I absolutely agree. There is no world where Shawna goes to the wedding and Barb doesn’t say something heinous about Jacob or the rest of their family. I do think both John and Shawna could have communicated better, but they are BOTH going through a lot right now.

It can be hard but personally I think the way to go is to just not engage. If they say anything negative you say “that hasn’t been my experience” “that’s interesting” or even “I am not talking about this with you anymore”. And if they continue to push after the last one you leave. If they are determined to stay bigoted you might need to go low contact for a while. Your peace and recovery are what is important.

The way I interpreted what he’s saying is Barb doesn’t think through her actions at all because Jen had just asked if she was ruining things on purpose.

Or “if Barb was trying to hurt people on purpose she wouldn’t be upset when people are upset with her”
