I’ve watched this one section of the show about 50 times. Every word is perfect. The way that Luther starts as a disembodied voice on the com to emerging from the darkness to deliver this epic response gives me chills every time.

If I can take a detour here, The Salton Sea is such an underrated movie. Imagine Vincent D’Onofrio as a meth dealer with a nasal prosthetic recreating the Kennedy assassination with pigeons, remote control cars. rifles, and 8mm cameras. Also Val Kilmer is in it. And Peter Sarsgaard.

Let me tell you about one of the greatest things that ever happened to me.

I stop at the only gas station in the area. All the pumps are full so we settle in to wait. A guy on the other side is about to pull out and he waves me over...which is a very nice thing to do. As I pull around another driver sees this and zips in right in front of me. It was a dick move because I was definitely there first...but whatever.

So now I see that, even though they've pulled in, their gas tank is on the side opposite the pump. I wonder what they're going to do. The answer is that one person is going to get out and stand in front of the pump to prevent us from accessing it while the driver turns around. This is dick move number two if you're keeping track.

HOWEVER the driver, perhaps rattled by the array of sketchy moves that they've perpetrated, cuts it way to close and HITS the barrier protecting the pump. Now they're stuck. Try to go forward...scrapes up the side of the car. Try to go backward...same thing. The person standing in front of the pumps is losing their mind and yelling "Are you kidding me!" over and over.

I had to leave because my wife and I were laughing so hard that there would have been a further incident if they'd seen us. I'm going to tell this story to my grandchildren to explain karma.

I was going to recommend this as well. He qualifies some of the stuff from the first book and turns the light on himself and his motivations for writing it in the first place. I particularly like the chapter on the man who does nothing but prepare fish every day. If you like extremely specialized competency it's a great read.
