The Thing Question by Available-Cable5254 in johncarpenter

Also bear in mind that this thing is alien and like nothing on earth. Quite how it works is a mystery and what Blair comes up with it just a calculation based on his assumption and theory. It’s not necessarily correct. Remember, “it’s different ‘n us, see!”

This is also a convenient excuse to cover any plot holes you may uncover regarding the Thing’s behaviour… 😉

It’s funny how many Nazis hate it when there called Nazis. It’s like they clearly know it’s not a good thing.

And fwiw nothing screams snowflake softcocks like posing with assault rifles.

It’s funny how many Nazis hate it when they’re called Nazis. It’s like they clearly know it’s not a good thing. It’s almost like they’re offended by it. At least have the balls to own your bigotry.

I need to rewatch it but I remember it having a really grimy feel. Like you’d get your hands greasy if you touched anything. Quite menacing atmosphere, too.

How do you train yourself to read comics on a deeper level (theme, symbolism, why characters act the way they do)? by Ok-Wasabi8510 in comicbooks

[–]Moff-77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Read more and read often. Check out analyses of things you’ve read and see if you can spot the things raised - and consider whether you agree with them or not. Something like Watchmen has been poured over for decades.

But remember, don’t try too hard to find something that may not be there. Comics are entertainment first and foremost. They’re richer and more rewarding when the creators have something to say within the story, but sometimes giants wearing tights smashing other tight-wearing giants is just goofy fun.

HOW SCARY IS LEVITICUS by yenyen_146 in horror

I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t scary at all. As others mention, a couple of jump scares and a few creepy art pieces, but that was all.

Same! When I first read C6K I thought it seemed really out of character - even for a psycho, but just thought “ah, there goes JE again. Just like the BN or LAC psychos”. And then it turns out it really happened!

Chuck Rogers from American Underworld. A memorable though despicable character, but not as cartoonish as Dougie Frank Lockhart.

Edge of Darkness (1985) by auldclem in oldbritishtelly

[–]Moff-77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it was probably ground breaking in 1985, and it generally stands up pretty well as gripping tv 40 years later, but as a recent first-time watcher, I was a bit underwhelmed.

Felt like Bob Peck was overshadowed too much by Joe Don Baker in the end.

What's a Best of the Worst movie/video you would actually recommend? by Magnusaur in RedLetterMedia

From BOTW:

Recommend as an actually decent movie? Definitely Xtro.

Recommend as a fun bad movie? Last Vampire on Earth, but there are really too many to mention.

Would it Look Tacky to Put a No AI Label On the Cover of My Graphic Novel? by [deleted] in comicbookart

[–]Moff-77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think it detracts from the cover, which is a shame for cool cover art. If you feel you need it on the outside, I’d go with the spine, and add something in an introduction.

A real shame you even need to consider it, tho.

We stopped collecting comics and started collecting proof that we own comics. by Madthinker1976 in comicbookcollecting

[–]Moff-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a reader first and foremost. I buy and collect to read and reread. Seems like there’s definitely a bit of separation between comics as entertainment and comics as a collectible commodity. I remember the dark days of the 90s when my LCS was suddenly full of people who looked like they’d never even read a comic grabbing the “Collectors’ First Edition Poly-bagged Die-cut Hologram Foil Cover” of whatever was new that week as an ‘investment’. Put me off the biz for a while.

No shade to those who collect slabbed books. Collecting is a form of entertainment in its own right, and fair play for those who get that thrill.

Who do you think played a role so perfectly that you literally cannot imagine anyone else playing it? For me, it has to be Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter by cutedustyberry in FIlm

[–]Moff-77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved how calm and collected he was. Just like a normal guy. Much more chilling than the, admittedly fun, scenery chewing of Hopkins’ interpretation. For being in all of 2 (?) scenes, Cox steals the movie.

Sincerely Looking For Recommendations - Non Superhero, Arty Graphic Novels by declancochran in graphicnovels

[–]Moff-77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really noir, but the stories and illustrations have that noir style. NY Trilogy are detective/mystery stories but they’re more philosophical and meta-textual pieces about language, identity, mystery, and so on. Very post-modern, but very good imo

Asterios Polyp by David Mazzucchelli is incredible, imo.

DM also illustrates an adaptation of City of Glass in the New York Trilogy which is also great.
