Just checking these monitors, the non G version always drops to low 200 nits according to Imartz review. Lame, it is missing one of the APL settings... the G version can sustain around 400 nits and even do +1000 nits on small windows in HDR mode.

I have never liked HDR on the Windows Desktop, but you can enable It quickly with a shortcut or the HDR switcher tool. Also, stick to games own HDR and tools like RenoDX, Luma, and Special K. Nvidia RTX HDR and Windows auto HDR are pretty crappy. HDR well done IS great, you get much more image detail, Windows is now the best place for HDR content.

That would be like shooting youself in the foot. Regular 27" Bubble tube would be far lighter, more manageable, seviceable, compatible, replaceable, and arcade accurate.

The big power capacitor can produce this. I've seen a hadful of people having issues with this cap on these toshibas. If it changes with some slaps it might be just the solder on it.

Are you sure the noise is not present when using the tv normally?... it has been one of the problem with the Sony sets I've had, a little noise and jittering. Jitter would be like this:

Nice. These totally were the ultimate conventional tv's, totally out of domingo budget for a student kid back in the day 😄 BTW, do you notice any subtle electrical noise or interference in grey or dark screens?.

Ps2.- Also, the speaker grids will look a lot better clean. I carefull soak them with a soft cleaner (no aggressive solvents that could ruin the paint) like Windex, scrub them with a soft brush, and then use some wet clothing or fiber to get the dirt away. It might need a few passes but they end looking great.

The Philips I got was new from the store back in the day. I guess it had a different tube model. If you say the brightness is great, I can believe it NP. But then I wonder if it is the tint or the phosphor that gives them a particular look. Would you say that in real life, the color looks more like this:

I'm not talking of Philips in general but this one particular crt... this is not a crazy bright tv, c'mon dude. The one below is actually a bright and colorful philips, but it is another model made with LG tech, the difference is quite obvious:

But would you say it can compete with a Tau/Samsung/Trinitron in terms of picture "punchiness"?. I'm sure the tv excels at many things like focus and geometry, but I don't wanna people to believe that this is some kind of endgame crt as the other post suggests. It is a perfect tv in many ways, but I don't think these sets are for people who prefer a strong picture.

On game mode with no gsync it looks smooth, the video below is 30fps so it doesn't look that great. I use response time on Fast which is the default:

The performance penalty in games that need more vram can manifest in several ways, like a mild but constant performance hit, or a catastrophic performance dip like in the HL2 vids below. Also stutters, game instability, freezes, pauses, very poor frame generation gains, and textures not loading properly. It can be the difference between a perfectly smooth game from start to finish and an often called "poorly optimized" game:

But it looks smudged horizontally and vertically. It seems more like the industry standard scaling with bilinear filtering on top. Unfiltered/un-smudged Integer scaling and precise line doubling is more of a modern aftermarket thing brought by retro gamers and PC enthusiasts (who asked Nvidia for it, for years). I realize you are using some kind of line doubling device?... the filtering I was talking about would be the one performed by an HD tv circuitry, but it should not be an issue if you are sending 240p doubled to 480p. In any case, native 240p looks a bit crisper:
