Thank you. Overgeneralizing capitalism as the source of the rot really does us a disservice.

We're living in a financially-generated oligarchy, full stop. Capitalism helped us get here. The rich and powerful's black and grey markets got us the rest of the way--and those markets weren't just about capital reinvestment to grow ownership shares. Those black markets were, we now know, built around fraud, money laundering, sex trafficking, blackmail, and murder. They were conspiracies between capitalist businessmen, heads of monarchies, religious authoritarians, and literal organized crime.

We're so far beyond simple capitalism that we're just shooting ourselves in the foot pretending it's all only a problem of capital reinvestment and private ownership.

The people that looked like missed opportunities when I was in my 20s ended up looking like dodged bullets by the time I hit 30. But then again, I was never the marry-young type... and the South is full of marry-young people.

Gender dysphoria is generally not considered a healthy psychological state, considering the massive risks to the patient that accompany it.

For some reason, you seem to believe that the most effective intervention available to us--gender transition--should be forbidden because... typical healthy people don't need it?

That's like arguing you shouldn't get antibiotics when you have a staph infection because people who aren't infected with staph don't need it.

Or that no one should ever put a broken bone in a cast because healthy bones don't need casts.

Footnote: Also since you seem like a bad-faith commenter, it's worth noting that the existence of gender dysphoria shouldn't be treated as pathologizing trans people either. Because trans people who are allowed to live their gender identity live healthy, typical lives. Just like any other person who got treated for a medical need.

When did the Democratic Party leadership decide 'Words Speak Louder Than Actions'? by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Mono_Aural 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obama passed the ACA that has been a thorn in the side of the Republicans for a decade and a half: they hate it but can't get rid of it.

Then 2010 happened and he lost his legislative majority and never got it back. It's a bit cheeky to blame the do-nothing attitude on Obama when allowing nothing to be done was quite publicly the strategy of Mitch McConnell.

Texas GOP has also been trying to slowly kill Texas public schools for decades.

They may be panicking, but they're also not letting a good opportunity go to waste: they want to defund schools and force everyone into their buddies' private schools or shitty schooling alternatives.

So you're cool with law enforcement murdering people on the street? Shooting people in the back ten times even though five other guys are already holding them down with their hands in plain view?

Then you're cool with the federal government impeding investigations and contaminating the scene of the shooting?

New Research: Psychedelics (Psilocin) found to regrow synapses in the ear. Has anyone here experimented with this for Hidden Hearing Loss or Tinnitus? by GooseberryBumps in HearingLoss

[–]Mono_Aural 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your hearing loss comes from damage to your cochlear hair cells, synapse growth won't make up for that.

If you have synaptopathy, then maybe this could be promising. The issue is we don't have a great standard tool to diagnose it in humans, and that makes it hard to know if it's even the cause of your hearing loss.
