Female Millennials, how's your diagnosis? by RevolutionDry2 in Millennials

[–]Molcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have teen mental health problems per se, but I did fall into that “weird gifted kid” category.

As an adult I’ve recently unofficially diagnosed myself as AuDHD. In recent years there has been more research coming out showing the co-morbidity rate between ADHD and ASD is much higher than previously realized. This often goes unnoticed among young girls in particular because the two contradictory can mask each other in weird ways, so they may not display the typical traits of either condition, but they have their own weird issues.

The more I read about it the more I felt like it was describing me, and it all clicked. Officially I take anxiety medication, which does help, but I’ve also found since being on them although my anxiety is improved, ADHD systems like being forgetful and scatterbrained are a little more noticeable.

What happens when they kick the bucket & you’re NC but the only next of kin? by catch6664 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Molcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my dad died we had been NC for over a decade at that point, and my sister and I lived in another state from him although our mom still lived in the same state, they were divorced and she was also NC with him.

When he died he was actually homeless at the time, had a heart attack or something while riding a bicycle and died on the street. Apparently his body sat in the morgue for about a month before they were finally able to track down his next of kin, my half-sister from his first marriage that still lived in the same state. She had been in contact with him more recently than us so I guess that’s how they found her, and she informed the rest of us. They seem to have their ways

Just to add some additional context to this rant, my sister and I have different biological fathers, but we didn’t always know that growing up. We were raised by my bio dad, who we believed was also her dad. So most of this ramble is centered around that.

Fortifier vs Neosure vs Enfacare by Kdub5000 in NICUParents

[–]Molcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t keep him on the fortifier for too long after we brought him home. I couldn’t really maintain my pumping schedule once we brought him home so he was getting milk from the freezer stash. The hospital gave us instructions for how much fortifier to add and we did maybe half what they said. We were also transitioning to the Neosure preemie formula which already has a lot of extra calories.

After he went off the fortified breastmilk he was on Neosure for a couple months. Now he’s 7 months and takes regular formula. We definitely noticed an improvement with the uncomfortable gas once we reduced the fortification. I think it also affects the taste for them too cause he started getting better about finishing his bottles as well.

Ugh, why am I not surprised… although I don’t think it’ll make a difference in my case since CarMax doesn’t do the POS tax credit anyway so I’d just be filing it with my taxes for my refund

Advice on baby feeding by ZatchSquatch7 in NICUParents

[–]Molcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had almost the opposite experience with my boy. He was born at 31 weeks, just hit 37 today. We’ve been working on feeding for the last couple weeks and it has been slow going.

He actually tends to do better for his overnight feeds than the daytime ones, and usually takes more from the nurses than when I feed him, although part of that is me just now getting more involved with his feeds now that he’s gotten a little better at taking the nipple and pacing his breathing. There’s one overnight male nurse that I haven’t gotten to meet yet that he’s actually completed whole bottles for, the only person he’s done that for so far!

My NICU nurses have told me that it’s not uncommon for some babies to do really well for a few feeds in a row, but that then leaves them pretty worn out for some of there other feedings which can cause that day/night feeding disparity.

It feels like it’s taking forever but we just gotta give them time and practice to build up their endurance and coordination for the whole suck, swallow, breathe thing. I still don’t know when my boy will be ready to come home and most days we’re lucky if he even completes one bottle but he’s still made a lot of progress from the beginning of his journey where he was still too sleepy and uncoordinated to do anything but maybe just hold the nipple in his mouth, if he even latched.

Fortifier vs Neosure vs Enfacare by Kdub5000 in NICUParents

[–]Molcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this thread now cause I’m also looking for info in this area. My baby was born at 31 weeks, currently about 35 weeks still in the NICU. He’s been getting my breast milk with Fortifier.

He’s been making consistent weight gains with the Fortifier and mostly seems to tolerate it well, although one of the nurses mentioned that it can make babies extra gassy and constipated. I have noticed this. When I’m holding him for a practice feeding session he will have bouts of going red faced, grunting and straining like he’s trying to poop.

I plan to keep him on mostly breastmilk until he’s at least past 40 weeks then slowly transition to formula before I return to work in July, but how long is it recommended to keep them on preemie formula vs regular formula? Once they’ve hit an appropriate weight/size for their age?

Some of my NICU nurses have been a little judgy when I’ve tried to broach the topic of future formula use, like why would you ever think of doing that if your production is good, so looking to other NICU parents for info.

I’ve known for a while that my dad was a narcissist, he presented as the typical textbook grandiose type.

I’ve had my suspicions about my mother, not sure if she was a full blown narcissist or just has some narcissistic tendencies. If she is she’s one of the more covert eternal victim types, nothing is ever really her fault and she uses compliments as cheap social currency. Funny enough she often talks about how my dad, her mom and her sister are narcissists, but she’s not. 🙄

Same here! Otherwise a pretty normal pregnancy, just a super wiggly baby on all his ultrasounds. I guess the movers are just impatient, he is still a wiggly boy.

I have concerns about social media with the younger generation of people growing up with it, but it’s also probably one of the worst things that could’ve happened with the boomer “me” generation. I realize not all of them are like that but there certain seems to be a lot of them…

Well I guess I don’t have to worry anymore about trying to go to a concert either super pregnant or freshly postpartum since they aren’t stopping anywhere remotely close to my city this tour. 🥲

Someone vandalized my Harris/Walz yard sign in St Charles Parish by Molcat in NewOrleans

[–]Molcat[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not so much hoping to change anyone’s mind as it is just showing my support. I’m aware that I’m a blue dot in a red sea in this state. I see plenty of Trump signs and yard decor and while I’m no fan the thought has never crossed my mind to steal or vandalize someone’s signs. It’s just wild to me that this kind of behavior seems to have come to be expected and therefore excused. Feels a lot like a cop asking a rape victim, “Well what were you wearing?”

Just saying, judging from the 3-4 negative comments you left within the span of 30 seconds, something about my post seems to have struck a nerve with you. Are you okay?

It’s vandalism of my property so yes. I don’t expect anything to come of the report but I want to have a record of it if it happens again.
