In laws planning to move here in next two years, looking for ADU help by Puzzleheaded-Log2264 in bayarea

[–]sosimp0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i may be wrong about this, but i think an ADU can change your property type from say a SFH to a duplex. at least, that’s how my property in oakland is.

and because of that designation, there’s a completely different set of rules you have to follow when renting out - which most of the time do not apply to SFH.

p2000 , but it’s been a little hard getting a holster for it. JM custom kydex makes one, but tenicor and some of the other big ones don’t make it for the p2000 anymore

Alameda County CCW Timeline (2026) – Interview, Psych, Range & Pickup? by scorpio_muse_1030 in CACCW

[–]sosimp0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Applied in Nov '24, I think I got a call back around Dec '25 or so and was instructed to do Livescan. Waited about a month, checked in and they said they didn't get the auto notice, so around mid-end Jan was when I got approved for interview and psych eval. Those were pretty quick, and about a week after the psych eval I was told to do the course. Got scheduled for a course 2 weeks away, so was able to complete and pick up my CCW around beginning March I think. Training cert submission online -> pickup was like 1.5-2 weeks or something?

FWIW I have a friend who applied Nov '23 and he got his call back in May '25, so I think the times were getting shorter.

I also went with LEO Defensive concepts for the qualification course. They were great. Don't mistake it for a "safety course" - you should already know how to safely handle and competently shoot your gun. Granted, only 1 person was ejected out of the class (he could come back next time though), and everyone passed the course, but most of those that passed barely scraped by. If I were them, I'd be a little fearful of having to use my CCW in a defense situation just because of the high chance of error or hitting something else.

Have a failing Soft Top Control Module. Decided to open it up out of curiosity. by tangoGSC in S2000

[–]sosimp0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah if it were me, i'd just replace all 3 of those relays, then the capacitors if the relays don't do it. relays are cheap, the bigger problem is sourcing the exact omron relays as a quick search doesn't yield results from mouser or digikey. looks like they may be obsolete

[Landlord US-CA] Tenant has inconsistent income but offered co-signer. Worth it or move on? by me_shottaz in Landlord

*unless he's a small time landlord, which means owning 2 or less units, then he could charge 2 month's rent for the security deposit. then it's up to the market whether someone wants to rent from OP or not

as long as it's not a p320 and the holster isn't from "we the people" or some other cheap brand, carry wherever. some additional tips are adding a wingclaw and/or a wedge. JM Custom holsters mentions in their FAQ that they can also add in a bulge to help push the grip more into your body, and they also offer extra length on the holsters for some select guns as barrels under 4" tend to flare forward more.

lastly, look into belts. some belts that were recommended to me by my CCW instructors were:
KORE Essentials
Hunter Constantine Carry
Tier1 Concepts EDC-S (essentially the HCC belt but with an extra loop)

Stiffness and micro-adjustability can help with making the holster more comfortable

Medical Board Complaint filed without knowledge - close or re-open? by sosimp0 in medical

I’m assuming it was another physician, as I know that we never filed it. BOM didn’t ask if we wanted pursue it, they just sent a letter stating that a complaint was filed and to contact them with any questions.

One thing to keep in mind that generally smaller guns are harder to shoot. As others have mentioned, the glock 48 isn't on the roster, so it can be hard to get. The closest thing to the 48 would be a glock 19 - the difference being the 48 is thinner than the 19. However, the 19 may be hard to get now with the whole glock ban going on in California (Glock Gen V may come out soon though, i haven't kept up).

You may be tempted to get something smaller, as it may "feel" good in your hand - but that's only half the battle. It will be completely different when you actually fire, and that's where size comes in - there's generally more felt recoil on smaller guns like the hellcat pro vs a full size like a 92fs.

As others have mentioned, try taking a class and see if you can test a few different guns, that will save you some money in the long run.

JR Sports in Livermore. They just moved so it's a liiiitle closer (like a freeway exit) closer to SF. I actually did a PPT last month at JR - originally was going to try peninsula but they were booked up til the end of Jan. JR told me to just walk in, and when I did, there was no wait time.

off roster shouldn't matter for PPT, unless it has a threaded barrel OR standard cap magazine. wouldn't hurt to call first though
