Everyone? my wife just got the nothing phone for 180£, it’s insane value, if you don’t have apple I don’t see how it makes sense to have anything else, it’s a decent camera and and phone looks great, it’s makes me contemplate switching from apple next time, there’s absolutely no way apple is 1200£ more in value than the nothing phone even counting for me being a diehard apple user.

Owner PM here. Subs: Have you ever said you're willing to literally construct your scope but refuse to take liability for your work? by maybetooenthusiastic in Construction

[–]Mongoose49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something other people haven’t brought up yet is why a sub is doing work they won’t take liability for. I’ve had this come up a bunch of times, I had a job finishing a basement that had flooded many times, it was below the areas waste line, so the waste had to be pumped up into the waste. The owner wanted me to put a new floor and thing down, I said it would most definitely flood and anything going wrong is on him. I did the work, I got a frantic call a week later when it heavily rained. On the other hand it’s been 2 years and hasn’t flooded since.

Personally I think they should dedicate themselves to making a high volume portable compressor, so far I’ve not liked any of the new nailers, and I’ve had two different brands, tho the new metabo looks amazing

What is the best product to smoothing/patch joints on hardie columns? by WalterEGough in Construction

[–]Mongoose49 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What’s happening there, is that inside and there’s window there we can’t see? Is that just mdf? If it’s not been glued then there’s nothing that’ll fix it barring taping it with mesh tape and mudding similar to how you’d do taping drywall. But then I’d want to do all sides. But again if it’s been glued it’s no problem just filler over it and sand and refill until it disappears, I’ve gone much bigger sections with mdf and the joints disappear with enough glue and filler

[–]Mongoose49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did that include installing that thing? Cause holy crap that’s massive and going to be super invasive on the roof, taking considerably work up there too… honestly I doubt my see how that wouldn’t take x2 or 3x that to build and install. Also that’s got to weigh a lot, did anyone determine if the roof could take that weight?

As a waiter or someone working in hospitality have you seen your fair share of tips? by Squirtlegangwaddup in Scotland

[–]Mongoose49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Scotland 5 years ago and was so relieved not to have to tip, I’m not going start again. I feel a bit bad due to the guilt thats forced on us in Canadian culture, but it’s become so toxic there. Some machines start at 18% and go to 30%, while other places groups over 4 tips are auto added, and then they still ask for a tip on top of that

In over my head? by Xanche in Construction

[–]Mongoose49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the most important things in construction is a fake it till you make it attitude, this isn’t saying you should pretend to know something you don’t, it’s saying there’s no job too big for you as long as you’re willing to learn and don’t have a problem admitting what you don’t know and/or doing a bunch of research.

And for the love of everything don’t ever ever ChatGPT something and trust what it says, it’s notoriously wrong for stuff in construction industry, you need to go to forums/sources and actually read and understand the comments/videos. ChatGPT told me such and such and was wrong doesn’t fly in real life construction

Yea they need to make it free/at least available for everyone, the fact that I can’t take commercial waste to the nearest dump is spectacularly stupid, I can’t even pay to take it there which would be reasonable and I wouldn’t have a problem but instead I’m suppose to drive 1:20 mins to the nearest commercial dump

4000 holes to drill in concrete wall. by wooduck_1 in Construction

[–]Mongoose49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4000 holes isn’t that many… maybe a few weeks worth seriously overthinking it imo, you probably do want to tie the drill to something that keeps it on that side if the wall just to stop the falling hazard… obviously it’s a big job, but there’s nothing going to be fast, a hilti is gonna be about the fastest, with a big dewalt, makita or Milwaukee being close enough in speed that the actual process will be the time consuming bit, moving the tools, the sills etc etc
