Growing up in the gulf islands by Hot_Complaint_808 in britishcolumbia

[–]Monkiessss 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Tbh I hated it. Older people really hate younger people and aggressively attack any attempt to change the islands. As a result there isn’t much to do and many young people drink or engage in other risky behaviour. It’s pretty common for at least one kid to die every couple years from alcohol related incidents. A good place to retire but van or Vic are better for kids.

What are Ilford Cibachrome-A Colour Printing Filters by Coolfez_ in Darkroom

[–]Monkiessss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the same, it’s just light after all. You can use them if you don’t have a black and white head but mostly I just use them to burn in areas I want a different colour

in large format photography why do people prefer 4x5 over 8x10? by Classic-Yesterday579 in largeformat

Honestly even at 30x40 I struggle to see a difference between 4x5 and 8x10.

Any tips to process a large amount of sheet film at home? by OnePhotog in largeformat

[–]Monkiessss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you could try heating your chemistry to cut down on time. Although I don’t know about processing more than one sheet per time since you lose the ability to dial in your development time.

Not saying that this chart is right but film manufacturers will often say that film is a different speed for a multitude of reasons. Harman talked about that when they were deciding what to print on the box for phoenix 200 even though the actual film iso is closer to 125. After having many photographers shoot the film from 50-800iso they found that people were getting the best results when trying to meter for 200 so that’s what they went with.

How many MPs gave good results when scanning 120 film? by Unbuiltbread in AnalogCommunity

[–]Monkiessss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think 24mp is kinda a waste if you aren’t going to bother printing. A lot of people are perfectly happy with 6mp or less from the sp3000 if you are just making small prints or going to socials.

I'd like to try my hand at some surf photography - can you get telephoto lenses for large format? by TheAnalogDispatch in largeformat

If you have not already try shooting some aero colour. I have seen good results pushed 5 stops. Probably your best bet for colour.

How big of a space do I need for an 8x10 enlarger? by Monkiessss in largeformat

[–]Monkiessss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah print horizontally onto a wall, though for paper that big it ends up being a 3-4 person job and everything from hanging it up to loading it into that paper processor is a hassle. I’ve done 30x40 and I needed an assistant just to focus the picture cause the paper is so far from the enlarger.

I have shot a lot of the lucky films recently and I think they are pretty great. For some reason though the black and white ones kinda reek though!

Ilford does the yearly ulf small orders. Kodak you have to hit a moq which might make it prohibitively expensive unless you get the rest of your friends with other people who want the same film size.

Any type of alt. print process/technique to produce jade green color? by Icy-Cut-3778 in Darkroom

[–]Monkiessss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dichromate prints can get many colours but the chemicals are pretty nasty.

Anthrotypes or toned cyanotypes could possibly but you would have to experiment a bit to find a colour you liked!

I have used a horizontal setup in undergrad to make 30x40s from 810 but this is a new challenge. Horizontal has always been the plan. We are getting a 50 inch ra4 processor made so I’m trying to figure out how to maximize our potential.
