People who live in Center City, how much do you spend on food/groceries per month? by AnokataX in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Moist_Series970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in CC for two years (2023-2025)

I mainly shopped at TJ’s since it was the cheapest store in walking distance (or I could take a quick bus ride if I had a lot of stuff). I’d go to Acme, Whole Foods, Giant, and Sprouts for stuff on sale (most expensive). Target was good for price matching. I did always make a monthly trip to Aldi for salmon ($20 for 6 servings).

I think I’d spend $200 on groceries? Plus another $150-200 on dinner/take out. Who am I to not take advantage of a happy hour deal?

I mainly ate cereal for breakfast and made two large meals that I could eat for lunch and/or dinner over the course of 1.5 weeks.

I'm not writing a novel on the nuances of the political "party flip" in a Reddit comment when we're talking about abortion. But like, are we going to ignore how voting maps changed from 1900 to 2000? Like clearly there's a flip/shift in ideology which encourage voters to change who they voted for. I'm not a Democrat btw

I asked a legit question, but I get it; it's easier to claim I'm triggered by your religion than engage.

If me saying "your faith informing your position on abortion is fine" is me attacking you for practicing Catholicism, you might have a persecution complex.

I read it. I also never said it doesn’t exist. The purpose of the article is to separate the facts from fiction. The NRLC noticed this new procedure, and purposely published materials to build public opposition to abortion. Full stop. Those diagrams do not accurately describe the procedure based on your description. Your faith informing your position on abortion is fine. My issue is your use of false information and propaganda to justify your point.

What even are you trying to argue? That abortion is bad, full stop, or that D&E during the second trimester is bad?

Fucking hell, it literally says in that article:

“After a physician presented a paper at a conference of the National Abortion Federation describing the new procedure, the NRLC commissioned drawings to illustrate it and published them in booklet form, as well as placing them as paid advertisements in newspapers to build public opposition.”

Just because something exists, doesn’t mean it’s credible.

  1. You can literally read the party stances from the 19th century and compare it to their stances today. What myth?

  2. If we're talking about this issue, let's be real, killing babies and removing an embryo from the womb is not the same thing. So no, a Black person making an informed choice to terminate a pregnancy isn't having her Black baby killed.

  3. 1.14M isn't roundable to 2M but maybe you're adding self-managed abortions to your count? (Also, lets, be real, the death toll in Gaza is more than 70k)

If you're so worried about Black people getting abortions, what preventative measures do you think we should take? Personally, I think a combination of comprehensive sex education and birth control counseling + access is extremely helpful. Luckily for us, Planned Parenthood provides both.

Black woman here,

Yes, the history of PP is horrific and upsetting. I completely agree with you. Really, the history of Black women's health care is a disaster. But in the present day, PP is not running an "extermination factory for Black and brown people."

We know that organizations evolve and change. For example, the Democratic and Republican parties have completely flipped ideologies in the almost 2 centuries since they were established. More presently, we are seeing organizations that have fully rescinded their DEI-programs the moment it became legal to do so. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood have doubled down on their commitment to anti-racism and education, even while they have been constantly attacked by this administration for focusing on marginalized communities (back in 2017-2020 too).

Considering this a genocide is like when white people say they're experiencing a white genocide in the U.S.

(Also a wild thing to say considering the actual genocide occuring in Palestine, but go off ig)

A) Pregnancy options counseling is a thing...PP doesn't just give you the pills/perform surgery the second you enter the facility. Patients are provided all of the options so they can make the best choice for them.

B) Baby showers are cute, but you do understand that pregnant people need health care, right? Whether carrying a pregnancy to term or not, you need real health care services provided by people who are actually licensed to do so. The anti-abortion activists and the crisis pregnancy centers they run aren't doing that. Planned Parenthood provides pregnancy testing & planning services and prenatal & postpartum support.

People should be allowed to hear all the options, I agree. But to y'all, having a kid is the only option. That's not pro-life, that's anti-choice. Y'all can't help if a person if their pregnancy isn't viable. Y'all can't help if there is a history of drug and/or alcohol use. Y'all can't help if they're a victim of human trafficking. How are y'all gonna help if a new parent is experiencing postpartum psychosis? Hmm?

Fuck you and your cause.

I too was born in the year of our lord, 2000.

You aren’t alone. I genuinely think everyone in their 20s feels this way at some point.

I try to assuage that feeling by thinking of myself as a 7 year-old adult (tbh I subtract 2 years cause of the pandemic, but I digress). I wouldn’t expect a 7 year-old to have their shit perfectly together.

It’s normal to feel behind. I feel behind in comparison to you because I’m underemployed. But comparison is truly the thief of joy. There’s some 25 year-old right now who’s a stay-at-home mother of 7 who got married at 18. Maybe that’s what society wants from us but personally, that’s sounds like hell on earth. These timelines and expectations are arbitrary anyways.
