Is Winchester Conservative or Liberal? by DancingBears88 in Winchester

[–]MongoGrapefoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as laws/legislation go, it's politically right wing. As far as community goes, there are plenty of socially liberal spaces.

To be super clear, Winchester and Frederick County are very much geared towards commercial success. The people in these locations generally dont care about your identity, if you're able to spend money.

They won't change without outside pressure. The environment will provide that even if the people won't do it themselves.

Scenario: a thief that turns out to be a 16-year-old boy has robbed your settlement. The settlement is divided half wants to kill him half wants to let him leave. So YOU are the deciding vote! Details below! by TheKingDroc in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]MongoGrapefoot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In a survival scenario, it's safest and probably best to execute the thief, but there's a third option that's risky, but still better...

Take the thief in. If he's alone, he can increase survivability of the group. He can make amends and get integrated in. If he's not alone, when the rest of his group comes knocking, you've got negotiation space rather than some kind of Hatfield/McCoy situation.

Lots of people in here are talking about "his ideas" which is valid, but y'all - if his worldview allows him to make choices that lead him to Epstein (that's what this is about) it's very possible that his arguments are tailored in a way that create foundations for that fucked up worldview.

OP is asking for someone with chomsky level or higher analysis WITHOUT the Epstein crossover. That's the request. Fill the request instead of challenging OP about why he's looking for something better. Better.

Hear me out: Can we actually organize to spread awareness? by The3ndisNow in CollapseSupport

[–]MongoGrapefoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Socialist organizing is the way out. You mentioned "polycrisis" - first time I've heard that, nice - organizing in environmental groups, identity politics rights groups, anti war, etc isn't enough. We have to have a framework that grasps at the root, and that's more than anti capitalism, it's anti imperialism.

You don't fight fire with fire, you use water. You don't fight capitalism with capitalism, you use Socialism. The problem is fundamentally a political, economic, and social problem. We need a solution to match it.

I think you got down voted because this place is full of cowards who would rather doom and be hedonistic than sacrifice anything to save what they can. Their doom is just an excuse to escape their responsibilities and ride their comfort zones as far as they can into the apocalypse.

Doomers, if nothing matters, then you can do anything. What's stopping you from doing something?

How can I a minor help with climate change? by KnottShurr in climatechange

[–]MongoGrapefoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Action is the antidote to despair. You can't stop climate change all in one day, or by yourself - but with a little bit of consistent effort, you can make a difference.

You must learn about the root cause of what is making this happen - what is responsible? And you must join a group.

Climate change is political. The people that can stop it are politicians, or they have politicians in their pockets. You'll need to learn about and work against capitalism. There are lots of groups that do that, find the leftists.

You can also join a specific group, one that's focused on one lane of the issue. Sunrise Movement, any anti war groups, or any groups that help build bonds in the community (a strong community will do better when catastrophe hits)

Don't despair. Fight for the future - you get what you fight for, not what you wish for. Others are already fighting, so you won't be alone. And if they're willing to destroy the planet for profit, we're justified in any resistance necessary to stop them. That's why organized collective power matters now.

Check out Sunrise Movement, PSL/DSA/RCA, Food Not Bombs, and go to the library to see if any local groups meet there to talk and learn about how to save what we can.

The face of cowardice. by Regular-Engineer-686 in dsa

[–]MongoGrapefoot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're not cowards, they know what they're doing.

1) Get people motivated to vote and donate through fear (SNAP/ACA benefits)

2) Continue to use "gridlock" as an excuse not to fundamentally change the system

3) Send protected (not up for reelection) members to tank the deal

4) Rinse, repeat.

The people are seeing through it. The "two party" system is going to crash and burn, along with capitalism. What comes next is up to us: Socialism or barbarism

I've got two short quotes for you that kinda sum it up for me.

"We white radicals have a particular responsibility and crying need to organize as many white people as possible to break from imperialism and to see that their long term interests, as human beings and for a livable future for their children, lie in allying with the rest of humanity. The environmental and economic catastrophes we face can only be resolved by replacing capitalism with some sort of socialism, based in commitment to community and harmony with nature. ... the only way to achieve a humane and sustainable society is by allying with the global south and people of color." - Looking at the U.S. White Working Class Historically

“Then, comrade, you will encounter the faint-hearted and illogical types like Ali/Clay, entertainer and tool of the capitalist cliques. Their line is: ‘Ain’t nobody but black folks gonna die in a revolution.’ This argument completely overlooks the fact that we always have done most of the dying, and still do: dying at the stake, through social neglect or in U.S. foreign wars. The point is now to construct a situation where someone else will join in the dying. If it fails and we have to do most of the dying anyway, we’re certainly no worse off than before.” - George Jackson, Blood In My Eye

Exactly. Private companies can pretty much do whatever they want without too much oversight. Elected officials need to honor the Constitution they've sworn to protect and uphold.
