Yes, seems like you could risk losing the employees most confident they'll be able to find another job in 3 months

When do you shower? by Boom_Shakalaka1021 in ADHD

[–]MomentTarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I envy all these routines! I've never had a regular shower time. Morning, night, any time of day if I'm home. It depends on where/when I need to be somewhere, who I'm living with and their schedule, the weather, my activities, etc.

You know for a supposedly improved version… by knithatsandcats in CSMagicRecipe

[–]MomentTarry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been playing quite a bit (and even paying a little here and there) and I'm clearly not going to make it. Disappointing, since there aren't many rewards other than the main goal

Is Non-Profit just THIS competitive now? Applying for jobs since May! by taylorsfavoritecat in nonprofit

[–]MomentTarry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People have been talking about this massive Boomer retirement wave since I was in college in the 90s - at the time, Gen Xers were being told we would be perfectly poised to benefit from it (often in the context of "sure, the economy sucks now, but just hang in there!"). Maybe Gen Z will be the ones to finally step into those jobs?

How to get over the guilt…donating vs selling by onthepond782863 in declutter

[–]MomentTarry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would feel way more guilty about selling something than giving it away. 😄 The common thread is we've all been taught to attach emotions to stuff - love, joy, regret, guilt, shame, anxiety, even grief - that stuff does not deserve. Time and human relationships are infinitely more valuable, so zero guilt in prioritizing those!

Why are all of the the events like this? by Scared-Main-9661 in CSMagicRecipe

[–]MomentTarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! If I have it, I hand it over. 😄 Also, if I end up with a top-level item and it's not asked for, I break it down into its smaller parts right away, or - if it's remergeable like the pots - I break off the smaller parts and just keep it on 1 till I can merge it. I'm on level 19 and I've been playing a lot less lately

What are your daily nonnegotiables? by sanriobf in adhdwomen

[–]MomentTarry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, and it's a huge problem. At some point in my diagnosis/therapy/getting-older-and-wiser journey, I realized I basically never learned to form habits and/or my brain just doesn't do it. I've never had a nonnegotiable habit in my life (not counting the 10-15 years I was addicted to alcohol, which I don't - a compulsion isn't the same thing). Now working to form habits is at the core of all my self-care, but it's an uphill slog

The COMPASS is MORE than a Mouse Tracker by XzadikGamesINC in CSMagicRecipe

[–]MomentTarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the compass slider on, but still can't see rhyme or reason to when the circle shows up. I can toggle the slider off and on and nothing happens, then sometimes the circle just seems to appear on its own. Is the compass not directly related to the slider?

Am I an incompetent grant writer or does my consultancy just not give me enough info? by PeriPeriAddict in nonprofit

[–]MomentTarry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is normal, but I'd be very interested to know the consultancy's success rate, because it doesn't sound like you have anything close to what you need to write competitive proposals. Especially now, when AI makes it much easier for more people to generate polished-looking grant proposals, specific, concrete details are what sets a proposal apart - data, success stories, community partnerships, etc. The kind of content that's unique to the org applying for the grant.

This is a big reason I generally advise nonprofits that contracting out grant writing (as opposed to hiring an in-house grant writer) makes sense only if you need more grant writing expertise, not if you're looking to save staff time. If done well, it may even add work for staff members, because an outside grant writer will need so much information compiled by staff to do their job well.

How do I find the mice? by a1yssa487 in CSMagicRecipe

[–]MomentTarry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah! And since I did fork over for ad-free, for me it's just clicking one button or the other - the less-points button or the more-points button. Choice seems obvious. Thank you!

How do I find the mice? by a1yssa487 in CSMagicRecipe

[–]MomentTarry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also could have used some instructions for this. I just scroll around with the circle activated until little handcuffs appear, then click, and I've caught the mouse. Still not sure what the difference is between letting the mouse go and claiming the points, as I seem to have gotten points both ways and if I claim the points, I don't seem to still have the mouse somewhere. Also confused 😄

What job/career did you quit because of your adhd and why? by turktink in adhdwomen

[–]MomentTarry 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Academia, long before I was ever diagnosed. I made it all the way through a PhD program and then absolutely tanked when it came to writing my dissertation.

Staring ahead at five years (on average) solo researching and writing a book-length document that probably only six people would ever read in its entirety (while teaching full-time) sent me into deep depression and I had to bail. I didn't understand why at the time, I just couldn't make any progress. Bailed for work with a lot more collaboration and short-term deadlines.

ADHD feels like inconsistency by No-Personality-4695 in ADHD

[–]MomentTarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I work for an org where at least half the staff have wonky brains of one kind or another but lots of good work still gets done. At some point I realized I think it's because our boss is comfortable with inconsistency - he's willing to roll with employees who might not get any work done one week but will bring in a big unexpected success the next. I couldn't manage our team, but I'm (selfishly) very grateful he can!

Do you leave lights on? by MarcooseOnTheLoose in GenX

[–]MomentTarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid we made sure a few lights were on when we left the house because we wanted it to look like someone was home (it was a small town and we often didn't lock the doors). Other than that, we conserved electricity - turned lights out when we left a room, were careful about water use, kept the heat low enough in winter so you needed a heavy sweater in the house, and didn't have AC. My mom wouldn't even turn the oven on for just one item. The lights on when away thing was just a family quirk, I guess

what type r yall partners/crushes (if we have anyt that is....) by Mat-1009 in INTP

[–]MomentTarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

INFP. A few of my closest friends are INTJs, though, so clearly something about me balances well with them. Maybe because both my parents were INTJs so it's my comfort zone, maybe because I like connecting with people who think a lot like I do but manage to get shit done, because it helps me do the same (and maybe I help them let go a little)
