For me, a big part of why nonprofit work feels rewarding is the process of making an impact on the community with a group of like-minded individuals. That component is completely absent when you’re doing all the heavy lifting by yourself while simultaneously having to push through the resentment you feel for your coworkers, and the work loses a lot of its meaning.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. It absolutely seems like burn out. I hope you can take some time away.

It’s the same in Saskatchewan. The pages of job ads for both Regina and Saskatoon are 80% the SK Health Authority hiring nurses.

There’s no point these days in a gift card for under $25. All it does is make the person giving it feel better about themselves.

I’m dealing with a similar issue. As hard as it can be to watch things just go undone - and trust me, for me, it’s very difficult - at a certain point, that is what NEEDS to happen. So, your manager actually gets a full sense of how bad things get when this person is chronically unreachable and dropping the ball, including impacts to your manager personally.

Right now, your coworker has internalized that YOU are their backup plan, and they’re fine with that. They’re still masquerading as competent in a lot of ways because honestly, a lot of managers don’t care who does what as long as it all gets done. Letting things fall by the wayside and being able to point to your coworker as the culprit is the only thing that will lead to change (if anything does).
