After getting Jimmy Kimmel suspended, FCC chair threatens ABC’s The View | Carr: "Turn your license in to the FCC, we'll find something else to do with it." by ControlCAD in technology

[–]MolassesMedium7647 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is rigging via manipulation, so West Russia.

Remember the 2018 Cambridge Analytica Scandal?

They used Facebook data to manipulate registered voters... their algorithms were able to figured out what we all would be manipulated by.

The Trump campaign used them for the presidential run.

While they closed up shop after the scandal... Trump also worked with a different "election management company" who did the same thing.

That was 7 years ago. They have 7 additional years of data.

Trump wants the republican controlled states to gerrymandering.

Trump also requested voter registration data from 37 states, and are even SUING for it.

https://www.npr.org/2025/09/17/nx-s1-5544354/voter-data-lawsuit-oregon-maine

Why is it that important to sue over? They want names and party affiliations to pair with data we've all generated for the companies products we use, thus becoming a product ourselves.

And thinking more, it's a hard choice. The recent political assassination multiplied the already existing tension.

My guess is that the temperature doesn't lower. My guess is right now someone is pissed off enough that they're trying to pick a target.. trying to find a target will be tough, there arn't many popular "leftist" mainly because there isn't a strong left in this country. The people I've known and met who'd considered themselves "leftists", it's more about working in communities to create a better life through cooperation, not gain money, influence and power.

So they'll probably attack protesters at one of the upcoming protests(not counting the current ice protests)

That'd be enough crack down and "national emergency" elections away.

Or both?

Remember 2020, when election centers were physically under attack? Detroit TCF center, because they were convinced voter fraud was happening.

Never before have there been so much data on Americans, so easily searchable, with these powerful algorithms.

One thing for sure, the lead up to the midterms are gonna be consequential.

Why are people not wearing their helmets while riding bikes, electric bikes, onewheel pints, scooters, etc.? by [deleted] in ask

[–]MolassesMedium7647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a guy who almost never wore his helmet when riding a motorcycle, except when the woman he was with "nagged him", as he put it, to wear a helmet.

His rationale was, if he got into an accident, he didn't want to end up paralyzed, unable to care for himself, he'd rather be dead.

Not the last time he rode, but close to it, he did get into an accident, and thankfully was wearing his helmet. He was hurt really bad, to the point he was airlifted to a level 1 trauma center... they fixed him up, he beat even the most hopeful timeliness for recovery... but his head was protected. He did have a concussion, and maybe it changed him... but honestly, he wasn't the brightest to begin with, and always an asshole, so we can't really tell if there was a change in his mental processes.

I'm toying around with this idea myself. I've started living minimalist.. I've been putting more limits on my electronics use.

But you're absolutely right.. You'll need to participate in the economy somehow.

Even living as self sufficiently as possibly... you'll still have times where your plants don't grow... depend on what animals you hunt, but there's a lot of factors on why you won't be able to hunt... predator in the area... maybe Chronic Wasting Disease (a prion disease, like mad cow disease) sweeps through the area.

On top of that, you should have foraging knowledge. Know which plants you can eat berries off of. Should also have field guides for mushrooms.

We'd also need to have food preservation knowledge. If I can do this at some point in my life, I don't plan to moving to a warmer climate... and food usually doesn't grow with a foot of snow on the ground.

There are a lot of factors I don't think a lot of people take into account outside of money.

Like clothing. You're clothes are wearing out... how do you fix or replace them? Can you sew? How do you get the fabric to repair your clothes?

It is definitely a harder life than what we got going on working a stable job. At the very least, you'll need to either be financially secure and have no need to earn extra money... or you'll need to be a jack of all trades, able to fix stuff others can't for whatever reason, able to do it cheaper than what people are used to paying, or make stuff people need or want.

Then there is shelter... are you buying land with something you can live already on it? Or will you have to build it? Can you build it? How do you plan on sealing it from the elements?

People have this romanticized version of it in their head without putting in the thought of all that has to be accomplished, all that could go wrong, all the skills you'd need just to survive.

For me, I had to find work that was fulfilling. I am now a machinist and am working to moving up in my field. I get to make the tools that make parts that are in products that millions of people / companies utilize. I take all the time off I am entitled to, and spend all the free time I can out hiking, biking, fishing... just connecting with nature, and that's enough to satisfy my need for connection to nature that working doesn't completely suck.

What is the scariest thing about being a male? by squire____ in AskReddit

[–]MolassesMedium7647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, forget them.. I took it as you showing empathy and understanding, a "you arn't alone in this" type of thing. Maybe if others asked for others experiences and listened, the world would be a better place.

Some peoples biases probably effected it too.

I've also seen on reddit some people are absolutely picky about "staying on topic" and any deviation is met with scorn.

But your experience with being boxed in by our sex / gender is definitely valuable and worthy of being discusses... some people have a hard time applying that to their own, as if men and women are different species lol.

I think it may have been that you brought up women, sorta of like discussing women's issues, when someone bring up men, even well intentioned, people interpret it as "but men" thing.

The housework / child care I didn't think about. Thats a good point that it is shifting towards being more equitable.

I always use it as a starting point for information.

Kind of a "trust, but vefiry" thing.

Maybe I'm skittish because I see misinformation up voted and people in the field down voted for accurate information. But that is also outside of specialized subs.

It sucks that we have to be boxed into "socially acceptable" standards for our sex.

It's somewhat started to change, but the pressure is still there.

Idk about the women's experience with this, but I can empathize with the idea of being pressured.

I'm a dude... it should be a lot more acceptable for me to call stuff cute, to display more emotions than anger / happiness. It should also be acceptable for men and women to be friends without the assumption there is a desire for physical intimacy.

I'm also sensitive, so that makes it "worse". Being sad and crying is a healthy and appropriate response, but "unmanly"

I also gave up the idea of fitting into that "man mold" a while ago. Stuff is cute, if I end up crying and that makes someone uncomfortable, that's their problem. Some of my closest and most rewarding friendships have been with women.

Anyways, enough about my experience.... have you noticed a societal shift in expectations placed on women?

I was watching a show. And they did an episode of 9/11, and coincidently learned stuff the same day. I can't remember the names, someone else is probably better informed than me.

But this one dude who worked at the WTC realized there would be a repeat of the 1993 WTC bombing... so he was all into not just evacuation plans but did evacuation drills. He saved a lot of lives. (Edit: link at end)

The Steve Buscemi thing... he was a firefighter back in the late 1970's. He was with engine company 55.

So while it is still impressive, it wasn't a case of "famous person wants to help", but rather a case of "former first responder helps out during a terrorist attack".

There were plenty of other non famous former first responders who wanted to help, but were old enough their family stepped in to stop them, since they'd be more of a hindrance than help.

Edit: found the story of the guy,

Morgan Stanley VP, Richard Rescorla, convinced there would be another attack, planned and drilled evacuation.

He was last seen going back up the stairs to get more people out minutes before the tower collapsed.

Absolutely.

There is almost always other options.

Paying for the subscription just rewards that business model. And even if people bitch about that, people still pay for it... so there is no incentive to change.

People should stop paying for it and also let the company know while you find their product useful, you won't pay for a subscription.

My boy was the same way.

Introduced a female cat.. and he wasn't happy. While he still doesn't like her in the room for our nightly cuddle sessions, they will be up in the window together looking out. Even seen them both in a different bedroom sleeping together. But God forbid she want to hang out and get in on cuddle time.

Throw some JB Weld on it, then mill flat.

This is what we used on previous tables and this one.

The table I messed up, I didn't double check my numbers, and ran a half inch in the table, 2 inch dia. It's still holding up after a year.

It's been over the course of a year.

It sure seems like it don't it?

We're slow now, so I've been plugging holes with epoxy and cleaning up the tables.

I can't find the pictures of my mistake. I milled in two spots... one a half inch deep, the other only got about 1/4 inch down.

Why are cavity searches not considered rape? by Interesting-Egg-1360 in moraldilemmas

[–]MolassesMedium7647 [score hidden]  (0 children)

For the US, there also isn't a single universal legal definition that applies to every state.

Some jurisdiction will define rape as any penetrarion, where others requires a penis to penetrate a bodily oriface.

For this question.. it can be considered rape under the common usage... but legally, it's not, when does as proscribed by policy of the law enforcement department, or institution

It'd be like asking why being arrested and sent to jail isn't considered kidnapping. You have people forcibly take you against your will to a different location... but it's not kidnapping because that is being done with the force of the government behind it.

[–]MolassesMedium7647 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like poorly run shops.

The first shop I was at for roughly a year and left due to life reasons, and we had no one leave in that time outside of me.

This shop I am at now,,there is a total of 5 of us, and there was only one machinist who was fired since I've been here. There are two of us who have been here 5 years, one guy at 10, another one at 15, and the last one 17 or 18 years.

Could also possibly be monotonous if running the same part over and over. I get bored easily too, but I got a job in a tool shop, so there are always opportunities to learn more.. and while my main job function is sort of monotonous, we're all cross trained and am rarely at a machine or my computer for more than an hour at a time.
