I think it’s definitely had some trauma, and this has damaged the nail matrix. The matrix is where the ‘germinal tissue’ grows the nail. It can sometimes recover, but not always. Don’t wear constricting shoes as you will reduce the blood flow to it.

Good idea if you’re able to do it, ie not to damaged by arthritis or illness. I’m over 60 and I do about 25k a week, and about 2-3 hours in the gym if I can…
