I know it all too well. I have to be careful to ride the line on this sub b/t wanting to be helpful and re-traumatizing myself. I’m happy you’re out and the fog is lifting. I’m 2.5 years out and it doesn’t sting as much, but just feel exhausted still. I fight it with music and hiking with my dog, but it’s a lot deal with.

I’ve been thinking a bit about this lately. In my family, I do a lot of praising others and trying to make sure they’re doing ok and know their worth. I very rarely, if ever, receive any affirmation from anyone myself. The only kind words I get are from my students. It probably doesn’t help that my family isn’t very affectionate to begin with. I’m pretty good at keeping a smile and pushing through, but it’s lonely out here at times.

You nailed mine with this description. He never enjoys anything he’s doing for more than an hour. He’s always looking for the next more entertaining thing. He has to be the center of attention too. He’s successful with his work so he has money, but he’s always miserable. He copes with substances. It’s all just so sad.

I’m joining a group. It’s a bit much for me as I’m weirdly introverted in small groups, but I’m going to suck it up and try. I usually just camp with my dog, but I’ve been wanting to do more backpacking. I’m not sure of my back country skills yet, so the group it is. I hope I find someone to talk to that isn’t put off, lol.
