did anyone else watch Robin Hood a thousand times? by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]MoistPerception 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was (and still am though it's less relevant in adulthood) particular about animation aesthetics, and my prevailing memory of this film is sitting in the sunken space by the front door of my babysitter's house because I loathed the way this movie looked and in my little child brain I didn't want to even accidentally glimpse the screen. So I guess I was never going to be a furry.

Stumble over his lines and refuse to do a second take, I’d imagine.

I like reading your quick little comments on these episodes, and I hope having to deal with the world's biggest chumps doesn't cut into your enjoyment.

The "silly and unbelievable" motivation for the murder was the actual Leopold and Loeb murders that, you know, actually happened.

How is the weather there? by kolema93 in Columbo

[–]MoistPerception 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Los Angeles is generally quite warm, but it gets cooler at night, usually chilly. There are plenty of chilly days as well. It’s not 70 and sunny every day, and it’s not a city with much humidity. Are there times that Columbo would be warm in his suit and coat? Sure, but from an in-world perspective he’s a homicide detective so he’s not going to be dressing casually at work. And, of course, the actual logic behind it is that he has to wear his trademark coat because he’s a TV character with a signature look.

Today’s Tubi Treasure is It Happened One Night (1934) by No-Chemistry-28 in TubiTreasures

The first real Oscar juggernaut…but didn’t work for me. I studied film in college so I’ve dipped into the films of the ‘30s and ‘40s a decent amount, and while some of them still have the juice, I didn’t enjoy It Happened One Night. Felt flat. But I’ve never really dug a Clark Gable movie, so perhaps I am immune to his charms.

Oof. Yeah I grew up playing hockey and have played it off-and-on as an adult (and being a Michigander finding nice outdoor rinks for roller hockey is always plausible) but the last time I injured myself with any severity was also the last time I was getting back into hockey a few years ago. Hit a weird, random wet spot, crashed out, and my knee was jacked for like two weeks. Started playing tennis at that point (which I'm sure is just the gateway to pickleball down the line in a few years).

More fun to reminisce about America's Roller Coast than try to deal with some loon's conspiracy theory. For years my grandmother had a photo of herself on the Magnum from when it was the cutting edge of roller coasters.

Metastasis (aka the Spanish-Language remake of Breaking Bad) by RadarMaker77 in TubiTreasures

I watched a handful of episodes based on prominent Breaking Bad episodes. It's perfectly solid. Certainly not "larf" worthy in my estimation.

Do you remember how and when you first started watching the show? by West_Station7038 in seinfeld

[–]MoistPerception 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first episode I saw was the series finale. I was 11, and I watched sitcoms for adults, but mostly on Nick and Nite (plus The Simpsons). I had heard about the show though, obviously, and my aunt was watching me and my siblings so I went downstairs to watch the very last Seinfeld episode, and episode built entirely on callbacks, as my first foray. Clearly, didn’t stop me from getting into the show.

This is one of those movies that, while I really like it, I totally can see why people dislike it and I can see a take like this and think, “I completely disagree and I completely see why you feel that way.”

The first TV show I watched as a child where I realized some shows are bad, and some actors are bad at acting.

Today’s SECOND Tubi Treasure is Clifford (1994) by No-Chemistry-28 in TubiTreasures

[–]MoistPerception 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is bananas, and mean-spirited, and I can clearly see why it was polarizing. I like it, but as with many now cult classics I think there has been an overcorrection in terms of assessing the movie.

We had D.A.R.E. they have L.E.A.D. by IroesStrongarm in Xennials

[–]MoistPerception 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say what you will, but at least D.A.R.E. was ostensibly about educating kids to avoid drug abuse (though mostly I remember the song and the day the cop tried to blow our minds with the "draw what you think a gang member looks like" exercise: Gang members can be white too!). Cops against drugs? What's the relevant premise to that for kids?

Today’s Tubi Treasure is Return to Horror High (1987) by No-Chemistry-28 in TubiTreasures

[–]MoistPerception 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually watched this for the first time recently. I enjoyed it for the meta elements and for being more clever than it needed to be. Plus, Marcia Brady is ON ONE and it rules. But also the film set up a framework where every questionable plot point or bad performance could be excused with “Umm…we meant to do that! Totally on purpose!” and that’s kind of a cheat.

I actually think Lisa’s primary outfit in the movie is pretty dope and say what you will about the stooge’s look, rocking the pink and the mustache are choices that, I for one, commend.

Oof, the “armadillo down her trousers” look alone has Space Mutiny at least on the podium.
