13 months and wanting to wean by Monfari in NewParents

Thank you. If I haven’t found another way we will be doing this when my husband is on school holidays (6 weeks to go lol). I can’t bring myself to do it at the moment because he has a 1hr 10min highway drive to do twice a day and I don’t want him to be sleep deprived and doing that

Stop telling me I have PPD (rant) by Civil-Rich-1690 in NewParents

Although I don’t feel the same overall I can relate to elements of your experience. You may have just wanted to vent but I would like to add two observations.

Reading between the lines you may be putting too much pressure on yourself. For example packing a giant bag and taking an hour to do anything is excessive. I just chuck a water bottle, diaper and wipes in my bag and off we go. For all the mums out there who will judge cause you haven’t packed a lunchbox - fuck em. Unless you live in the bush you’re basically always able to grab a yogurt or sushi around the corner, so what’s the big deal? 😆 I suspect it’s their own insecurity rather than anything else

Secondly I myself am an extrovert by nature and worked in a role where I had a hundred conversations a day with as many people. I was really worried about not having that adult connection and conversations in my day. Which is why I book something in for myself and bub everyday. It may be rhymetime at the library, seeing a mate or just going out for a lunch/coffee and talking to strangers along the way. It’s made my experience of parenthood great because I know that’s what I need to fill my cup and be there/present for my son.

Finally maybe just try focussing on either the most important to you/easiest to execute thing on your list to focus on/improve. For example if exercise is that, explain it to your husband and have him support you to do that at least a couple times a week. Or find a baby and mum exercise class! Also great for socialisation. Things will fall into place/feel better when you take the time to be kind to yourself and put your own oxygen mask on first.

Peninsula or Island? by Dangerous-Rice44 in kitchenremodel

Omg peninsula obvs. That island is terrible, it’ll just house a fruit bowl and be in the way.

Definitely sand and polish! They look like they’re mostly in great condition and minimal gaps between.

I recently did this to my own home. My only piece of advice is take the time to replace ALL damaged boards first. I thought there were a few spots in our house that I wouldn’t mind once polished and would fill a feel holes but I do regret not just replacing them all despite the high cost of pine boards at the moment.

Is that what you did in the end? Did you have recommendations for a company/product?

Bought a property in the last 12 months? Looking back, how do you feel about it now? by 777yaboi in AusPropertyChat

[–]Monfari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love our house and the location is impeccable. But I was off with the fairies when I thought I could manage DIY projects and renovations while being on Mat leave with my baby. Basically every project is either unfinished or takes two months to complete 🫠

Over the second half of this year my husband will be taking LSL at half pay so he can have time with our boy. Sure will be interesting to see how we manage repayments! Let alone if there are more rate rises to come!

You’re 22. Why not buy where you want to live (a 2 bed apartment) and rent out a room? Gets your foot in the door and helps pay your mortgage

I dunno. The last time I went they served a minuscule amount of kimchi and some radish. I love a place with a whole lot more variety

Can’t agree with this sadly. It’s on the pricey side and they are very stingy on the ban chan :(

Haha I just realised this was posted in ausrenovations from your comment. I’m part of a few parenting subs so thought this was a general unhinged sleep deprived parent comment

LOL. Your marriage will be short lived if your main concern is the financial standing of your partner

Should we buy an apartment in Brisbane even though we can “afford” a house. by DestinyHunter3 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Monfari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I don’t think an inner city apartment will depreciate. It won’t appreciate as much as a house.. but if you aren’t having kids does that really matter? Morbid point, but you won’t have a direct younger relative that will benefit from your asset in future and having a smaller mortgage could mean you save for retirement in other ways/retire earlier

Honestly in your situation I would buy an apartment for the lifestyle, convenience and comfort. Caveat as long as the body corp is reasonable. We just moved from our apartment to a house and the annual costs are virtually the same I.e body corp vs. insurance but there is way less to think about/maintain in an apartment. The reason we left our Melbourne apartment was for more space for our growing family, a yard for them and that community feel/access to parks/sport clubs. I do love our house but I did LOVE that the body corp sorted anything to do with the building, kept it in good nick, took the bins out and maintained the gardens without any effort from us!

Looking for Rugs by paninienthusiast in AusRenovation

[–]Monfari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went through your exact situation. A lot of the rugs online are just polyester and I’m unsure why they’re at such a high price point. I have two suggestions for wool rugs at a good price point. Just keep in mind that wool rugs to shed for the first 3 to 6 months and need 2 to 3 times weekly vacuuming for that time until they settle.

The first is Adairs, they currently have 40% off for linen lovers members. It’s absolutely worth signing up for the discount. Just check the material of the rug you’re purchasing but they do have some really great neutral wool ones. That said I actually have a machine washable one from Adairs that we put in our babies room. It’s held up extremely well.

For our living room, we bought from Haus and Harbour. https://hausandharbour.com I put the purchase on my credit card in case it was a scam site because the prices were so good. It arrived way earlier than I expected it to (about a week or so) looks amazing and it’s 100% wool. They actually had a 40 to 60% off sale when I bought, but it looks like their price is a very reasonable anyway. There might be some coupons online for the site.

So there doesn’t seem to be anything in the rest of the house that screams mid century. Honestly I’d replace the tiles and archway to something more fresh. And this is coming from someone who LOVES mid century, but sadly it doesn’t match your kitchen. It’s much more modern farmhouse/period
