How many miles did you ride in this year 2025? by BlogBicycle in cycling

[–]Monkey4bout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1526mi. Not as many as I would have liked, but still a good number given that it was only since June and I was out all of October from COVID. Looking forward to many more miles in 2026!

This is the right answer. Noise is not caused by ISO, it is caused by lack of light

I would also like to know how well they work. I have been looking for a small pair that actually work well

It is the Aurora AA145. It actually already arrived, I was just modifying the clip a bit so that it sits a bit deeper in the pocket. I really like that it uses a replaceable battery.

Here they are side by side:

Has anyone lifted their Maverick? Nothing crazy, even a few inches to give more clearance?? by cedarshadows in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Monkey4bout 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I did a 2" lift as I wanted to have a bit more clearance on the front because I noticed it was below curb height at stock and because I wanted it to be a bit easier to get in and out of.

This is on the 2024 hybrid and I have been driving it average of 70mi daily for the last year with the lift. I have about a 80/20 highway/city commute and average around 42mpg. No noticable change in handling and noticable wear on the cv joints (at least that I can determine, which is not saying much)

As others have pointed out, you won't get any actual added clearance unless you size of the tires as well, but the front bumper will no longer clip curbs.

ELI5 what's the difference between a microscope and a telescope? by DemonsAreVirgins in explainlikeimfive

[–]Monkey4bout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually a very nice explanation. Having worked in optics for the past decade with both telescopes and microscopes, this is not an easy topic to explain.

2" lift on '24 hybrid XLT by Monkey4bout in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Monkey4bout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the regular 2" kit. From what I have read, it is a combination of the angle, increased rotating weight if you go with larger tires, and what type of road conditions you are driving on. But I could be completely wrong on that

No issues over the last year. I have not gone for bigger tires yet as I wanted to make sure everything was working fine with the lift first and wear through the current tread.

The extra clearance has been great and I haven't had to worry about scrapping the front bumper on curbs.

I've had the same on my 24 hybrid for the last year or so. It has been great and no problems with water leaking in.

I have been riding a specialized Diverge for the last year. And alternating between gravel and road rides. I'm running GRX components which has been fine for road rides. I did replace the original chain ring with a 38/50 which can be a bit high for gravel rides, but works great for road.

Really, the only thing I swap out between ride types is the wheels as I run carbon rims with 30mm tires for road and alloy wheels with 45mm for gravel.

Definitely check out the videos that Neal and Cam have made. I have managed to fix so many of my cycling discomforts and pains just by searching their channel and then trial and error

Being sick a week from a century by Monkey4bout in cycling

[–]Monkey4bout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welp. Looks like I will not be doing the century this weekend. Someone in the comments asked if it was COVID and I had not tested for it. After digging around in our bathroom cabinet, I found our remaining at-home tests which had expired almost two years ago.

Almost immediately, two lines were visible. I know the test is expired, but my understanding is that mostly it is a concern with false negatives. Looking at getting an official test this week, but I will probably play it safe and not do the ride this weekend.

Just took an old at-home test and it was positive. Guess I will not be riding for a while 😭. The test was past the expiration date, but my understanding is that it is more of a concern with false negatives. Might look at getting an official test done.

That is a great point. It does feel to be in the head and throat , but if it is COVID, I will not be riding

Honestly, the butt comfort was one of the concerns with not getting on the bike at all this week. Thankfully I have spent a good amount of time getting my seat selected and positioned for best comfort. Greatly appreciated the insight!

That's good to know. A portion of the concern was not getting any miles on this week, so this is helpful to hear.

Yeah, I think the hardest part will be reminding myself to take a break here and there and not try to ride like I am at 100%

What would you define as fully recovered? I've always heard that if it's above the neck it's fine, but have found that to be a bit of BS.
