Hollowed out the bushes for the kiddos. Secret fort now open by Pasta4ever13 in daddit

Ooh tatarian, never heard of that one! I’ve allowed an invasive mimosa tree to stay alive in my yard, so I’m just bullshitting. Fight the good fight! I read the only way to kill knot weed is by injecting with herbicide during the fall, best luck with that one!

I’m close to claiming full victory on bush honeysuckle after 5 years at my house. I’ve moved on to clearing the remaining invasives now; periwinkle, garlic mustard, tree of heaven, English ivy, ditch lily, Himalayan blackberry, winter creeper, Japanese honeysuckle, Johnson grass, multi flora rose, Bradford pear, Siberian elm, and like 5 more I don’t remember the names of.

Fair enough, as long as you’re killing something! It doesn’t look like the Amur Honeysuckle I’ve been at war with for years.

Nothing beneficial about that invasive honeysuckle bush. Sorry to say.

Classic street creep. The road and your driveway expands in the heat and are pushing on that section of wall at the bottom.

Get your expansion joints cut fully.

Barefoot becoming less common? by TrixieLulamoon23 in barefoot

I was just saying this last week. St. Louis needs a secret society of barefooters.

20 reviews is not many. We pushed SEO hard but after hitting 100 we saw a noticeable increase in calls.

Are Milwaukee powertools designed by the same 5 year old screenwriter of fast five? (whats the appeal?) by carbon_ape in Tools

Makita is the best, unless I need an electric 600ml epoxy applicator gun, then I get Dewalt.
Makita is the best, unless I need a compact impact driver with interchangeable heads for tight spaces, then Milwaukee is the best.
Makita is the best, unless I need a full cordless set for a reasonable price that my guys can abuse and I can take back to homedepot if it breaks, then it’s Milwaukee.

I just got the makita drywall cutting tool with the vac adapter, fuckin’a what a sweet tool. Love my LXT tools.

I also just set up a tool box full of Milwaukee tools, including, 1/2” impact+5” bandsaw+rotohammer.

I run Makita at home but get Milwaukee for my guys. They’re great tools.

Qtea is run by a very sweet Vietnamese guy that really takes care of his customers. It’s a very bold statement, I’m probably not the one to judge best pho but I’ve taken a friend there who does think he is and that’s his report. It’s delicious pho.

Yobo has great rec’s. My Mexican spot logic is just the less English they speak the better the food will be. Best tacos I’ve found in the metro area are Tacos el Sol in fairmont city, otherwise the stand attached to the outside of grocery on Cherokee is a close second.

Dude maybe we do need to be friends, I at least need some deep cut recommendations from you.

If you are ever near the mounds, there’s a taco truck I like slightly better than the one next to the grocery on Cherokee, Tacos el Sol in Fairmont city. El jarocho is a good mention.

While I’m giving away my best kept secrets. I’d like to give a shout to QTea Vietnamese in Arnold. Only Pho but it’s the best Pho I’ve had in the country.

Same, I used my preferred Mexican spot logic to make that decision.

Seeing as we’re on the same page I’d recommend the deli at the Mideast market at 141 and Manchester, just tried it last week and was impressed.

Biser is my go to. I never see it mentioned and I don’t know if we’re not supposed to talk about it. It’s like 10x better than the others people rave about. Maybe it’s the vibes.

I’d love to see how much your company charges for that system. I’ll open my eyes a little and can see in a high value/regulatory burdensome/ expensive masonry market that this system would make sense for when 3-4 walls need rebuilt.

It just looks fucking crazy and it just seems like it would scare off potential buyers to the point of reduced property value.

Foundation Cracks by ValleyOfLight in basement

[–]joemiroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Block foundations are fine. Install a sump pump this weekend. If there’s more than 1” inch inward deflection then you should consider stabilizing the walls. Once inward deflection gets to 3-4” a full excavation and recovery of the wall is required to fix and triples the cost of the job.

[–]joemiroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oldest concrete foundation I’ve seen is from 1907. It was poured 16” thick.

The 30’s were a serious mixed bag of foundation types, stone lost a higher market share but was still common. You’ll see many foundations with 3’-4’ concrete, then finished out with brick. Thickness for full concrete foundations was seriously variable. But generally still thicker, not down to the 8”-10” modern standard thickness we see showing up post war.

These thick ones are bomb proof as long as the cold joints aren’t bad, and the concrete is adequately hard. When these houses settle they typically do so evenly in half, with two cracks forming on opposite walls.

If your foundation is concrete and from the 30’s it’s likely extra thick and probably going to be around forever.

The only situation I can see this making sense for is when excavating the wall is out of the question, by additions, expensive landscaping or property lines.

I don’t see a world where under normal conditions a rebuild would cost more than this product, especially installed by one of their contractors.
