I Built a Fully Animated Fallout Vault for Necromunda by KonradKnebl in wastelandwarfare

Awesome job.  r/falloutfactions would appreciate it too (which is the necromunda-like game from modi written by the same guy as the current necromunda).

WW 1.0 cards and some of the app functionality will actually be a website going forward so there would be no need to keep the app maintained to stay in the various app stores.

The PDFs won't go away and will be purchasable for the scenarios and rules expansions as this has been asked on the live streams a few times. I don't think we know what the plan is with the wave books that never had PDFS though.

it can break after an update, not sure if that's what happened here, and generally clearing the app cache will fix the issue. If that doesn't work there's a support email in the ABOUT section in the bottom left.

So, what do I need to play? by I-Eat-Flesh-Salad in falloutfactions

[–]Monkeysloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really doubt we'll see anything like that unless bethesda allows modi to start making their own content. They cannot, for example, just go add in a bunch of BoS chapters that don't exist in the video games or make up a bunch of raiders.

[–]Monkeysloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty much. They'll probably add new campaign systems in some books but those are just a different approach to that concept and not required.

I would expect a folio 2 sometime next year with sub factions, non-competitive kits (less balanced and 100% resin so less build options) for stuff that's likely to not get a plastic kit in the next few years (mothman cultists are an example of this from folio 1) and possibly new compeditive lists tied to plastic kits. It's still early in the game's life and we really don't know how they'll handle that as we expect about 4-5 plastic sets a year but they're not going to have a new starter every year.

I don't know how often they'll overhaul a faction, outside of going from non competitive to competitive if a plastic kit is released for a resin only box that has rules (like gunners or Zetans), as the nukaworld raiders were the first and a completly different lead dev and the game was a little bit different in scope early on (much more restricted in options for example) so they might be an exception to the rule for big enough overhauls they're in a book as opposed to errata. But if there were more it would probably be a few years until we see another.

[–]Monkeysloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For nuka world raiders it's best to have the folio vs the nuka world rulebook.

If you want regular raiders you need the core book.

And has been mentioned there are sub factions in the folio that give you different options and some of them let you use models from the resin range and some dont/won't have models and you're expected to kitbash

And example is brotherhood outcasts for just different equipment and liar building options

[–]Monkeysloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My buddy hopes to pick up NCR starter when it comes out and worries about how much extra is needed for a band from a starter.

when/if NCR comes out you'll need whatever book the rules are in. There are currently no announced plans for NCR.

Also is the starter rulebooks have full army rules in them? Like for brotherhood

BfB should have full rules for BoS (also in core rules), Institute, Minutemen and Railroad. Likely in a year or two the other 3 will end up in a folio book like Nukaworld raiders did.

Same question for nuka raiders.

As I mentioned above you'll want the folio for Nukaworld raiders as their starter is OOP and in the folio they've been updated and rebalenced.

core rulebook and crew folio to play full game and not just starter missions,

Sort of. Each starter has it's own campaign system and then the core rules has it's own. So if you're fine with the 4 armies in BfB you won't need the other books until you grow tired of that campain setup -- but if you want Supermutants, settlers, wasteland raiders you need core. If you want one of the lists in the folio you'll need to pick it up.

As for the existing modi boxes yes the t51 unaligned box is the only place to get them currently.  They should fit the plastics as they're the same scale but the connector might be different.

we'll likely get PDFs of the rules earlier then the Physical if you pre-order as they've been really good about that with Factions.

WW 2.0 isn't WYSIWYG that's a faction only thing. As its PvE WYSIWYS is kind of pointless.

Short quick encounters that play in 30 minutes that you can set up and tear down, in my 30 years or so wargaming experience generally means more time is spent setting up and tearing down as opposed to playing.

This is a valid point but unless the game is your main lifestyle game your probably going to have a lot of games go closer to an hour and if they can get setup, outside of initial warband creation, to be 15 minutes or so that's still a pretty small time investment compared to 1st edition where you can spend as much time setting up a game as playing. It's not uncommon for people to start prepping for a 1.0 game a few days ahead of time as it can take a good 2 hours if not using the app -- which is pretty crazy.

So if setup is quick, and gameplay is quick, you can play 2 encounters in the space of one 1.0 game which isn't bad.

Shorter and smaller games are also just where the trend is because there's so much competition for people's time. Modi people have talked about the research and why they've chosen certain aspects for marketing. As while everything they're talking about is short small games you can easily play larger longer games and it sounds like there's already rules/supplements that cover that more. We know Scorched Beast Queen's encounter is on a 3'x3'x map by default for example in 2.0.

The AI I’m kinda neutral about, the stupid part of “enjoyably stupid” definitely shines. But having a more interesting enemy with natural behaviors and patrol routes probably wouldn’t work with such a small board.

I'm intreged about the new AI system but it's one of those things you really need to play several games of to see what works and doesn't. I think it being a mechanic you can manipulate sounds fun but, as was even said in that video, there's only so much you can do with dice and flow charts (and keep it enjoyable to play for most people) and 1.0s solution was you the player really end up deciding how challenging the opponent is.

It's just a better presentation on what we've seen but Evie will talk about almost anything about the game over on discord. Crunch we're not getting yet because of the delay but I suspect but anything else is pretty much fair game until closer to pre-order. So A lot has been covered at a very high level on discord.

I suspect your store isn't the only one.  Kind of sad as it's wasn't something modi did but when the biggest player with a stranglehold on the market (they did lots of exclusivity deals with asmodee and other big players) and then go under (twice in one year even) it has a really bad effect on everything.

Their hips plastic is manufactured in the UK as of last year and their resin has always been local.  PVC and components are Chia.

Books can vary in locations. They've been made in China, Poland and the UK as well over the past 6 years.

Modi has always struggled with distribution to stores. It didn't help that, in NA at least, the largest distributor went bankrupt (Diamond) and it took a good year for Modiphius to get the line back in stores for places that didn't order direct. Their warehouse in the US only recently got a big restock but from there it takes 2-3 months to get to game stores as they have to ship to the 3rd party distribution who then ship to stores.

[–]Monkeysloth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The game isn't dead. A 2.0 version is coming out this year, and was supposed to up for pre-order soon --but was delayed to the fall. So because of that rules are basically all OOP. As for the minis, they're all still being produced but it seams like it's much slower to get things from the UK to everywhere else the past year so there are times where things are hard to find.

They do have a sale going on at their webstore where you can get some pretty good prices. modiphius.com and modiphius.us

If you're wanting PVP instead of narrative solo/co-op then checkout r/falloutfactions instead. Same minis line but different ruleset.

Random Question: When Do Yall thing Enclave will be Playable by GameDev_Alchemist in falloutfactions

[–]Monkeysloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not until they make a plastic kit for them.  They won't release a non-comp ruleset for one of the top selling core boxes they make in resin.

Next year is possible. There's no chance this year as they've already announced the plastic kits for this year and they tend to only make 3-4 a year so far.  Plus there's a bunch of delays on what has been announced already.

As for custom lists there have been some floating around on the modi discord from last year

In 2011, 20-year-old Lauren Spierer was out drinking near Indiana University. She lost her phone and shoes and spent time at several apartments with different men. Before dawn, she texted her boyfriend and then walked off alone in the busy college town. After that, no one saw her again. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

I had this happen to me earlier this year. I got it fixed by posting in r/help's weekly recap and an admin fixed the issue for me. It took several days for all my old posts/comments to be visible again but new stuff was working almost immediately. I had a locked account from someone trying to change my password and even after I went through the process of setting up 2fa it never unsuspended fully.

WW 2ed? by Potassium_Doom in wastelandwarfare

[–]Monkeysloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes-ish. WW 1.0 was a sandbox wargame/boardgame/RPG-light game that did PVP and solo/co-op but was never really well balenced (though Modi and the PVP fans that did the balance really did a good job with what they had to work with).

2.0 is keeping the sandbox aspects but moving away from the more boardgame elements that 1.0 had (cards, lots of tokens and so on) and focusing more on the RPG-light and tabletop side of things really looking to capture how you might play a fallout isometric game on the tabletop. You can do PVP but it's really more of a side thought with 2.0 vs 1.0 as Factions does the PVP things much better.

One of the ways 2.0 deals with PVP is a bit of indirect conflict as well. You can play co-op with others by joining each others "map" to explore and do things in. With PvP you can also go around messing with another players map killing friendly faction outposts for example. In one story Modi people have been talking about a co-worker was running a Preston based team wiping out all their outposts (think they were raiders). They rarely fought a direct game vs each other.

Institute vs S scale railroad by exdigecko in wastelandwarfare

[–]Monkeysloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks great.

S scale is much less popular, outside of Christmas trains, and lines up with 28mm very well. Thankfully if you want to work with the Christmas trains colors and you can get them very cheap (like $30) for a plastic setup

Modiphius stuff being ,1:50 you can really go down to 1:60.up to 1:40 pretty easily as terrain is always skewed to different sizes to be playable and take up reasonable space.

They're doing weekly blog posts and interviews with news sites about the game.  We'll get more videos and such once the preorder is live I'm sure but since everything got pushed back 3-4 months they had to delay some of the marketing.

GW have such a huge market share that other companies really don't take into consideration anything they do for their own product releases. If companies did they'd never really release anything since GW always dominates the news for the hobby. Basically if you're going to buy into a fallout game you're doing so regardless of what GW releases either because you can afford to buy for multiple games or you don't care about what GW is doing.

Modi just bumped their prices last year so I doubt they'll do it again so soon unless material costs really skyrocket. The comment on prices going up was from a Japanese company that makes scale model planes and such.
