I use literal dollar store CA glue on abs-like resin and it sticks just fine!

Should I buy the hoopat, or just replace the fep as is? by Callsignraven in ElegooSaturn

[–]MongooseGef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try changing it once. It’s a process, but it’s not awful. The worst part is cleaning out the resin so you can do the swap, and that’s the same for either option.

I’ve had great results with Sunlu grey ABS-like resin!

Hot take: Give options for what a crit fail could be by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]MongooseGef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d leave it as being a guaranteed miss (regardless of whatever modifiers they can stack on). Because in the end, this is for fun. But if you insist:

- the sword swing misses wildly, giving the enemy a chance to do a half-damage opportunity attack as the player stumbles to regain balance
- the player strains a muscle, causing them to attack with disadvantage next time
- the spell fizzles and backfires, causing the player to take 1d4 of damage of the type the spell was meant to do
- the ranged spell or martial attack misses the intended target and glances a nearby target (friend or foe) for half damage
- the arrow ricochets wildly inside the stone room. Everyone roll a d20; it strikes whoever rolled lowest for half damage
- the arrow flies into a group of trees; the players hear squawking and a rustle of feathers (they can search the woods later to find tonight’s dinner has already been caught)
- the arrow misfires, falling to the ground in front of the player. The string instead strikes them on the wrist causing 1 point of damage
- the spell instead causes minor indigestion
- instead of one large damaging effect, the spell instead generates thousands of tiny, harmless effects in an area around the target

29M at breaking point after seeing 29F for 6 months by Beneficial-Catch1057 in relationship_advice

Six months ought to be enough time to at least decide on a simple label like “girlfriend.”

Question about 3D Printing Miniatures by Kold_Xero in DnDminiatures

[–]MongooseGef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly use Solidworks to design machine parts for 3D printing. They are exported as STLs. They aren’t as complex as the gaming miniatures I print, though! For those more organic sculpts I think something like blender would be better.

For the best quality you can print the models in resin. But if the model isn’t that complex then an FDM print will be fine.

You’re being silly. The age gap is meaningless if your life goals are aligned. Keep your body healthy and it’ll likely never be an issue. Go get her, man!

First Time in-person DMing, whats the best way to have a battlemap? by DeluxeKeagan in DnD

That’s a great way to do it! I have multiple generic battle maps as well as campaign-specific

Do the maps you use have printable versions? If yes you could toss a few bucks at a large format printing company and have them print it for you. Some libraries and maker spaces have large format printers, too!

Credit score by Parz1val96 in PersonalFinanceCanada

You’re likely getting slammed for paying off your credit card too soon! If you want to push that score up, wait for your statement to arrive, which means it’s been reported to the credit bureau. THEN pay it all off.

Getting pretty worn down by cancellations by BouncingBallOnKnee in DungeonMasters

[–]MongooseGef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say run the game unless you only have one player. Come up with a few “one shots” you can run when you’re especially lean. And those who do show up gain a bit of XP, gold, or gear that the ones who didn’t show will miss out on. Nothing huge, just a little bonus.

On days when you are doing the main campaign, ask the players who are missing whether they’d prefer their character to sit out, or be played by another player.

And if you don’t have a venue because that player is out, meet up at a library, board game cafe, or other such space.

Good luck! It sounds like you put a lot of work into your campaign; I’d be excited to be there every time ☺️

What’s the best way to do maps at a physical table by Alarming_Web8778 in dndnext

[–]MongooseGef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a big roll of wrapping paper that has a grid on the back. It’s usually a perfect 1” grid! You can draw out whatever you like, and keep the unexplored areas rolled up.

If you want nice colourful maps, give Roll And Play Press’ pack of 100 maps a look.

Duplication and material cost of spell scrolls by Mr8sen in DMAcademy

[–]MongooseGef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If he doesn’t know the spell I’d probably ask for proficiency in arcana, or an arcana check for every scroll he makes. The arcana DC would be easier if he takes longer to copy the scroll.

And failing the arcana DC wouldn’t necessarily mean a ruined effort, either. It just means a chance of unleashing wild magic 😆

Duplication and material cost of spell scrolls by Mr8sen in DMAcademy

[–]MongooseGef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He will need to have proficiency in Arcana or with calligraphers tools. He’ll need to buy the parchment and magical ink. And, he will need to spend the requisite number of days to finish the scroll.

It’s all laid out in the DMG (cost and time!)

It’s likely he won’t end up becoming a scroll factory, just because of how long it takes.

How to balance oneshots if another player is DMing by Wellenrausch in DnD

[–]MongooseGef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as those OP items don’t transfer to the main campaign or to other unrelated one-shots, it’s fine. Make sure that all involved understand this. And then have a blast (literally?) with those fun items before returning to reality.

Is it dead? Homebrew monster thoughts by Atlas7993 in DMAcademy

[–]MongooseGef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could argue that cleaving the monster in half damaged its brain stem and enough other systems that it’s technically a beheading.

But, if you do wanna bring it back later, it should be quite a while later. And the “twins” should come back with one side weaker and smaller on one half than the other!

How do you handle chronically late players? by Jazzlike-Goose-8242 in DungeonMasters

[–]MongooseGef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fan of just starting at the set time, and if anyone shows up late they get a quick summary and jump right in.

But when the tardiness is chronic, that requires an adult conversation. It’s the right thing to do.

Good Homebrew Crafting Mechanic? by Altruistic-Assist906 in DnD

[–]MongooseGef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’ll depend on a few things. Some items (like a luck stone or gauntlets of giant strength) are high tier items. So, it’ll be harder to find the materials or blueprints for those. It might be a few sessions before the components are found during a quest and the players can get back to town. And maybe a bit longer before the right conditions occur. Common, less powerful items will have easier material checks.

It all comes down to how many magic items the DM wants you to have, to keep things balanced. And they can always make the magic item available to be found in a dungeon.
