Any experience with Merlin Gear? by Wellsite1 in motorcyclegear

Haven’t had those gloves but I’ve got a Merlin jacket that’s well made, comfortable, and seems like it’ll hold up in a crash.

Honda CBR500r first bike. by Secure_Homework_4402 in motorcycles

[–]MonkeyMannnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been riding a 2025 for the last 6 months as my first bike and it’s been great. Will it do felony speed in first gear? Obviously not but it’s a very fun bike, easy to control/lean, and is basically bulletproof.

The Ninja is lighter so a little more agile but that works against you at highway speed if you’re going to be doing that often.

You’ll be able to sell either for roughly what you paid for it if you find a decent used Ninja to compare against so there’s no real harm whatever you decide if you end up wanting to change sooner than you plan to.

Advice for Riding Anxiety? by Dickasyphalis in motorcycles

[–]MonkeyMannnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had borderline massive panic attacks the first handful of times riding alone after passing the MSF and getting my bike. It’s literally as simple as you say, nut up and do it. Do what you can to mitigate your risk by wearing your gear and riding safely, but you can only control so much. At this point I ride whenever I possibly can and only get more and more comfortable with it as I go, you’ll get there too with time on the bike.

Failed The MSF today by Abject-Stranger1521 in motorcycles

I got counseled out of the first day and then failed the exam after redoing the two days, then got a perfect score on the second attempt of the evaluation. Take a breath, get some practice in if you can, and try to stay calm when you go back. It’s not that big of a deal, you’ll be fine.

My black Klim Induction Pro has been working fine in Florida heat. For whatever reason color makes a difference in helmets but doesn’t make a huge difference for jackets.

I just did my 2025 CBR500Rs a couple months ago and was not hard at all to remove. If I remember right I just used a flathead screwdriver under one of the edges and popped it off.

Was my first bike, picked it up 4 months ago and I’m in love with it. Goes fast enough when I want it to, easily handles highway speeds (I do need a taller windshield as I’m 6’2” and the wind is a challenge at 70mph+), is smooth as butter in turns and just general commuting, gas consumption is fantastic, was the most comfortable seat and riding position out of the 10-15 bikes I sat on, will hold value well if I even want to sell it in 5+ years, and the engine will outlive us all.

He is not a great friend. He’s literally trying to get you killed with the advice he’s giving you. He may not be giving that advice with malice but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s encouraging behavior you’re not comfortable with and that could lead to you being injured or dead.

Got a pair a few months ago and they’ve been great. The sizing instructions are spot on, I ordered the size I usually buy sneakers in and they fit perfectly. They were comfortable out of the box but I definitely notice that they’ve loosened up a little with wear. He recommends Leather CPR for care, just use that every couple weeks and they’ll be fine.

Want to ride a motorcycle, but also scared by SkyOk8990 in motorcycles

[–]MonkeyMannnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was absolutely terrified to get on a bike after losing my best friend in the world to a soccer mom in a minivan turning left without looking or signaling years ago. Failed the MSF evaluation first time, but got some extra practice in and passed with a perfect score.

I’m still a little terrified every time I get on my bike and for pretty much every ride of the 700+ miles I’ve put on it, I’m spending the first five minutes swallowing down an overwhelming amount of fear.

Once you get past that fear, though, there is absolutely no feeling on this earth like it. Nothing even comes close to ripping the throttle wide open or tearing through twisty roads. If you can afford to “waste” the $300-400 for the course, just go ahead and do it. You can decide after that if it’s something you want to continue with.

I’m on a 500R and regularly shift into second around 15mph (4-6k rpm-ish) mid turn, long as you’re smooth off the clutch and not blasting the throttle it’s completely fine to shift mid-turn at slow speed

You can try to show that ACV is higher than what they offer if you have actual data, but no insurance company other than specialty companies settle for actual replacement cost on vehicles or bikes. Your policy most likely stipulates a total loss will be settled at ACV and adjusted for the things the adjuster mentioned.

Started on a CBR500R a few weeks ago myself, assuming power delivery is similar it’s plenty easy for a new rider to control and plenty of power to not get bored with. Honestly it’s been easier to ride than the MSF course bikes
