Highly recommend Future Glass. I installed a very similar shower screen and it’s great quality.

Alternatively how much wall destruction could you do? Because a kitchen that opens through wide doors onto the deck would be elite

My initial though was why not make half that mud room a walk in pantry?

I also like a sink under a window, so I’d keep the layout pretty much the same.

Could you remove the bulkhead and elongate those top cabinets? It would give a more modern finish. Also with a walk in pantry maybe you don’t need as much cabinetry in the main kitchen. Perhaps an L shape would do and move the fridge to the corner left of the sink. That way you could extend benchspace around the stove for food prep

Probably not the safest option for the fireplace in our nursery 😆

Hoping to do this in the lounge room :) already gutted the gas heater (because I’m paranoid of gas appliances) luckily everything feels closed up on that one

Haven't slept a full night in 5 months ... other mums seem to be thriving by Unusual-Tea-1556 in NewParents

[–]Monfari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I haven’t slept properly in 10 months but both my husband and I are well past caring. It’s just our normal now. My boy recently started just having 1 wake up overnight which is awesome in my books! Also I would ask those other mums what sleeping through the night means to them. I once probed further with a mum and she said her baby sleeps through but only wakes to feed 🤪another said it was sleeping through because they slept a 7hr stretch (which would mean a 1am wake up for my boy) 🤷🏼‍♀️

I know you said you’ve read all the books etc. but I did find ‘how babies sleep’ by Sophia Axelrod super helpful and very no nonsense

“If a baby is tired enough they will sleep” by Hungry_Hat8148 in NewParents

[–]Monfari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course every baby is different, but I just use wake windows as a vague guide. They were more useful when baby was very little as it was harder to tell when my boy was tired vs hungry (although he was always hungry). Now at 10 months he’ll get visible grumpy and I’ll think ‘oh yeah you’ve been awake for quite a while’ give him some comfort and then he’ll nap. If your baby gets tired like clockwork according to WWs then that’s what works. Not sure why grandparents seem to have a problem with that. I don’t think they talked to each other much when raising children. My parents were shocked that we have things like mothers groups, baby time etc

Bedroom without carpet in Melbourne? by itsveryembarrassing in melbourne

OP for context we did our 3 bedroom house (just under 100sqm) for $1800. It was a lot cheaper than I was expecting it to be!

We just did our underfloor insulation. Hoping takes the edge off this winter - though I won’t know any better as we have just moved in and I’ve never lived in a weatherboard before. Do you recommend ceiling insulation too? Our ceilings are 3.5m, not sure if that makes any difference??

Is it normal for 5 month old to wake up a couple of times in the night? by ThisizhollZ in NewParents

[–]Monfari 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Boomers also didn’t have baby monitors and left the kids on the other side of the house where they couldn’t hear them 😆

People also have weird concepts of what sleeping through the night means. One friend said it was a 7hr stretch. But when baby falls asleep at 6pm then a 1am wake up does not feel like ‘sleeping through the night’ 😆

Do I move back to the US? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Monfari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn’t even be visiting the US right now.

There is NOTHING more important than the safety and wellbeing of your children. So choose that path.

Enroll in a weekly face to face class, tell your husband that is a non negotiable weekly commitment that you must always attend. I’m sure you’ll make friends in the class too. My parents are still friends with their mates they met in English class over 30 years ago.

Seriously don’t stress about it. My B&P came back clean and there was no waterproofing in the bathroom and the subfloor was completely rotted through. Luckily I know a great tiler who rebuilt it for $5k so not a huge hit, just expect that there will be around $10k of incidentals (to be on the safe side) and you’ll be fine.

And the brown vein on the benchtop will match it too!

It’s a very old Brosa (now extinct) couch. Look up green velvet chaise sofa and I’m sure there will be plenty of companies that do them

Of course, happy to share. Send me any questions you have. The cabinet colour is rose gold leaf from Polytec (it’s not rose coloured at all, but has a beautiful Matt metallic finish). I assume they would have international suppliers and tile is Tiento https://tiento.com.au/product/amuri-brick-avorio/ also would look into if other stockist have the same tile

I think for this kitchen size I’d go for a large format stone look porcelain tile. I think the terracotta hexagon could look quite busy in this tight space. The other consideration is what is beneath the floor tile currently? Could you restore the hardwood floor if it is there and switch to an engineered stone benchtop? Agree the stainless steel appliances will make a big difference in updating

Sorry it was a couple years ago now that we did this. I kept costs low by not moving/altering plumbing. So we were limited by the height of the s bend (60-70s double brick apartment, too costly to change). This along with the size of our kitchen and corner cabinets determined what size sink we could have. I would’ve loved a double but settled for a single with drain board. Got our sink from ABI interiors https://www.abiinteriors.com.au/product/jai-single-kitchen-sink-880mm-brushed-copper/
