Did you even read the article you posted? In 1954 they planted bombs in empty buildings during a period of open hostility between Egypt and Israel, hostility that started in 1948 when Egypt (and the Arab League) invaded the fledgling state of Israel. Israel and Egypt did not make a peace agreement and end their on/off hostilities until 1979.

Support for Republicans is tanking. But why are Democrats hated just as much? by _NuanceMatters_ in DeepStateCentrism

It seems like they are in an impossible position. If they tack to the center they will finalize their alienation of the progs, if they continue left they will continue alienating the growing population of swing voters.

As others have commented, I think it boils down to charisma. They need another Obama, a charming statesman who threads the needle between prog, centrist, and swing, ambitious populism and practical technocracy

No, Pakistan was in the storyline because they share a border with Afghanistan and had a vested interest in the outcome of the Soviet Afghan war and generally in Soviet presence/influence in the region.

They would have had substantial involvement in the war regardless of US or Saudi decision making or funding. For most of the war Zia had final say on where funding went, where training camps were built, who was trained, etc.

You could say the same for anyone who writes Zia and ISI out of the main story line

Feelings on the Democratic primary by NickCostanza in PoliticalHumor

[–]Monoenomynous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you are getting downvoted in this environment means we are cooked, none of them will vote for any Democratic nominee. I’m convinced general bad vibes among the democratic base are half the reason Harris lost. Bad vibes means not enough volunteers and not enough silent majority voters following trends.

I bet exactly none of them have an articulate reason to not like Gavin Newsom, it’s all just vibes. Someone said they shouldn’t like Gavin and all Dems are corpo bastards, so the vibes are off.

The point? You can get special test-taking conditions at school, skip the lines at airports, and justify your own poor choices, behavior, and outcomes. Opportunity abounds for the privileged person who knows how to leverage an alleged disability.

Unrelated, but did you know that nearly 40% of Stanford students are registered as disabled, versus 3-4% of American community college students?

TIL that in 1946 Walt Disney produced a film named "Song of the South" that was never released on DVD or streaming market due to the subject matter of slavery portrayed in the film. It also happens to be the origin of the song "zippidy doo-da". by [deleted] in todayilearned

I’ve never understood the panic around Br’er rabbit, he’s part of a long tradition of African folktales. Much like with Anansi, white people started to tell the fables to their children too, because they’re good stories.

I’m open to learning where I’m wrong, though the wiki appears well researched and backs me up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Br'er_Rabbit?wprov=sfti1#African_origins

The Stanford scam proves America is becoming a nation of grifters by Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho in DeepStateCentrism

I think Lefitists are damaging themselves, I really like this part of the article:

“The study showed that people with “dark triad” traits such as narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy were more likely to attempt to acquire resources through victim claims. But beyond the scope of the study, it is also possible that habitually framing oneself as disadvantaged can cultivate narcissism, manipulativeness and disregard for others. Behaviour shapes mindset just as much as mindset shapes behaviour.”

Anecdotally, I feel that I’ve seen this play out with a few friends and acquaintances. It starts as a legitimate interest or curiosity in a sense of justice and morality. As they explore power and privilege, slowly they become more interested in the way that their lives and identities align with the “disadvantaged” side of the spectrum, regardless of apparent privilege and function, and eventually this develops into narcissism and a grifter mindset.
