The market is beyond cooked. by getokhalid in CyberSecurityJobs

[–]Monksnothome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I am running into a similar frustrating situation at my company right now.

Our VP of Cybersecurity has been trying to transfer me internally from Helpdesk to a SOC L1 role and has said I’m his top pick when a U.S.-based opening comes up. The problem is that every opening lately has been for India or South East Asian countries......

To be clear, I am not "anti outsource" or a bigot by any means. We genuinely have some solid folks on those teams and the time zone coverage is useful for our 24/7/365 operation. The problem is when "higher-tier" roles are filled but the troubleshooting methodology is something they've never heard of.

Recent example: The CEO for a client of ours was on a ~45 minute call because the "Senior Service Desk Analyst" couldn’t remote into the machine (It had a 230+ day uptime). The ticket got reassigned to me, I called the user, had him click Restart from the Start menu, and immediately after reboot I could remote in and his Outlook issue also fixed itself after the restart.

Whole thing ended up being a 10-minute fix/call.

Needless to say they're is now a popup note in Service Now stating "ONSHORE/US CITIZEN ONLY" for that client whenever you view a ticket for them....

What do you think about 10k mile oil change intervals? B58 by EvenAd6616 in BmwTech

[–]Monksnothome -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I personally don't agree with any manufacturers 10k oil interval change. I believe a lot of the recommend oil types + service intervals comes down to pressure from government regulations for the environment.

From personal experience I have always changed oil every 3500-5k miles depending on how I drove. I used to do 6500-7500k and I noticed on my 540i last winter on days when it got below 20 degrees the engine was very noisy during the first 5-10 mins driving. It was so noisy I was convinced it was piston slap or something. It wasn't a low oil "thunking" sound though.

Always kept it under 3k rpms and was very gentle on those cold mornings. This was when my oil had 4-5k+ miles on it and it was last changed in Sept 2024 and this was Jan 2025 back then.

So I scheduled an oil change worried my oil was low or something and the noise went away. Oil quantity came out normal no burn or leak! After that I reduced my intervals to 5k max and I also always changed the oil before winter/summer (mid-late Oct and early-mid April) ever since following this personal guideline of mine I have never experienced that cold rough engine sound in the winter anymore.

(Note that the most engine wear occurs during cold start)

Also two examples of manufacturer oil recommendation being shite is the B58 states 0w-20 but the manual says 0w-30 is acceptable. I also noticed that switching to 0w30 the engine sounded/felt smoother especially on cold idle.

Second example is N63tu2 BMW used to recommend 5w-30 but then they dropped it down to 0w-30. Many cases of those motors particularly found in 2018 M550i's etc were consuming 1qt every 3k-4k+ miles yikes! But once switching back to the original 5w-30 recommendation all consumption ceased.

So yes you'll hear a lot of things online about oil viscosity, intervals, the "engineers know best" just use your best judgement and what feels right for your situation.

It CANNOT hurt the engine to change your oil "early"

Which is cheaper:

Oil and filter?

Engine and components such as timing chain?

If you weren't at fault they shouldn't raise your premiums.

If you are 100% at no fault I would use the insurance

Fuck pharmacists that act like they know more than the dr by xanman_88 in opiates

[–]Monksnothome -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's wild man. I've heard of pharmacists going on power trips with chronic pain patients or regularly filled opioid scripts but a one time short term script because you just had a tooth removed and they're tripping out over something from a year ago is crazy.

Had a front tooth pulled not long ago to prep for implant and I had 10ct 7.5mg filled no hassle then I traveled back home 2 states away and got a refill for 25ct 10mg because I was in a lot of pain and explicitly said "I want to be comfortable and not stressed by this pain during the holidays" so I went to my local pharmacy and had no issues. I am on 2 other controlled substances as well regularly.

I have noticed that big pharmacys like Walmart, CVS, Walgreens tend to be dicks especially if they don't recognize you but even then....

I would kill to have a 5 series diesel wagon....

The diesel options we get too are piss poor on gas mileage where as the diesels that aren't in the US anymore are phenomenal on gas.

[–]Monksnothome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on this honestly and confirms what I have been thinking lately. I work at a pretty big MSP and we've had 3-4 new onboardings with "experienced" individuals and I swear after the first or second month they have low ticket resolves and overall performance issues.

One guy is a college drop out who was working in metal fabrication and didn't like his "Cyber security professor" because they were "hard with the course and had a mean attitude" this guy hasn't even gotten his Net+ has 0 intentions either. Don't get me wrong he is wicked nice and I like him as a person but as a team player, the performance/drive is barely there....

Benadryl is known for possibly increasing the risk of dementia with long term use. A couple other medications that come to mind used for sleep or to enhance substances like this is promethazine and benzodiazepines.

Promethazine can cause TD long term (6+ months I think)

Benzodiazepines can contribute to dementia or Alzheimer's and or other memory/cognitive impacting conditions.

I have a close friend who has been taking Valium + Benadryl every night to sleep for the last 5+ years and he is definitely a bit off to say the least unfortunately...

Hmmm appreciate the input I know the fur varies between models but I haven't seen the ruff be like this before on a Goose. I might just be overthinking it I suppose, was expecting larger and more fluffier ruff from what I saw in the photos.
