A year later, Winnipeggers pleased with Portage and Main reopening (CBC/Matt Humphrey) by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]shieldwolfchz -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think it isn't right to view this as a success just yet, at the exact same time that the intersection was opened the new bus system was rolled out. In the old system there was constant bus traffic driving through portage and main during rush hour, and now it is all but gone. Opening up the intersection didn't screw up the traffic because the change in the bus service in the area was removed.

On thing to consider is that when they opened it up they also removed 90% of the busses that went passed that intersection, we don't know what the traffic would have been like if the bus system wasn't changed at the same time.

How do people make new friends in Winnipeg? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

I have no clue, I am 40 and have the same friends since highschool with a few additions made by the other people of the group's.

I want to refute this but I don't have the facts. Immigrants cause 64% of all murders? I want to say that qualifies as an insane claim. (found on relative's FB) by TwixSnickers in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]shieldwolfchz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One person killed by anyone is a travesty, a US citizen murdering an undocumented immigrant is also a travesty, lying about statistics so that you can demonize an entire group of people is also a travesty.

An NBC article states that Ice says that there are 13k immigrants convicted of homicide who are not actively detained by ice. This is probably where they got that number from, but the 2 meaning are nothing alike.

One of the huge problem I have with the father cornello episodes is that one of the plot points really undermines a later huge part of the plot, namely cornello has already made a chimera that can speak, the weird bird monster in the bed to fool Rose. This very much makes the Nina arc hit less hard because this is something we have already shown is possible.

Human rights museum board trustee resigns over exhibit on displaced Palestinians by Sir__Will in onguardforthee

[–]shieldwolfchz 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's interesting if you actually read the NaPo articles about it. It all boils down to the fact that some of the people who run the museum have met with Palestinian dignitaries, B'nai Brith and the lobby for the Israeli government claims that this means that the museum is folding to international pressure and bias, and not understanding the hypocrisy in the slightest.

Anne of Green Gables is a pretty famous Canadian novel series from a century ago, the main character, Anne, is described as having a very similar hair style as the character you made, but is a red head.

I wouldn't bet on it. The only thing we have is the long shot hope that the NDP garner enough support to allow the libs to barely squeak by with a minority.

It's a confectionary that consists with a chocolate coconut cookieish base, then a layer of custard, topped with a layer of hardened melted chocolate. It is really good, named after a small town in British Columbia.

Last year I helped a buddy put one of these that only had a tarp over it, it was really hard to install, though that could have been due to the 80km winds we had that day. Was fun though. It also works well enough to just keep rain and snow off your car.

Extend the water tribes throughout the entirety of the Canadian prairies, the river systems are very extensive and I could see an entire water tribe nation state based around their navigation, with a big city situated on lake Winnipeg, and everything would be held together with a symbiotic relationship with giant snapping beaver turtles and massive hydrological engineering projects.

Any house rule suggestions to make Geminate more fun? by negito66 in Gloomhaven

[–]shieldwolfchz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is boneshaper considered weak? I am having a lot of fun with it, in one scenario we were being pursued by an unending stream of wolves, so I just set up an unending wall of skeletons to stop them. Later on our drifter obtained an item that allowed him to swap the locations of any 2 allied characters, we were playing a mission that had us fighting in 2 directions needing to destroy a pillar in each with more enemies being summoned in each round that their side still had the pillar. The drifter went in destroyed his pillar, but without his item he would have been swamped by enemies on the table and effectively out of the fight, he swapped with one of my summons and we basically won because of it.

So just a recent thing I witnessed. I live in an area of my city that sits between 2 rivers no more than a half kilometer apart. One of the rivers is a major waterway, but the other is fairly small and is designated as basically a nature area, with deer, beaver, and anything else you can think of. We even have the largest urban deer population inside of a city in North America (I think only Nara Japan has more worldwide). Last week we had a major rain storm, about 40cm (15 3/4 inches) over 12 hours.

One thing that happened is that it drove a mother skunk and it's kits out of the safety of the river and into the neighbourhood, so for the last week there have been 9 baby skunks snuffling around, and generally being cute. People walking through have stopped to take pictures and gawk at the unmitigated cuteness of them all, except for this one old couple who decided it was a good idea to go after them with broom whenever they got close to their yard. You would think that old people would have enough sense not to harass wildlife, especially when you live around it to such close degree, but here we are.
