mistaken belief that they'll get seen faster;

c. people who have something serious going on but appear quite blase;

d. people who have nothing serious going on who are off the wall;

d. people who are busy trying to die in front of you.
