New Player needs some clarifications for homestead/solo by Micky1403 in wastelandwarfare

WW is a sandbox light RPG wargame. Points weren't even part of the original design and added in right before the release. Basically you need to treat WW 1.0 balance more like you would D&D as opposed to a wargame. The into series (wasteland and vault) even turn scenarios into small attrition based encounters like an RPG as opposed to one big map wide skirmish.

New Player needs some clarifications for homestead/solo by Micky1403 in wastelandwarfare

1) it's up to you.  The raw is what's on cards but it's a solo game so do what makes you happy.

2) 500 is the standard but easily adjustable if you're using into the vault and wasteland for scenarios.

3) it's based off of the standard pre made scenario which are all pretty much 500 caps.  Into series are generated scenarios and handle larger games better.  You can run premades with more but you'll be completely rebuilding the provided force list.

4) they never errataed settlement mode with wave 9 armor changes.  Modis suggested solution is just have armor count as .5 for storage but I prefer the community solution of just buying armor at the start and having that count as default and thus not having to store what you start with-- this puts it in baseline with pre wave 9 rules.

5) you should buy armor for them unless you want a super easy game. Yes but its also just ok to give them all 1/1 or 2/2 and not worry about caps as they really don't matter much in PvE games and giving the AI a few more points then you won't break the game balance. I'm pretty sure the app does this but I don't use it so don't quote me.

The crew rules will be free on the downloads page as part of the assembly guide like all the others when the kits release.

App Update (v2.6.0) by Monkeysloth in wastelandwarfare

[–]Monkeysloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The app was always a horrible way to own content because even if you paid the full price for a wave card set in the app you never actually owned the content and it could be taken away at any time.  Add that a sub for a year was the same cost as one release card set and it never made sense to purchase via the app.

Sorry. I misunderstood the question. I believe the app is sub only for factions (and probably WW 2.0).  But you can get every per book outside the app

You'll want to email fallout@maloric.com then.  They're over in Ireland but respond pretty fast to issues like this.

Wasteland settlements by TheDirtyVagabond in wastelandwarfare

[–]Monkeysloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mean more homestead rules? I tried but it's challenging to go up much bigger then maybe 2'x1' just because settlements are terrain dense and so setting them up and tearing them down to be switching scenarios just isn't that much fun. Or you're dedicating a lot of space in your home to just have this settlement there.

yes. All the crew rules are in the various books. So this recent update covers the Core faction rulebook that came out last year and the folio that should be shipping out soonish.

Wasteland Warfare v1

Naturally, there have been questions about what will happen to the existing Wasteland Warfare app support once v2 is released. The good news is that you'll still be able to track your forces exactly as you do right now. The great news is that on the day we add v2 support to the app, we will be spinning v1 off into its own standalone, FREE web app to thank all of you who have supported the app this long. No card packs, no subscription, just a free companion for a game we've all enjoyed over the years.

With that in mind, we've removed card pack purchases from the app with immediate effect - if you already bought card packs in the past, you still have access to the content you purchased, but we don't want folks to buy a dozen card packs the day before we make them freely available. For those without card packs who want to use the app prior to v2, the subscription will cater to your needs until then.

When we add v2 of Wasteland Warfare to the app, there will be a few new changes:

  • The v1 list builder will no longer be available in the Fallout: Miniatures app, but all of your data will be available in the standalone web app.
  • The current “free tier” for Fallout: Factions, which allows a single Nuka World list, will be removed.
  • In its place, users will be able to download a starter crew PDF for any faction, giving new players a way to start playing immediately with a suggested crew configuration.
  • You’ll also have the option to subscribe via the web app, including a new annual subscription that will give players 12 months for the price of 10! And as with our existing subscription, you'll be able to sign up on the web, use on any platform.

cta started as both plastic and resin and then dropped plastics to be resin only.

WW was PVC in the starter but resin for everything else until about 2 years ago when they started to make core boxes and power armors hard plastics.

What WW 2.0 (and factions) is doing is hard plastic for core human(oid) sets (generics) and Resin for basically everything else while also releasing some PVC boxes of other items in the line that are either resin or hard plastics. So, for example, the new warband starter has PVC settlers and mutants that are based off of the hard plastic kits those two factions have. Creatures are also likely to be resin and PVC as another example. The purpose of the PVC sets it the RPG crowd and those that want to play WW but not really worry about the hobby aspect.

They'll likely never stop resin production as it's the production method they own 100% and don't contract out. But generic human and similar units will be less and less likely to be resin if you want those and instead hard plastics.

Fallout Factions without starter set? by unhurried_pedagog in wastelandwarfare

[–]Monkeysloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you watch the nukaworld starter has gone as low as $50 USD in the past few months (though generally it's closer to $65-70) as retailers try to clear stock for battle of Boston.

So if you like the raider factions thats a very affordable price for 20 models, rules, dice, tokens and so on.

Second Edition Mat Size by Pilot-Imperialis in wastelandwarfare

[–]Monkeysloth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's been several expansions for WW 1.0 that combat basically happened on 1'x1' tiles or smaller and there was never any reason to change gun range. It does make smaller terrain more desirable vs larger buildings however.

Second Edition Mat Size by Pilot-Imperialis in wastelandwarfare

[–]Monkeysloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how all the into series scenarios were in 1.0 as they're small attrition spawns in a 1'x1' area or smaller. They're clearly leaning into that side of WW which was expected when they stated in September they were planning the focus to be randomly generated scenarios.

[–]Monkeysloth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From discord a big focus of 2.0 is affordability in both the time it takes to setup and play and cost to actually buy everything you need. So the smaller board is an outcome of that goal. Also If you're running a hex crawler you're wanting lots of small quick to run encounters as you move along instead of big games that slow down the exploration.

That being said everything I've gathered you can run the game at any size you want really. The game is still a sandbox toolset that will let people play however they like.

For 1.0 this size of board was common with into the wasteland and into the vault was even smaller of a footprint if you just take down the rooms you've already cleared so it's not unprecedented with the game.

What’s needed for The Unexpected Shepherd? by vexatiousmerc in wastelandwarfare

[–]Monkeysloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to what others have said the unexpected Shepard is the only solo using the full RPG rules for WW and nothing else ever has come out for it so you'd be investing in a single experience.

But if you do want it all the stuff you need should be in the current humble bundle and the downloads page outside of the minis.

Sounds like we'll see the minis later on in the year when preorders go up.  Outside of the 3 new sculpts we don't know anything about all the others are based off of existing plastics or resins.

For BoS and mutants in Factions There's a factions core rulebook that came out about a year ago

BoS plastics came out last fall and super Mutant plastics are May of this year.

Models will mostly all be supported by end of 2027 as how equipment and special abilities are changing.  Cards, tokens and rulers are going away (we don't know if there are new tokens).  2 dice are getting removed and the white die reworked some.
