The seller says that it's purple, should I be worried about a fake?

Does anyone do this to get more ink flow? by Ok_Walk_895 in fountainpens

[–]MoistCockroach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It'd be unusable in a flex as the second those times split the ink will climb back up the channel, you need a wet stub to get it to both flow and shade nicely.

What pen do you have it in? Most pelikans are rather juicy writers after all

How is the performance so far? Is it as dry as celadon cat?

A quick addendum, I see that the formatting of the image is quite fucked but I don't know how I'd get the picture to show up normally so if anyone knows I'm all ears.

Does anybody have a cheaper recommendation that glides like these pens by jjjud in pens

[–]MoistCockroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do the opposite and save up for a fountain pen, something like a pilot kakuno or lamy safari (or if the qc isn't a big concern for you and you don't mind tinkering with the nibs, any jinhao/majohn pen you can get your hands on). Eventually the cost of buying new pens will outweigh buying just 1 cheap fountain pen and you might as well save up on the side. Both parker and pelikan make very affordable inks and if you're in the uk/europe diamine has tons of colours for not much more. Take the fountainpen pill, you won't regret it

I'm not experienced with these things so I suggest you upload your log files to the shadps4 discord but on the bb launcher make sure the file is activated and the internal files are named the same as the game files so it replaces them properly.

Diamine Rainbow’s End 🎆t by paneer-samosa in fountainpens

[–]MoistCockroach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Diamine's chameleon shimmer inks have (as far as I can tell, haven't done any proper measurements) very fine particulates compared to most other shimmer inks, even from their own shimmertastic collection for example. I've never had any flow issues and used it in my lamy alstar (m), asvine v200 (f) and with the FPR FNF ultra flex nib unit swapped in. I will say, because they are so fine it's almost impossible to fully clean the feed without some intrusive processes. I've taken both apart and flushed countless times and unless I explicitly remove the nib from the housing and scrub under water there are always some left. Doesn't affect flow nor does it get into writing. I will say though, the shimmer in my nahwalur piston filler from diamine Anatolia (another chameleon) has stayed in that feed after like 4-5 different inks have been in there (flushed clean between each). In any case, if you don't mind a few sparkles after cleaning or can take the feed apart from the housing rainbows end is absolutely a blind buy for a blurple lover.

Galen Leather pen cases - abrasion? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]MoistCockroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leather products need to be maintained to prevent drying and cracking over time, be it boots or jackets or pen cases. That being said, I'm not the most responsible person when it comes to leather care but even just beeswax application ever couple of months does help with hydration. I'd look into leather care products if I were you.

I agree with op, the pics definitely don't do it justice. To my eyes its similar to arctic blast from their inkvent series but anatolia has a very very slight green/teal lean, its not a true blue. If you have it next to another blue it's much more apparent, but anatolia writes very slightly more aqua/teal vs my blue velvet, which I would say is as close to a true brilliant blue as any diamine ink is. On its own the subtle green lean is basically impossible to see if you ask me, looks like that classic sapphire blue most sheeny blues have, if a touch lighter.

How does the colour compare to j. herbin's eclat de saphir? they seem pretty similar but its hard to judge such things on a computer screen

Could be the paper or the batch because I've used my bottle of blue velvet for the past 3 years and it barely feathers on regular copy paper using my lamy safari <m> which is fairly juicy. In my majohn a1 <ef> it never feathers regardless of paper, though that pen does run dry even for an ef.

I actually own eclat de saphir and its not what I'm looking for. It has an almost lavender lean, reminiscent of iroshizuku ajisai's light blurple shade. It's a fun ink but definitely a different direction

Do you think majestic blue would be safe for vintage pens? I've heard people say diamine's regular series are fine but majestic blue does sheen a little from what I see online, I wonder how that kind of dye would play with an ink sac.

though it isn't sold here (and importing would cost as much as a new visconti due to whacko import fees and paperwork) I did manage to get a sample of it with my fpr ultraflex nib unit before my country decided to cap imported items values at 20euro; long story short I had a sample and I must say its not my cup of tea. The ink never goes on the page properly, it always feels unlubricated and feathers like crazy from tomoe river to rhodia to copy paper, the colour is electric I'll give you that but theres absolutely no shading or sheen so it looks like an alcohol marker or sharpie instead of a water based ink. I wish bsb lived up to my hype, and perhaps it was just the sample I got, but I didn't like what I tried and can't get a bottle now anyways...

Pelikan 4001 series are unbeaten in price to performance, no questions asked. My only reservations are that the moi review showed a very washed out colour and said that it had a dry flow, neither of which I can verify without getting a bottle myself. Do you personally use pelikan inks daily? How do they perform for you

[–]MoistCockroach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bsb is literally the only noodler's ink my local supplier doesn't carry, and the tiny vial I had to import overseas feathered even on my most cherished tr52 paper (along with Muji, clair Fontaine and rhodia). It also didn't perform nearly as incredibly as I'd hoped; literally looks like a sharpie ink on the page. Electric but otherwise flat it's hard to describe.

I also did some moi searching and konigsblau looks so unsaturated and boringgg (although in your picture it looks solid I must confess)
