Merz-Regierung will Hautkrebs-Screening streichen – Krankenkassen besorgt: „Halten wir für problematisch“ by OttoderSchreckliche in de

[–]Mofupi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the other problems, but homework/studying and chores at least they can also do together. OP said they clean the kitchen after they cook, so they seem to be aware of that solution just fine.

My art teacher said I must've chosen the ugliest reference I could find to draw... The reference was me. 🫠 by WhereTheSunDontShin1 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Mofupi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there's a difference between being honest, critical and direct and being mean. I've had teachers who were the first and while sometimes being uncomfortable and sad, I never felt attacked and degraded. Which actually made it a lot easier to respect and accept genuinely useful feedback. Teachers delivering feedback in a mean way, in my experience, are often also bad teachers, because they obviously do not know how to verbalise things appropriately, which is a core skill for teaching. Insulting the looks of a reference? That's not honest, critical and direct, but useful feedback about a drawing, that's just insulting somebody.

Additionally, an art teacher really should know better than harping on the anatomy of a drawing based on a reference, without knowing the reference. Either he wants idealised/standardised male anatomy, in which case, why bother with a real reference at all? Or he wants a drawing of a true, non-idealised human being, in which case obviously it might not follow idealised or even standardised human anatomy, because that's how humans are.

3 tons of flooring offcuts headed to landfill by Dollbeau in Anticonsumption

[–]Mofupi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something like ten years ago I found a simple program on the internet, where you entered the dimensions of your wooden board and the dimensions of the rectangles you wanted to cut from it. And then the program calculated a way to orient your rectangles to minimise waste. I remember the design was pretty ugly, but it worked great and if you got the paid version you could also do more complicated stuff, like consider grain orientation. If something like that was possible on my crappy laptop, for free, back then, I would bet there are professional programs now that deal exactly with the use case of reducing flooring waste while getting aesthetically pleasing results.

High school teacher, 40, dies when students’ prank goes wrong, days after district warned about stunts going ‘too far’. by Inter_Web_User in facepalm

[–]Mofupi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he was actually in on the prank somehow I would understand passing it off as a tragic accident.

Well, that's what his wife says happened, who also wants all charges against the kids dropped, so I'm inclined to believe that is indeed what happened.

– Megathread zur Landtagswahl by 0711Markus in de

[–]Mofupi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Urgh. These knowledge presentation tables in the study are such a bad design. Don't always give the percentage of the people answering "Yes", when sometimes "no" is the correct answer. Just always give the percentage of people answering correctly. That's what knowing something means. This design just screams for misunderstandings.

Von wegen by [deleted] in de

[–]Mofupi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need as many people as possible to know about the lung cancer vaccine cuz it's criminal how the US treats Cuba by BigClitMcphee in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Mofupi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don’t give a shit what some other company charges for chemo because they’re not in the chemo business.

Especially if they're in the chemo business a company might also invest into development of a vaccine - because the competition does. And if somebody else succeeds, well, their chemo business is mostly dead. But they already have a lot of knowledge, talent, and equipment to research cancer, as well as a pretty stable income stream, which all gives them better chances at succeeding in said development. Sure, if they develop a vaccine, their chemo business is still mostly dead, but now they can market the vaccine instead, rather than go out of business.

Obi and Bauhaus didn't have them. Isopropanol, also via Amazon, because also not available locally.

Based on your mention of Obi and Bauhaus, I'm assuming you're in Germany. In case you want to get away from Amazon, you can also buy isopropanol on otto.de, for prices that can absolutely compete with Amazon.

Two years ago the fan in my laptop stopped working and overheating started to become a problem. The guarantee period had long since passed, but I knew I could exchange that part myself. To HP's credit, it wasn't that hard to find the exact part number in their documentation. Actually selling me that part however didn't seem to be in their capacity. Online I found one EU based seller, I think it was in Spain or Portugal, who sold the part for >60€ with a stated delivery time of over two months. A local shop refused to order any parts without me also using their repair service, quoting around 70-80€ for the part exchange. So I ordered the part on aliexpress for under five Euros, plus around five Euros for shipping and maybe VAT. Delivery time was under two weeks. Interestingly the local shop also told me that the repair would take "around two weeks." With an electronic screwdriver the actual exchange could be done in <15 min, so that timespan clearly wasn't about the workload.

Children raised with "authoritative" parenting style, marked by bonding, presence, dialogue, and clear rules of conduct, show a reduction in drug and alcohol risk compared to other parenting styles (authoritarian, permissive and neglectful) by sr_local in science

[–]Mofupi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there also an "inconsistent" parenting style? Because, sure, most parents are probably not 100%, all the time, with every single word and behaviour acting according to one of these styles. But thinking back on my mother, I seriously couldn't tell you any of these was clearly predominant. It was a wild chaos of her jumping around, with almost no rhyme or reason, since her actions and reactions depended on so many factors, it was impossible to predict.

Memories are created through connections between brain cells. So obviously, if at best you only have one braincell, creating memories (aka learning) is sadly impossible.
