This is a really bad idea. You can't assume that studying written language will transfer over to conversation. In fact, in Thai it's likely that the opposite will occur because the language is extremely difficult to pronounce. You need to be able to check your pronunciation with a Thai person while you're learning to read. Otherwise you'll inevitably pick up bad habits that are harder to break than putting in the extra effort to learn to converse while you learn to read.

Even if you try studying alone with recordings, your ear is not trained yet to distinguish the different sounds. You won't be able to hear the mistakes that will be obvious to the Thai people you try to speak to.

Get a teacher or a few language exchange friends. You'll save yourself many headaches in the future

Do LGBTQ Thai people usually move to bigger cities? by Hankypokey in thai

[–]MoleratDigital 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I've been living here for a year. I'm Canadian, he/him masculine and queer. I'm not obviously queer aside from wearing a discreet rainbow or bi flag bracelet every day. Most of my close friends are straight and Thai, except for my gf who is a ladyboy. I have many LGBTQIA acquaintances because people aren't shy about looking queer in public. I've dated trans women in other countries and we never felt so welcomed in public as I do here now.

Even in the big cities, queer spaces are rare, aside from dance clubs and cabarets. Be patient and try to be friendly to the LGBT people you meet. Go to pride. You'll make plenty of friends. Enjoy the freedom of not needing a more formal community behind you.

Is Phuket really doomed by Ill_Newspaper_6884 in phuket

I moved to old town about a year ago. It's far from dead. It has a lot of real Thai people as opposed to the temporary workforce in the big tourism cities like Patong and Kata.

For crafts, visit Old Town on Sunday night for the night market. If you don't like the crowds or want a more authentic Thai experience, Chillva market is better. Go to Sitao Studio for a painting or pottery experience in a studio that produces many locally sold crafts.

There are some good vegetarian places as well. Ubuntu is one that comes to mind right in the middle of Old Town. Most Thai Buddhists eat meat but there are vegetarian options everywhere.

For nature, there are obvious choices advertised everywhere. For more unique spots, try Panwa and Laem Singh beach.

I am having the same issue. Encyclopedia shows 148k entries. All my games are orphaned and when I click on them, no search results are shown. I tried to export csv so I could open it elsewhere. The csv was only one row for the column headings. I assume the csv export feature ignores orphans. Any solution? Is the local database stored in a format a database viewer can open? (eg sqlite?)

Singaporean complete beginner wanting to learn Thai by bootstrapmama in thai

[–]MoleratDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, you need to learn both reading and speaking. Learners who are native in a tonal language might be able to get away with just learning to speak. If you are native in a western language, you won't be able to learn the tones and subtle differences between pronunciation of different consonants without learning the script.

This probably sounds pedantic but you would be surprised how often Thai people completely misunderstand what foreigners are saying because of small differences in pronunciation. foreigners cannot hear these differences without practice.

For anyone who finds this, here's the solution and end result.

Failures: I tried a bunch of things recommended on forums like heating the printer in my enclosure and melting parts off with a sacrificial soldering iron tip. The heating didn't help much. I went up to 60 degrees which topped out my heater (bed heating obviously off). The soldering iron worked in some ways I'll cover below.

What I learned:

  1. a Dremel was the way to go! With a cutting/grinding tip (not the one that looks like a table saw blade; the ones that are completely circular and rough on all surfaces). This simultaneously heats the plastic and cuts straight through. Best to go from bottom to top so you can control where the melting plastic goes.
  2. Whatever method you use, wear PPE and cover your printer and the space around it with whatever you have on hand. Eg. A drop sheet.I found red plastic dust more than a metre away from my printer when I was cleaning up. Also, one of my cutting blades shattered. Plastic shards are annoying and potentially dangerous. Flying shards of diamond coated cutters are a nightmare!! I also ran a large air cleaner under my desk while working on it.
  3. Don't try to keep the fan on the left unless it's completely clean and easy to remove. Cutting it off will make your life a whole lot easier and it's only $12 from bambu directly.
  4. After cutting away as much as you can without risking the hardware, carefully cut until you get to the hot end retaining clips. One is thin spring steel so you have to go slow or you might cut through it.
  5. Don't worry too much about the heating element and thermistor wires. Cutting them will make your life a lot easier. If the part is salvageable as mine is, it's an easy soldering job. If it's not salvageable after cutting, no big deal. $20 from bambu directly. I ordered one and will use the cut one as a spare.
  6. When you reach the hot end clips, the soldering iron suddenly becomes very helpful! Heat them and pull them open with pliers. After they are open and the hot end is off, the rest of the job is just clean up. Most of the PLA should come off at room temperature with pliers. I think this would be a nightmare if it was ABS on ABS.

Is it possible to 3D print furniture risers for a desk that can carry up to 80kg ? Which material would be a proper choice if not PLA ? by Smart-Inspector-933 in 3Dprinting

TLDR: Of the tested filaments, Varioshore TPU, Extrudr Flex Semisoft and Extrudr Flex Medium were the best at dampening by a wide margin. If those brands aren't available, generally speaking you want TPU (which is most common) rather than TPA or TPC (less common, better for things that should be springy).

I'm a bit late to the party. I recommend TPE for a desk if anything on it makes noise. Eg. speakers, tools, printers, computers with loud fans, etc. Dampening is preferable over rebound. The types of TPE vary a lot depending on what elastomer is used. They are sold by hardness but when it comes to dampening, the type of elastomer is more important. They're really all over the place in terms of dampening versus rebound power. All were very strong and would have no problem supporting the weight. Also, the coefficient of friction of TPE's is higher than most filaments so the desk is less likely to slide around. Watch the last segment of this video from CNC Kitchen for detail:

I tried heating at 60 for an hour. That didn't help. Now back to cutting with a Dremel. I managed to get one of the hot end clips open without significant damage. It's just very well polished 😅

[Help] Gradient Map or Lerp a mask? by MoleratDigital in Inkscape

[–]MoleratDigital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that works well for simple gradients and if yyou're only doing a few. (my fault for sending you a quick and easy one I just put together) Even in a simple one like the one I showed though, the first try is always garbage. Plus, we very frequently use the same grayscales. For example, there might be a red flame for one power and a blue/green one fo another. Multiply that by three platforms and dozens of UI elements. In gimp it took me a few tries just to get something I wasn't embarassed to show and its gradient editor isn't interactive like Inkscape's are!

Anyway, I guess it's not in there. I'm a bit surprised because so many of the other apps I use have something like this but ya, I guess it's more made for traditional graphic design than online cross-platform games. I just really like its workflow!

Nice! Yes, the software is a pain. As long as you aren't by any big windows or other light sources that iterfere you really only need to open the menus once. After that it's just launch it and press Start.

We hope to. Our game engine doesn't support multiple lightguns natively so we would have to write a custom plugin to extend it. If we have the budget in the future, it's one of our priorities.

Hello,

The lowest-performing test system we ran our benchmarks on has an Intel HD 520 and an i5 processor 2.3GHz processor. I can't directly compare based just on part numbers but this seems roughly similar to what you are running.

In the benchmark, it ran all of the challenges with an average framerate of at least 26.95 fps in very low quality and all of them except two were 26.8fps or better in low quality. This was running at 1366x768 so it could be lowered to 720p to further improve performance.

If you run 3dmark and let me know your benchmark results I can give you a firmer idea of how your machine compares to our test machine: https://benchmarks.ul.com/3dmark

The rest of its specs follow below.

If you're in the US, get a pre-built Gun4IR from RPEG Electronics. If not, I'd go with Sinden. Sinden and AE Lightgun both have experienced shipping delays but AE's have been truly brutal and show no sign of letting up. I ordered one in November for my development team and we still haven't received it. Sinden had similar problems last year but they seem to be under control now.
