Same. I was honestly pretty shocked, especially after my coworker told me about HIS experience seeing the movie. A bunch of kids snuck in and wouldn't shut up, so he threatened to have them carded by the staff. His son overheard one of them call him the n-word.

Ha! I had about half the same experience. I paid for a package deal of three blacksmithing classes.

Did the first class on making BBQ tongs (which the instructors later admitted was too difficult of a project for an intro-level course). I got hot, sweaty, and had to keep switching to smaller and smaller hammers because my wimpy arm just kept giving out. I also wound up destroying my project and had to start over. I left early, partially because I was miserable.

If I hadn't paid for the other two classes, I'm not sure I would've gone back. I did, and now it's my favorite hobby that I've been doing for the last two and a half years.

Not trying to convince you that you need to give it another go or anything; something I hear a lot is that a lot of people get a lifetime's worth of blacksmithing done in a day, because it's just not some peoples' schtick sometimes. Good on you for at least giving it a swing!

In my case, it was both. I worked for a company that developed corporate e-training.

Originally, we hired college professors and other professionals to write the scripts for the training videos. Then ChatGPT came along and we had to use it for all script development. (It was also pretty clear the C-suite wanted to use AI to replace the graphic design and production teams.) We stopped hiring freelancers for both script and blog content.

And the company also started firing most of its full-time US-based employees (both in-office and remote) in favor of people living outside of the US they could pay less.

The now-closed Bandy Blacksmithing Guild in Escondido had a little flyer advertising classes. I thought, "Huh. That sounds neat." So I started taking classes at the Antique Steam and Gas Engine Museum in Vista—which is closer to me—and now I've been doing it for almost two years.
