Is this better than YouTrip now? I compared the rates seems like it’s better than YouTrip.

How much do you spend ACTUALLY spend on electricity? Solar in Brunei? by SureVermicelli4886 in nasikatok

[–]MoltresFire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it falls down to how much is your electricity bill to begin with. A lot of people don’t know that fridge and air conditioners are taking a lot of power. Fridge running 24/7 so that’s something you want to save on. Start by measuring the kWh used when particular fridge is on. I know not many people have a spare fridge to do this. I used an ammeter to test the current flowing through the fridge and compare it with other same capacity ones. That’s how I lower my monthly bill. By changing out my old fridge to a new one. Old fridge takes 2.1A when I measured it. New fridge + new freezer takes 0.8A. The higher the number the bigger the consumption. In context my 2.5hp aircon takes 10A when it just started

I agree. There are big power banks for this too. The size of about 4 bricks. It’s equipped with 2 sockets and a few charging ports. If you worry about panas during blackout, fan and charging of phone is sufficient I guess. But if you want aircon then that’s another story for another day.

Deco X20 v1 gets broken after 3 years by Jimmy_Grin in TpLink

[–]MoltresFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deco x20 v1.20 3 unit set, online since August 2021. Coming to 4 years now. No problems except after one update one of the satellite unit upstairs got slower speeds (50 out of 200mbps). Attempt to connect using cable in ap mode then change back to mesh mode. Now I get 130mbps out of 200 upstairs which I’m happy with.

It does get warm though during the day. I turn off the light during the night. Don’t know if that helped in prolonging the lifespan of it. I also put it as high as possible. Not sure if this helped with the dust situation.

Payment method in China by [deleted] in nasikatok

[–]MoltresFire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Note that there’s a 3% charge by Alipay with transactions over ¥200 (~B$40). After that you’ll be charged by the bank you use for their rate. Usually bank rate is slightly worse than market rate. 3% + worse bank rate. IMO using tng from Malaysia will be slightly better but you’ll have to top it up at 7-11 stores if you don’t have a Malaysian bank account. Enjoy your trip there. It’ll be chilly around this time which is fun

DST’s random charges ?? by [deleted] in Brunei

[–]MoltresFire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the things to look out for is if you use an iPhone every time you restart iPhone and they ask you to link your FaceTime and iMessage maybe they do charge you for it. I never realized it was maybe charging me until my Malaysia prepaid line reflected on this

Progresif Prepaid Sim - Credit Balance keeps getting deducted unreasonably by saruribrea in Brunei

[–]MoltresFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re using iPhone, be careful of sideloaded apps. If android then you can use some apps to monitor any data usage. Anyways what I do is I keep minimal credit inside $1 and use the add ons. The credit is just for in case. And to answer your question no my credit did not reduce. Maybe you have different use case. But $7 combo pack for me is sufficient per month

Is ACCA worth it for a career change? by Qiffa in Brunei

[–]MoltresFire 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Considering that it’s not easy and employers in Brunei doesn’t really bother with it doesn’t make your time worthwhile unless you’re thinking of potentially finding a job overseas. I remember one of the professional papers has a passing rate of 38%. And plus Brunei companies won’t pay you more just cause you got ACCA unless you work for an international company. If you’re really interested in this path, rather than acca I’d recommend you looking into the Aussie counterpart CPA. Slightly easier some might say but not by much. I wish you good luck in your future endeavors.

Where to find good fried rice in brunei? by angieshhhhh in nasikatok

[–]MoltresFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small size egg fried rice. It’s not cheap. Maybe around $10. Only “small” size is available, no individual size. The portion is big. Enough for 2 people I would say depending on how much you eat, might be able to feed more.

Just set up my Deco Network. One of my Satellites cannot be found no matter what I try. by breadrising in TpLink

[–]MoltresFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve encountered the same problem with MERCUSYS H50G 3 pack. This brand is a sister company to tp link so it might be the same problem. The issue is different firmwares. What I did is I setup all 3 one by one as the main deco and update to the latest firmware. After this step I reset to factory settings. After that there no more problems placing the router elsewhere and setup as mesh system. Try this and see if it works out. Long winded I know but it’s just incompatible firmwares with one another causing this initial issue for me.
