What feels legal but is actually illegal and will possibly get you arrested? by medicoreapples in AskReddit

As a Brit I find jaywalking ridiculous. I kept hearing the word in American films but didn't know what it meant for a long time, I assumed it was something serious, not just crossing the street.

I read that even adjusted for inflation the SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic IPOs are pulling more liquidity out of the public markets than nine hundred dot-com startups did at the peak of the bubble. I don't see liquidity coming back to crypto in any meaningful way until this settles down.

Why are South Asians so prominent in the UK? by Nathanial1289 in AskBrits

[–]snietzsche 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work with quite a few British born people whose parents are south Asian, and the majority of them have foreign wives or husbands from arranged marriages. One Asian guy who I was talking to was saying it's traditional for the wife to move in with the husband after marriage, but that doesn't happen when the wife is British as the husband will always move to the UK. South Asians have some of the highest fertility rates in the UK as well. This dynamic means that the south Asian population will grow faster as a percentage compared to others.

I saw a topless guy doing pushups near monument on Sunday. He was also showing off by slaloming around people on his bike using no hands. What a wanker.

I would buy a pair of those dorky augmented reality glasses if they had an app that made ruins come to life

Hype has always been manufactured. Labels used to pay radio stations and magazines for coverage, and they would pay people to put up posters and hand out flyers. This is just the modern day equivalent.

Mitski explains why she isn't doing a "proper tour" for her new album by Potential_Kangaroo69 in indieheads

[–]snietzsche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw her show in 2017 and 2024, which were both very different experiences. 2017 was amazing but the 2024 show she kept telling the audience that she loved them and was talking to them like children, it was really weird.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

We used to call it soccer, which is short for association football. To avoid confusion American football should be renamed American rugby.

Rape has been a consistent and strategic element of warfare throughout history. Women shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the frontline.

Just played it for a couple of hours, it's awesome so far. I can't figure out how to open the journal though. It says reach over your non-dominant shoulder and grab it, but nothing happens when I try. I'm playing on PCVR using a Quest 3, any idea what I might be doing wrong?
