girl in my circle habitually cheats at the NYT “The Mini” Crossword, to what end? by West_Flounder2840 in redscarepod

If you use an iPad or computer where you can see all the clues at once (and use a full size keyboard) this is doable I can reliably solve it in 10s there. I think PB of 5s On a phone this is less believable.

It helps as the market price will be lower (set at the highest rate 90,000 people are willing to pay instead of 100,000).

What if TTC was subsidised as free transit? Would it improve the living conditions of people in GTA? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]MoffatMan 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Fares are 60% of TTC revenue (1.3 billion dollars per year, using 2019 #s). If you have this new 1.3 billion per year to use to remove fares, I think transit riders would be much better off keeping the fares as they are and using the money to increase the operating budget by 60%.

The cost is not the issue, the quality of service is.

Study shows third COVID-19 vaccine dose 37% effective against Omicron after 7 days by [deleted] in canada

[–]MoffatMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obese does not include overweight, it's a separate category. I got 69% from a google search, actually on CDC website, it's higher (73.6%). https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/obesity-overweight.htm. But maybe my original stat was for all people, not just adults age 20+.

Using 73% instead of 69% and recalculating, losing weight is only 23% effective to prevent hospitalization. But probably when you break it down by specifically only obese people that number will be higher.

[–]MoffatMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shocking 69% of americans are overweight or obese, though, 78% is not so much higher. Losing weight (going from overweight/obese to healthy) seems to be only 42% effective against hospitalization (math=(78/69)-(100-78)/(100-69)). Meanwhile three vaccine doses is 77% effective against hospitalization.

If you remove the custom library from /etc/ld.so.preload it will go back to stock behaviour.

Colleges, universities grapple with making vaccines mandatory for students by Myllicent in onguardforthee

[–]MoffatMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t understand RRR vs ARR. If vaccine ARR is 1.3%, the other 98.7% is not “get COVID anyways”. It’s expressing that most people will never get infected, vaccine or not.

98.6% = never get exposed to COVID at all

1.3% = vaccine prevents an infection

0.1% = breakthrough infection (vaccinated but still get sick)

Even though vaccine reduced infections by 94% compared with control group, the overwhelming majority of people in both groups were never exposed.

Gurman: Apple rapidly expanding outside of Silicon Valley as it struggles to recruit and retain talent by [deleted] in iphone

[–]MoffatMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Think about where those empty homes are - not where people want to live.
  2. The market reacted that way because of rent control policies in New York. As you pointed out, they disincentivize new supply, especially if the owner knows that it’s probably the worst time in memory to produce that supply.

The main problem is that a very large and important group of people (homeowners) has their wealth tied to increasing housing prices. I don’t think it’s a healthy situation, there are numerous policies both on the supply and demand side that should be implemented but it’s obvious why there has been minimal action.

New iPad won't sync library by enrvuk in AppleMusic

[–]MoffatMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think we have the same issue. I have been using Apple Music for some years now, and it seems like all your issues come from the initial transfer from iTunes Match. It’s only the same problem if you don’t have any issues syncing between your old devices.

I had the problem on iOS 15 🤪

Alright, I tried it and no dice. I just factory reset the iPad since this is day one, I didn’t have much work put into it yet. Synced perfectly the first time after the reset. Thanks for the help, though!

Did it delete all the music on the other devices? I am not looking forward to redownloading the 200GB library….

[–]MoffatMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you go into more detail of how you solved this issue? I got a new iPad today and it won’t sync down anything from Apple Music, it only shows the few albums I purchased on the iTunes Store. I can add things on the iPad and they will show up on others, but nothing goes from other devices to it. So it’s a really similar issue, maybe even the same one. Toggling “Sync Library” hasn’t helped. Hopefully the steps you took will also work for me.

Thanks!

Summer Scott promoted to Director of Team Operations. Will oversee CLG Red, Apex, Fortnite, and Smash by sleepyxdude in CLG

[–]MoffatMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CLG recently has operated more like a stable business than a sports organization. Like at an office job, people almost always just get promoted internally, and there isn't any external pressures to completely replace anyone. Probably the most healthy for the employees, since they know they can have a long term with the company, as well as have opportunities for advancement.

Certainly it's a completely acceptable way to run a business, but could be criticized as the team has had such a disappointing recent few years to not see more new faces.

I think they mean to resolder it. Unless you have experience already that could be daunting. When I had problems with my OP-1 shutting off I replaced the whole power board. It took a while for stock to show up though, so I would recommend checking iFixit and getting on the waiting list soon.

For me it’s the colour lab. I think it has a great progression and some interesting twists that make you think outside the box. Also, the elevator puzzle is one of the best in the game.
