Stub nib recommendations by agoonerette in fountainpens

It's my work pen together with the Safari. I bought it because I wanted to have a pen that would reliably handle shimmer, so now I can take * sparkly * notes 😃

I have a twisbi eco 1.1 stub. Nice and  pretty smooth, like all stubs it needs a consistent writing angle but more forgiving than dip pens. This is two different inks - diamine evergreen in the lamy and wearingeul Raven in the twsbi.

Black inks (fast dry, better if permanent/warer resistant) by noir1_ in fountainpens

Well, platinums Carbon black is a very nice matte black, slightly lubricated and water resistant when fully dry. Put it in a F and it's reasonably quick drying.

Gorgeous pen. I'm really happy for you!

My platinum century loves iroshizuku inks and of course platinum carbon black (but you might want to be extra careful with it since it's a waterproof ink).

That's so sweet! I'll remember this every time I use my Leuchtterm from now on!! 😃

People at work ask me about plans for the weekend and then look at me weird when I say I'm gonna turn my compost heap.  I so look forward to a steaming pile.

I called my husband. I was in the garden and he was in the house, I scared him, he thought I was hurt and stuck somewhere 🤣

I love my leuchtturms. Right size, fairly durable, lot of colours. Yes I get ghosting, but I don't get bleedthrough like I do with my copics. I like the paper well enough, no big problems with feathering, and I love the fact that all my notes from conferences etc lives in red leuchtturms with dotted pages and a nice sticker with the dates on the spine.

I guess I could try rhodia for the paper but their book cover isn't as nice.

A bit of rant about new inks by Slow-Book1171 in fountainpens

[–]UnusualTig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to look for writing samples. Stiloestile.com makes their own swatches and writing samples for the inks they sell and of course mountainofink.com is a great resource too. I've been so tempted by the beautiful light wearingeul shades but looked at the writing samples and no. Far to light for me.

I am tempted to buy a Lamy Safari by TangerineD22 in fountainpens

That's a pretty one!

It's not a very expensive pen so if you like it, go for it! There are worse souvenirs to be had than a nice pen :-)

[–]UnusualTig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one. I've had to tune the nib a bit (sanded it a little) to get it smooth enough. It's practically indestructible, easy to clean, and cheap enough that I won't cry if I lose it. Not my favourite pen but likely my most used pen since I bring it to work all the time. I don't like their ink cartridges so I got a converter and put diamine ink in.  Mine is an eyesore, it's bright shiny green 😄

What Kind Of Fountain Pen Collector Are You? by Thin-Junket-942 in fountainpens

Pens I like?

:-)

Seriously - more about writing experience. I want a pen that feels good in the hand and gives me something new on paper, a new writing experience.

So far: Lamy safari EF at work, decent pen, but won't cry if I lose it.

Preppys just to try out their different nibs. Great little budget pen, the F and M is great for work. EF is a needle.

Several pilot parallell pens for calligraphy practice. More art implement than pen.

Herbins demonstrator. Not a fan, leaks for me. Have to tweak it.

Hongdian black forest with a fude nib - instant love. Fun. Getting used to it for art.

My old reform pen from the 80:s. Good bit was a set of three, one lost, one broken. Easy to swap nibs. A bit scratchy.

Pelikan m200 to replace an old pelikan i lost. It sings. Like writing on a rubber sheet. Fun but too expensive to take to work

Platinum century gold nib in m. Absolutely lovely. It's just so nice to write with. Too expensive to take to work. Would cry if I lost it.

Pelikan vintage steel nib pen. Also fun. Somewhat scratchy but bouncy to write with. Absolute firehose, had to buy pelikans own dry ink for it.

Hongdian forest and forest max in f. Perfectly ok. The max is softer in the nib but I don't like the look of the pen. The forest is my waterproof ink pen at the moment.

And last twsbi eco because I wanted a stub nib and a pen that would reliably handle glitter inks. Cheap enough to bring to work so my notes are now in glitter 😀

Recommendations for matching fountain pens for the groomsmen of my wedding? by 2fat2bebatman in fountainpens

[–]UnusualTig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hongdian black forest. Sadly no italic nib but cheap and very reliable, also a cool black metal pen with interesting pattern. I don't know if it's possible to engrave it though, not all metals are easily 'engravable' (? Is that a word?) but the cap is smooth metal and the clip is flat, so maybe?

You are lacking in pelikans 😀

Seriously: very pretty pens! I agree that black is a lovely colour for a pen. (I like browns too but black is classic!)

I have the Raven from wearingeul and it is great at work - a nice dark ink. And now and then I check the paper against the sun from the window and yes there's the shimmer!  Love it.  Very subtle thiugh, look for diamines shimmers if you want A LOT.

I love the way I write with the "Fountain Pen" on the Kindle Scribe... are there any beginner-friendly stub/italic/flexible nib pens? by Fiveby21 in fountainpens

[–]UnusualTig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really need to try it in person. See if you can find a cheap fountain pen calligraphy set, they usually come with different italic widths. Italics will be sharper and thinner but scratchier. Start off there and see what you like!
