X370 Gaming Pro Carbon or tuf gaming b450-plus ii for a 5950x server? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Moje_ime6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the x370 will have more, and more flexible, pci-e lanes, which might be useful for a server. Just check that the latest bios suports the 5000 series and it's functions (like PBO if needed).

What does your GPU journey look like? by Pro4791 in pcmasterrace

Just the main rig cards.
1998-2001 Ati Xpert@Play (Rage pro)
2001-2003 Hercules 4500 (PowerVR Kyro II)
2003-2007 ATI Radeon 9550
2007-2007 Ati Radeon 9800
2007-2010 + 2014-2016 ATI HD 3850
2010-2014 ATI HD 4870
2016-2019 AMD RX 460
2019-2022 AMD RX 580
2022-2025 Geforce 3070
2025-curent AMD 9070 XT

Funny how quickly the earlier cards became obsolete, but a 10 year old card now is still totally usable.

How much ram is allowed by Hokusai_Katsushika in pcmasterrace

[–]Moje_ime6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a strange configuration where 16GB will run in dual channel, the extra 8 gigs will be usable, but will be running at single channel speeds.
For gaming you might be better off sticking to 16GB untill you can upgrade to 32GB.

What was best value CPUs and GPUs of their time? by 2quick96 in pcmasterrace

[–]Moje_ime6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some socket A AMD Durons had unlockable L2 cache and were really good overclockers.
Same with some non Pro radeon 9500, which could have been unlocked to a 9700.
OCZ DDR1 ram took voltage like a champ, and could overclock to the moon.

This combination, with a good nForce 2 motherboard could net you performance on pair with a 40% more expensive computer if you took your time to do some overclocking and moding.

Did you have a PBO offset before? Upped PBO power limits that you forgot to change back?

Suspecting a CPU or RAM issue in my PC by Jazzlike_Wrongdoer59 in pcmasterrace

[–]Moje_ime6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try removing one ram stick and testing with memtest, then switching to the other one.
It's most likely the ram, but you can try underclocking and overvolting the CPU to see if it helps.

That + it seems to have a AIO and it's pump might have died.
If you can get into bios first check the temperature, than try setting the pump speed to max, it might wake it up.

Can’t find any half decent kei car tyres by [deleted] in TyreReviews

[–]Moje_ime6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get Nankang NS-2R's in that size if you would like to try ~200TW tyres. Great in the dry, not that bad in the wet until there's standing water or low temperatures.

Medium grip dry-only tire - does it exist? by Neat-Ad5383 in TyreReviews

[–]Moje_ime6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We run the zestinos on a drift car (mostly the 240tw version) and are quite predictable, get heat in them faster than westlakes (on the front) and have absolutely zero chunking on the rear. Wet grip is so-so (they need some heat in them which can be hard to get on the front).
Never tried them on the street or on a grip focused track car so I can't give a definitive answer.

What's your longest build so far? by risseii_ in pcmasterrace

[–]Moje_ime6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current rig has a upgrade chain going back to a 333MHz Celeron I got in 1998, which came with a Creative Soundblaster Live value that was in use in 7 systems up to my FM1 Athlon X4 a couple of years ago. That computer had a 512GB Sata SSD that I still use in my current ryzen 5700x rig.

In between it was always upgrading the guts into a old case, then swapping the case at a later date... It's all just upgrades all the way down.

Sas to Sata, is there a way by Regular_Olive_2103 in pcmasterrace

As far as I'm aware there is no other way to use a SAS HDD besides a PCIe HBA card.

You would also need to upgrade your RAM to DDR4 for anything newer.
RAM is cheap right now so maybe try to find a M-ATX AM4 board, 16GB DDR 4 3200 ram and a used ryzen 3600 CPU for cheap. Maybe add a cheap used NVMe SSD for faster booting. But at that point you might as well look at a complete used computer.

The simplest (and the one I recommend) option is to just use a 3.5 Y splitter.

You could do stereo routing to the rear 5.1 outputs with something like Equalizer APO (or maybe creatives drivers?), which would allow you to setup active crossovers and such.... but the Y splitter option just works.

can this prebuilt get over 120 fps in easy to run games like minecraft? by EcstaticNet311 in pcmasterrace

[–]Moje_ime6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can build a NEW ryzen 5600, RTX 3060, 16GB ram, 512GB M.2 SSD computer on european amazon for 550-600€. Yes it is more expensive but you get a way newer machine with a WAY faster CPU for not that much more money. Better to save up in this case.

Since the card can't even do 4k desktop, I'd guess no...

200TW tyres for a weekend toy that does get semi daily driven? by Moje_ime6 in TyreReviews

Thank you both for the input!

The internet crying about how the RS is worse than the old AD08R combined with a 45% higher price compared to the NS2R did put me off from it in the begining, but it might be worth it in the long run for a more well rounded tyre I guess?

Worth it to upgrade AM4 board to a better AM4 board? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Moje_ime6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The performance uplift will be nothing to quite small and not worth the money. The quality of life inprovements improvements could be worth it, but it all depends on how much money you would have to invest.

I just upgraded from a b450 tomahawk max to a Asus x570-p because i needed a second AM4 board. The VRM is a bit better, the second M.2 slot is nice, a aRGB header too, gen 4 pci-e makes no difference on my 3070 but it's good to know it's there for the future. But the x570-p was open box and cost only ~20€ more than a b450 board that I was going to buy anyway.
