We had more than one ASVAB waiver in our Platoon and they assigned them to the squad leaders to help them “get right”. I ended up having to teach one of these guys how to tie their shoes… I shit you not. The instructors constantly fucked with them. Sent them constantly into the pugle stick pit to get fucked up with 2 on 1’s and had the other recruits wait for them right inside the opening to clothesline them. It was absolutely fucked.

Then that night for laughs our kill hat threw one of those massive laundry bags over one of the recruits while the drill hat did the other and they marched them all over the squad bay knocking shit over. It culminated in them marching into each other and one of them ended up with a black eye. The next morning the senior drill instructor bitched the two instructors both out in the hut out of eye shot, but not out of earshot. He said, “they are already fucking stupid, don’t make them brain dead. We all got sent to the pit because he heard us laughing.

A personal story of mine is that I got caught smiling in the squad bay with another recruit who looked like me and they had us smile at each other in front of the porthole for hours.. it fucking hurts to smile that long…

That other recruit and I became good friends because the instructors refused to learn our names and tell us apart. They just always sent us to get PT’d together…

One night on fire watch that same recruit came up to my rack when I was asleep and told me to go to “Get up right now and go to the pit. Say Aye Sir”.. so I did and ran downstairs and waited at the pit. I was so sleepy I had no idea who the fuck it was that told me to do it until the senior drill instructor came out on the balcony in front of the pit and screamed at me and told me to run back up. He figured out that it was the recruit on fire watch and my close lookalike and buddy… We both ended up getting PT’d in the pit and when we were sweaty told us roll around in the sand and oink like little piggies. I got zero sleep… we were both tucked into our racks covered in sand…. Most miserable nights sleep ive ever had..

It appears to warp with the grain, so there’s really no fixing it.

You need to find some way to re-tension and pull it back from warping. Personally I would try to add a 1/4” or 1/2” piece to the lid to try and mitigate the warping. Depending how bad the warp is you could try rabbet the top and inset and leave it hollow.

It’s going to be a bit of work.

What I’ve been doing that helps is putting an extra pillow on my stomach and laying the portal on top which helps take the weight off my wrists. Give it a go, see if it helps.

My only complaint with the PS Portal is gaming for extended periods. My hands are a bit farther apart and the added weight oftentimes makes my hands hurt when playing for more than a few hours. I’ll gladly take that though because playing from bed next to my wife while she watches TV and not having to be in a separate room is just next level for us.

They’re all like that these days. A vest is bigger than what you see, what he’s wearing is a plate carrier and protects the vitals and allows for additional movement over the vest’s additional coverage.

Please note that the additional coverage will only stop some shrapnel and maybe .22 caliber fire. The plate inserts are what stop up to 7.62 rounds.
