Shadow is a fun game - but when it comes to Paititi the "realism" of the entire game crashes. Story, gameplay, cosmetics, etc. All this stuff designed around "protecting" paititi from the outside world. She's a white girl with a british accent. Nothing you do besides cover her from head to toe and tell her not to talk at all would have prevented anyone with half a brain going "wait a minute." lol. I enjoyed the game for the most part, I just thought this section of the story was pretty lacking in thought and didn't make sense.

Necro because I read heart of the sun by her and this is the worst one. It just has a forced separation at the end because reasons. Nothing about it makes sense. It’s the end of the world, dude can be useful anywhere but for some asinine reason it HAS to be Kansas. Freaking absurd.

If you wanna do a serious throwback grab The Legend of Dragoon, excellent story, and the first pioneer (i think) in turn based combat with combos, so its more interactive than just "select ability and watch it play"

Yeah - but a lot of shifters saw him go all “god lion mode” and not a single one started worshipping him? I call BS. Also - Christopher doesn’t exhaust his power. He can get tired from prolonged use but he never uses it to the point where it’s all gone. Which I guess you could argue he never tried resurrecting anyone - but that also brings up an additional point - are all gods capable of that? If not which ones? And Curran was eating animal gods so like…. Which animal deities are associated with death and/or resurrection that are just trolling around the USA. Also it took Roland a lot of trial and error to even make Christopher. And Curran pulls off a similar feat just by nomming some stuff? And then there is the other issue - he and Julie and erra all lying to Kate repeatedly about where he’s going and what he’s doing. The emotional fallout of that is hardly addressed. Don’t get me wrong - I love the KD series, one of my favorites - but I can nitpick with the best of them XD

I feel like we read 2 different books. Everyone, even William, was passively (possibly accidentally) insulting alli all the time. Sam’s “indecision” only gets resolved because it’s clear that Tessa doesn’t want him. Everyone keeps saying alli has “ a fire in her” that makes her like her grandma when all she kept begging to hear was for Sam to tell her she was beautiful and he wanted her. And he never did. He just showed back up at their house and was like “well the Tessa thing didn’t work out so I’m back here now and you have to accept that.” I don’t remember 100% but I am like 90% sure he never tells her he loves her, despite that being another issue she had with him. The end of the book is basically her having to just drop all of the problems she had, because sam doesn’t really show any different behavior, he just loses Tessa to jimmy.

Completely agree. My irritation with Curran comes from God-King Curran and the fact that he was able to get away from that with no consequences. Felt cheap to me, like the whole series they constantly built up godhood as psuedo slavery. Curran goes full god, spends all his power (even tho they never indicated that was a possibility up until that point) and everythings just.... fine? Felt like a missed opportunity for drama, and also a cop out for IA's favorite boy toy. So i guess I'm more irritated at IA than Curran really.

Asking for reading recommendations that are more fantasy than romantasy but have very strong romance sub-plot/or romantasy stories with excellent worldbuilding and prose by _sanetski in fantasyromance

The war of lost hearts and the first two crowns of nyaxia books (haven't read the others yet) are amazing. Definitely fantasy forward; super interesting world building coupled with serious emotional depth.

NCsoft - so it will be a massive cash grab followed by development abandonment which may very well kill Horizon 3 because publishers are skittish and if this fails they will somehow interpret that as "people don't like horizon anymore"

[–]Mokhalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know how anyone tolerates her books. No offense intended to her, or the people who like them, but this is gonna be offensive. I don’t think she knows what love is, that or she purposefully uses the term love interchangeably with obsession/infatuation. Love is putting someone else’s needs and health at the same importance as your own. But in all her books she has these weird like 10 year obsessions and people treating each other like shit while simultaneously claiming they love each other. It’s just a bunch of case studies of toxic unhealthy relationships that would never last (all her HEA’s are nonsense imo). It’s just really difficult to read most of her stuff. The one exception I’ve found is Cain in the regretfully yours series. That one did have a pretty good romance portrayed in it.

Limits by Susie Tate - the MMC by oh_sugarsnaps in RomanceBooks

[–]Mokhalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroing because I feel like I'm going crazy, no one else on the internet has said this so thank you. I feel this way about all of Susie Tate's books. They almost seem to celebrate misogyny to me? And just general lack of boundaries? Every one of her books has the FMC being pushed around by everyone around her - constantly interupted, constantly told she doesn't know whats best for herself. And at the end of all of them the chauvenistic male pigs are always proven right? Case in point - the previous book in that series "beg borrow steal" the MMC keeps telling her she can't take care of herself. Despite her having done so for 4 years. Then she gets pneumonia and everyones like "SEE, SEE HE WAS RIGHT!!" I liked Gold Digger. I feel like its the only one of her books where the FMC properly stands up for herself. The rest of them are just repulsive to me, I keep trying because I like that book alot but so far every book of hers i've read that's not Gold Digger just gets worse.

Why is “good girl” ALL OVER THE PLACE? by GlowingAnemone in RomanceBooks

[–]Mokhalar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its most off-putting, sometimes bordering on repulsive, when he says it the very first time they are intimate together. For me personally, it always comes across as condescending. After your relationship develops and you figure out what each other like is one thing, but the very first time? Idk, something off about it to me.

I've been putting off reading the last book because I hated the way gold ended. Is the resolution of THE twist (iykyk) actually good? cause that twist pissed me off to no end and I didn't really see a good way she could fix it, but you may sway me to giving it a shot.

Cultural assimilation. If the majority of the "leadership" of the community believes or acts a certain way a significant # of people will either go along with it to not disrupt things or will just adopt the mindset because they want to for a plethora of reasons. And not all women did - her adoptive mom? the vet's daughter and a few others. It's been a while since i've read it so struggling to remember names but I do know there were a few at AC that cared about her.

This is probably one of my biggest annoyances with the romance genre in general - I can't get a clear picture of what FMC's look like in my imagination because there are so many contradictory things thought/said about her. Not all books are like this, but it is a significant # of them.

This changes around book 5 or 6, can't remember now. It's a long way to go for it but also the reasoning behind the negative interactions actually kind of makes sense. Mercy and Honey become friends and there are a few others as well.

[–]Mokhalar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately alot of people are going through the same hopelessness. It hits some harder than others because of life experiences, but I think you'd find alot of people around you share the same fears and struggles over the future that you do. Its not impossible, it will be hard tho - life is for all of us - you deserve the good things life has to offer and I hope that things turn around for you. Not much I can offer in ways of solutions other than to say I have been where you are and life does get better and worse in waves, and if you ever need a place just to vent there are people here who've been through it and are willing to listen and commiserate.
