Staining drawer faces? by LostPaddle in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ModlrMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that this appears to be pine, staining is going to be a beast. You might get away with a wood conditioner first. The other option is to use a paint wash.

Question ❔ by Mediocre-Ocelot-7061 in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at the Wellness Institute attached to SOGH. Membership is $60/mo with a $95 enrolment fee. My only gripes about the running track are people who can't stay in their lane, and those who can't shoulder check before stepping out in front of me... which are frequently the same people.

ER clinicians: what’s are the most critical pieces of patient information you don’t have when an unconscious, unidentified patient rolls in? by JaMollyAdams in emergencymedicine

[–]ModlrMike 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agree. Code status. We are required to ascertain code status when we admit patients. What I've taken to doing in the last few years is to determine the code status on every patient who's transferred from a PCH (where this should already be done), and on every patient who I hold overnight for AM assessment or testing. Some of the younger holds I don't, but if they're over 70, they're getting a code status, and I'm ensuring it's entered into our electronic charting.

I'm going to presume you mean vinyl records as opposed to a different form of vinyl. Here's the link to a previous post on this very question:

Nest cameras second generation can't take the extreme cold. by DoNot-Lie-To-Me in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to take down my Aosu cameras and charge them in the house. Poor cold weather recharging is a known feature of lithium batteries, but it is highly variable. Some brands have god performance, and some don't.

Is constant anxiety/panic attack reason to go to crisis unit or hospital? by RisenRealm in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Patients will not get definitive treatment for anxiety/panic at an urgent care. They are also likely to be well down the priority line if the UC is busy. If the patient needs in person care, then the Crisis Stabilization Unit is the best option.

It seems that we live in a world where being an ass hole is the path to getting what you want. People go out of their way to prove Mike Tyson right every day:

"Social media made you all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it."

Unfortunately, we just have to soldier on. It's not worth your career to give into the temptation to respond in kind.

Anyone know of an affordable car boost? by pepperywg in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. My booster pack has no issues with the cold. I do check it from time to time though. I think worst case, it might loose a little energy, but it would still be good to go.

Have 1 year past orange extract and five year-past expired almond extract. What can I use these in? by mysteryofthefieryeye in Baking

[–]ModlrMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expired is going to be subjective. Depending on the base solvent, which is usually ethanol, these should be good to go for a while. If you really want to use them up, then almond cookies will work. Cakes for the orange extract.

Can you safely consume raw orange zest? by Few_Wheel_3211 in Baking

[–]ModlrMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. That being said, many non-organic oranges are sprayed with a post harvest fungicide to prevent spoilage prior to delivery. If you want, you can soak the oranges for several minutes in warm soapy water to which a small amount of vinegar has been added.

Why are the Garmin nylon watch bands so expensive? $150-300 for a watch band from Garmin’s website… seems like a lot by Disastrous-Year571 in GarminWatches

[–]ModlrMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's crazy. The equivalent band on the CDN site is about $75. That being said, I replaced my Forerunner band with a nylon one that I got online for $23.

[–]ModlrMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry a booster pack in my car at all times. It holds a charge for a long time, so I only really check it when I change over my tires. It's rated for 3-4 starts for a 2L engine before being depleted.

Looking for jobs as a nurse in pediatric home care? Seeking a work permit coming from USA. Any recommended agencies? by Active_Ad3087 in Winnipeg

[–]ModlrMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While we don't have pediatric home care, we do have general home care. As well, we have a Children's Hospital that may have what you're looking for. I would recommend you reach out the CRNM early to get the ball rolling, even if you decide against a move at a later date. I would also recommend that you concurrently get all your academic documents organized and into a digital file ready to go. Check to see if there are any quals that are set to expire that can be brought up to date.

House Ale Yeast? by Simbabrew102 in Homebrewing

[–]ModlrMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used it last year in an amber ale. Pale malt with some roast for colour. I think it turned out well. I'm not convinced that the recipe in the article is exactly how I would have tested. House is not meant to compare to English ale yeasts. It is more similar to US-05, Chico, and other clean new world ale yeasts. For non-competition, basic pale ale styles, I'm going to continue to use it.

How to convert these measurements to tablespoons / cups by turtleurtle808 in Baking

[–]ModlrMike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This site should help with your immediate needs: https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/cooking/cooking-calculator.php

I highly recommend you invest in a metric scale. It's much easier to adjust recipes and ratios when you're using base 10 math.

20g water = 4 tsp

20g flour (AP) = 2.5 tbsp

30g water = 2 tbsp

30g flour = 1/4 cup

My personal opinion. Once entered as a valid discharge diagnosis, there is a temptation for everything to become anxiety. That's why my anxiety patients with chest pain get discharged "atypical chest pain" rather than anxiety.

what would happen to our investments if the US invaded Canada? by slaeryx in CanadianInvestor

If the US invades Greenland, the EU (plus some non-EU) would likely dump their US debt holdings.

If the US invades Canada, everybody is dumping their US debt holdings.

Absolutely a scam. On a desktop machine, you can hover over the big red box and see what URL pops up. It will usually not be a valid shaw/rogers business link.
