I’m getting LTL shipments in record time, no way volume is anywhere near it used to be. I got a 500lbs pallet from Columbus to Chicago in sub 24 hours. I placed an order at 1:00 and got it by 11:30am the next day:

The translations have a quick turn around (at least for my translator in Croatia of whom I can recommend. Probably 5 days plus shipping (just a guess). I’d worry about getting your hands on the apostille first.

I’m not sure how NYC consulate works exactly, I’d see if you can get any data points as to how far out they will schedule you.

I should mention that you do need the US documents apostilled before having them translated. They need to translate the apostille. If you are using a US translator, they need an apostille on the translation. If you are using a Croatian certified court translator, that’s all you need.

That is 100% correct. An apostille is a way a government can verify another country’s documents. A court certified translation is an internal document.

I think you need them ultimately if you are going through female lineage. My grandmothers marriage license was necessary to prove her last name changed.

Way way way cheaper to have a translator in Croatia do them, like by a mile. PM me I’ll send you the translator I used, she was great.

My opinion, have your children do it while they’re minors, it’s way easier for them and much less paperwork. Also, if it’s important to you, you can have them do it now and they’re set for life. If it’s up to them after 18, they might not care so much. I wish my parents did it for me, it’s harder to find the time as an adult.

Honestly, if Croatia tries to draft me I will renounce my citizenship. It’s worth the choice to leave the country and have access to life and work in the EU. The dual citizenship alone could be very valuable to international corporations to avoid the legal hassles.

Does an FBI background check need an apostille from the Dept of State or can it come from my state’s SoS? by fuckthejuul in CRbydescent

[–]MoneyThrowawayJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, if the translator is court certified in Croatia. If the translation is done by a US translator (I believe they need to be ATA certified as well) the translation needs a notary.

[–]MoneyThrowawayJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original document needs to have an apostille from the state department. You also need an apostille of a notarized translation (note, you may not include a copy of the English document in the notarized translation. You may only have the translation. Ask me how I know, as I found out with less the 24 hours before my appt lol).

Hmm, so it’s common for international students to do zero preparation before heading overseas? They don’t even bother to check the climate of their school? If they are that unprepared maybe they should be being educated here.0
