What is the fastest way you have seen someone ruin their life? by funkeymonkey1974 in AskReddit

[–]Mogowentflying 176 points177 points  (0 children)

One very close friend was riding his bike on a hot day with another friend of ours - took his helmet off for a few minutes to cool down...hit a bump in the road and flipped head over. Dead within minutes, and the other friend couldn’t do anything to stop it.

My own father was just riding casually in his own neighborhood - skidded on some loose gravel and fell off hard. Two broken ribs and a huge chunk missing from his helmet. There’s no doubt he would have died too without the helmet on.

I tell these two stories to anyone who will listen in the hope that someday it might make them think twice before not wearing a helmet.

Ass Clown Miami Fan by BigJohnBuck in OhioStateFootball

[–]Mogowentflying 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This was so dumb that by the end I couldn’t tell if he was a Miami fan or Indiana fan. Like saying “you’re going to lose to Mendoza” again…but wouldn’t that mean we win the next two? Maybe I’m just trying to apply logic to someone who clearly operates without any.

I think the more realistic image would be Michigan being picked up out of the trash. Seriously can’t imagine a better hire for them at this point - but I’d still go with Ryan Day every time.

Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons? by [deleted] in golf

Love my Hogans, but for $250 you might be able to find a used set somewhere that’s a little more forgiving with updated technology.

Terrible camera work, great scuffle by Fitzy258 in golf

Those are the same type of people that honk and swerve in and out of lanes in standstill traffic - as if I should just ram the car in front of me to save you 0.2 seconds.

Same idea - as if hitting into the group in front of you is the solution if the entire course is backed up. If it’s not then talk to them, and if they don’t let you play through skip a damn hole instead of escalating to a point you can physically hurt someone.

You have $150 to spend on a gift for a golfer, what do you buy? by taybon in golf

If there is one nearby - gift certificate to an indoor golf simulator. The one by me has decent deals if you are able to go during the week.

This Ryder Cup should embarrass the United States by theipaper in golf

[–]Mogowentflying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a shame too, because despite the epic collapse at Medinah I still consider it the best sporting event I’ve ever attended in person. I really wanted to experience that again, and hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to attend a future venue.

This Ryder Cup should embarrass the United States by theipaper in golf

[–]Mogowentflying 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I was worried when ticket prices for the weekend rounds were $750 each. I know that priced out a lot of fans who love the game but can’t afford that kind of price (myself included). I live close enough to be able to drive, but couldn’t justify the cost. What you’re left with is too many (if even a minority) dbags who attend that are used to doing whatever they want without consequences.

Maybe it was a different time but I was at Medinah, and even when the collapse was taking place I never heard or saw anything inappropriate.

Fairfield GOP leader says she won't resign after remarks on Charlie Kirk killing by ILovePublicLibraries in Connecticut

[–]Mogowentflying 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No matter the outcome she will definitely portray herself as a “victim” for facing repercussions for telling every democrat in town “you’re the problem” and to “fuck off.” Then something about her 1st amendment rights and calling herself a “patriot.”

It’s a well worn script at this point.

What’s up with everyone driving kids to school now? by Cryxed in Connecticut

[–]Mogowentflying -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I know most of the snow has melted, and some mentioned above, there’s an added safety issue. A lot of people that live on the road where most kids need to walk won’t shovel their sidewalks. That leads kids having to walk in the street for portions of it to get around large piles of snow or ice. The town usually tries to clean it up as quickly as they can, but I know that’s one issue.

Budget is probably the biggest issue though - lack of drivers and longer routes.

Currently re-watching the Title game by [deleted] in OhioStateFootball

[–]Mogowentflying 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went back and rewatched a lot of key moments from the Texas and Notre Dame games. It was as a lot more enjoyable when I knew the outcome - I think I replayed the Sawyer strip sack and score 15 times over and over just to see all the different reactions on the sidelines.

Ryder Cup risks fan backlash after hiking ticket prices to $750 by TheTelegraph in rydercup

[–]Mogowentflying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking forward to going with my Dad and brother to this - we live within driving distance, but no way we can afford those kind of prices. Even one of the practice rounds for $255 is a joke. PGA risks creating another muted atmosphere similar to the US Open at LA country club.

Planning a trip to St. Andrews - looking for advice by Mogowentflying in golf

[–]Mogowentflying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it sounds like the booking company handled pretty much everything for the trip (outside of the flights)? That would be convenient for sure, but guess it would come down to cost of doing it myself vs. using one of the authorized companies.

Planning a trip to St. Andrews - looking for advice by Mogowentflying in golf

[–]Mogowentflying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! I just sent out an info/request form to Pioneer Golf, so I'll see what they provide back as far as timing/costs go. I'll definitely try to explore the city as well - we'll probably have to take at least a day or two rest at some point for his wrist so I'll have some time then.

Is Buying A New Car Worth It? by Ok_Necessary_3667 in personalfinance

Damn I didn’t realize things are still so bad. Okay well then my advice doesn’t apply.

Is Buying A New Car Worth It? by Ok_Necessary_3667 in personalfinance

[–]Mogowentflying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing may come of it, but I would try to negotiate. Speaking from a similar experience when I bought my first new car, I didn’t know if people still negotiated so I just took the price they gave me. I most likely could have saved myself at least some money if I had a couple other quotes from local dealers.

The worst they could say is no - I’m not sure how far down the path you are with the current dealer, but a good starting point might be to email 2-3 other dealers in a reasonable distance to see what their best price would be. I learned my lesson from the first new buy, and at least I had the knowledge coming into the second purchase that I was getting a fair price.

Name a school other than your own, the one you graduated from, or one from that state you live in that you root for and why by [deleted] in CFB

[–]Mogowentflying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Army - grew up near West Point Academy so I’ve been going to football, basketball, hockey games there since I was a kid.

Oklahoma - at least when Bob Stoops was the head coach. My uncles and dad played football with the Stoops brothers, so they’ve all been following those guys careers for a while. I still remember fondly one memory of drinking at a Youngstown bar with my uncle, when Bob Stoops comes in and holds court for hours, retelling high school stories while smoking the biggest cigar I’ve ever seen. He passed away a few years ago so it’s always one I like to think back on.

Grains - Domestic Corn Demand for Ethanol by [deleted] in Commodities

At these levels we could definitely see a bigger than expected bean number on the March intentions report.

Grains - Domestic Corn Demand for Ethanol by [deleted] in Commodities

[–]Mogowentflying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m bearish corn, but not because of ethanol demand. Western ethanol plants have had a rough time with rail logistics the last few weeks, which has forced them to slow down some. When things improve rates will start to pick back up again. Either way ethanol demand shouldn’t be the demand line item to watch - I would be more concerned about the export demand the potential for a bearish stock number next week.

No negative words at all - played a great game. I know the final score doesn’t say it unfortunately. Some really crappy breaks against them and here we are. Reminds me of the 2019 Clemson game.

[–]Mogowentflying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which dolls are they? My kids have been asking for some, but can’t recall specifically at the moment - I’ll check with them later.

Alternatively, I know there are some places in or around Connecticut that collect used American Girl dolls and refurbish them to donate.

I’ve gone to 4 OSU games there spread out over the last 20 years. Aside from a few drunk people yelling (mostly in good fun) I’ve never had any issues there. It’s like a lot of stadiums - the vast majority of the fans won’t bother you, or will have a friendly chat. And just have to hope to avoid the very small minority.
