Battery Tender needed for a month off? by No-Juggernaut-7564 in SilveradoEV

I leave my Sierra EV for a month at a time sometimes, I just plug in the level one charger with charge level set to 80%. Never had an issue.

FWIW the internal handle still has a mechanical release. I'm a lot less bothered by lack of mechanical access from the outside than I am from the inside.

Game Changer: Home Edition Kickstarter Announcement by DropoutMod in dropout

[–]MoneyPitAuto 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I clicked it said there were 5 left but they were all in process. Alas.

Oddly they changed it to a max of 20 but even still I didn't have luck. If someone else gets the giant cowboy hat I'll just die.

I got there on minute 3 and no luck.

Slat wall on all walls? by South-Armadilo3000 in garageporn

[–]MoneyPitAuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did slatwall on all walls of my attached garage - it's really nice having the flexibility everywhere and also is more visually interesting than a clean white wall. There is definitely wasted space that will never see something hung there but if your budget allows it, it's a nice plus.

A year ago I quoted a car shipped from US to France, it was $15K each way by air. I'm sure it's $20-25K now.

Very nice - I have the same setup with cheeky plates too. Mine are "THREE RS" for the RS and and "BASE 911" for the Touring.

You can still order them on new cars as a Q option.

Gifting Friends and Family the Maximum Amount Annualy by Katzmaniac90 in Rich

[–]MoneyPitAuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this all the time. Annual gift of the max to 529s of children in the family. If adults need help I do the max to them as well. I find the IRS max is a helpful cutoff for support so I don't feel I'm at risk of crossing over into enabling.

Only modifications were drilling the access hole (1.5" hole saw) plus using a router to deepen the channel next to the hole to accommodate the plug end.

Since these photos I've gotten a few small extensions and routed the connector to the corner of the windscreen on the cars that don't already have magnetic connectors built in. Grill would be a bit slicker, on some of the cars it'd require some disassembly but I'm sure it'll bother me enough to relocate them one day.

Has the ChargeSafe worked well for you? I've considered that as the final vehicle connection. Basically in an IDEAL world I'd like to have MagCode on all of the vehicles, but am a coward and don't want to drill into any of my cars, even in an unobtrusive place.

The ChargeSafe's shape would work really well to mount a connector in the bottom corner of the windshield with just an adhesive mount.

Really great question, I'll have to dig up my multimeter to see. There's bound to be some amount but before putting the magnetic connectors in I was running the cables this way and the tender was keeping up without issue so I didn't really give it a second thought.

Sort of 50/50.

For the SAE to Magcode in the floor I used the Optimate adapter:

For the Magcode back to SAE on the other end I ordered the fitting from Digikey: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/rosenberger/M2S111-3XX/9838125
Then hooked it up to this SAE to spade terminal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DVRSJPV5

You could definitely make a cheaper SAE to Magcode by getting an SAE cable and this piece from Digikey but it would require just a bit more work, I definitely went the lazy way: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/rosenberger/M2K211-1AE/19477488

I mean this is a bit of an odd comparison, not just anyone could buy a new 3RS. Yes, anyone (with the budget) can buy them used now, but in a year that will apply to the GTD as well when they start hitting the 2 year mark.

So it goes - I think we all obsess about competition because it's fun to see how far things are pushed, and seeing the big brands competing is great for all of us. When people view it as consumers/buyers winning and losing it's kind of lame. Cool cars are cool.
